How's this for a new variant?
Anti-gunboat:

Rules: The only move allowed is "hold". The players have to negotiate amongst themselves until they reach agreement to either draw, or nominate one of their number as the winner.

Pause button missing
In the game "Touch My Wookie" all surviving players have a Pause vote. We actually want to un-pause but none of us have a Pause button now.

pause lost to bugs, please pause

I hope this gets fixed soon, all the pause-related bugs kinda make it hard to let the game flow

i am available to play a live game tomorrow, friday, between the hours of 1300 and 2100 GMT, which is 9-5 east coast US time. any one else? i would hope we could either continue it another day, or make it a 24 phase game and just revert to normal game play.

Everyone watch out for pauses.
HUGE BUG. when the last person issues their pause vote, it actually triggers an unpause and forces the game into "Due Now" even if hours are left.

New Diplomacy 5: Allies vs Central Powers mid-game comments....
Please do not post unless you are a part of the game....

Rules List: (Final Version)

Rule #1: You may not move into an ally's supply center without permission of said ally.

Rule #2: England and France may not attack Holland, Belgium, and/or Denmark until Germany gains control of said nations after Autumn 1901.

Rule #3: Neither France nor Germany may move into Burgandy in 1901.

Rule #4: Russia may not move into or contest Sweden from Germany in 1901.

Rule #5: Turkey may not move into Armenia in 1901.

Rule #6: Russia may not move into Black Sea in 1901.

Rule #7: Italy may not move into or attack Munich in 1901.

Rule #8: Austria-Hungary may not move into or contest Rumania from Russia until Russia takes control of Rumania.

Rule #9: The winning side shares equally in the pot.

Rule #10: Germany has until Autumn 1902 to take control of Denmark, Holland, and Belgium.

I find that after a few turns England and Russia are ganging up on German Sweden. At the same time Germany has plenty of time to attack Russia without having to worry about Denmark and the low countries taken away. Also, it doesn't seem to me that Russia can handle so much pressure in it's southern front.

Any suggestions on some changes to the list?

Ok, definitely needs some work.

If we are trying to arrange a fairly even match between AGT and EFR with Italy on one side or the other within the constraints of normal diplomacy start up and rules (all we can impose is restrictions) then the situation as I see it is as follows
England is up against Germany
France is up against Germany and possibly Italy
Russia is up against Turkey, Austria and Germany
Germany is up against Russia, England and France
Austria is up against Russia and possibly Italy
Turkey is up against Russia
Italy is up against either Austria or France - potential for combat against Germany.
So: England and Turkey have only one enemy and that enemy is beset.
France may have only one enemy (two if Italy is with the central powers)
Italy has one enemy each way
Russia and Germany have three enemies
Austria has one enemy (two if Italy is with the Allies)
No clear reason from this analysis for Italy to be on one side or the other so lets assume it goes with the Allies as it did in our game.
Russia and Germany need protection
England and Turkey have very little opposition.
England can move to support Russia more easily than Turkey can move to support Germany (is this a reason to give the central powers Italy).
Will consider what can be done and post again later.

So - to even things up we want Germany to get three builds and to stand a chance of keeping the centres in 01 and for Russia to get some build(s) and to be protected from an early onslaught.
How about
1) E/F cannot violate neutrality
2) A cannot move to or support a move to Rumania in 01
3) Prussia, Silesia and Burgundy are DMZ in 01
4) R cannot move to Sweden in 01
Would that work?
Parallelopiped (691 D)
23 Aug 09 UTC
Not sure that point 4 is particularly helpful - Germany can't keep Sweden really so it makes not much difference.
You could add Armenia to the DMZs in 01.
StevenC. (1047 D(B))

A DMZ in Burgandy, Prussia, and Silesia in 1901 is definitely needed. Especially when Germany is already fighting two enemies almost at the outset. Also, Russia needs extra protection so I say uncontested access to the Black Sea in 1901 for Russia is fair.

Sounds reasonable

"A True Game"
I have created a new game in which I will control who plays (password). (1) No players with less than 10 finished games and (2) No two players in another active game. Send me a message if you wish play. Thank you.

PS am I fooling myself into thinking this can create a ‘fair’ game or is "CD" and pre-game alliances still bound to happen?

Cancel game
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=12169#votebar

We have all voted to cancel the game but it is not going through. Ghost messaged Kestas about it previously but nothing was resolved. Other factors changed and we are back to a cancel agreement. May we have a manual cancellation of this game?

Kestas... About Plura
I have no problem donating some of my processing power, but I just updated Java, and now every time I click on a new page, it gives me a warning that Plura requires an earlier version of Java, and asks if I want to run it. It has no "Don't show this message again" option... Can you fix this? I'm running Vista, if that matters.

Question about Draws
If you draw a game in which one of the players remaining is CD'ed, does that CD take upi a portion of the points? ie if 4 people are left but one of them is CD'ed would the pot be split 3 ways or 4?
