Out of interest, because I've never played in a gunboat game, can any players who regularly play gunboat comment on this one?

What do you do, as a player in a gunboat game, if another player tries to talk to you? Do you just ignore him? Do you grass him up to the other players? Does everyone gang up on him and eliminate him for breaking the unofficial rules?

If he is a CD takeover (especially a noob), I'll say "Dude! Gunboat! No Talking!" in private and, if anything he said might influence the game I'll make a full disclosure in global chat. If he was one of the starters in the game, though, I rip him a new one in global chat.

Unless of course I'm desperate for his/her help... <grin>

I usually tell him its a gunboat game and tell him what that means. I also then post in global saying 'I just received a message from xxxx. In the interest of full disclosure, this is what the message said ....

If you want to make the hint stronger (especially if you think they might have tried talking to other people) you can do that directly in global - "Just to remind certain players this is a gunboat which means no communication".
Saying that, We've just had someone speak in mine, but I decided not to comment because it was in global, wasn't significant and if i speak it could lead to a full conversation etc which is even worse.

Sorry, my bad figle. I don't really regard silly posts in global to be breaking the rule, but I will try my best to hold my peace.

Yes they do. Gunboat means no talking. You can hide secret little messages to others within nonsense posts.

Until the code committee here catches up with the anonymous manner to run Gunboat- no identification of the countries owners, no capability to post messages either in global or direct, why not simply go play Gunboat elsewhere rather than try to force a square peg into a small triangle ?
Let the code committee here work on their own priorities and let those that have concentrated on these sort of services be used?

There is no way to EVER enforce gunboat rules. Nothing can stop people from emailing or even calling on the telephone. I have no problems working on the honor system.

I like to keep my Dipping in this site. I once used playdip.com and Facebook phpDip, but this site has all I need to play the game, and I apreciatte the fact that it is on a single site.

So, I have no interest, at least at this time, to seek other places to play the game, so I'm willing to play gunboat by the honor system.

While I understand Edi's point (I'm a judge player as well as here), I think our honor system has worked pretty well so far. It seems to be the one place the multis and metas haven't invaded (knock on wood). I think it's because having someone beat your ass in a gunboat game where you were cheating with your friends or multi'ing would be so f-ing embarassing that no cheater wants to risk it.
