As for detection, Kestas does have a system set up to detect multi-accounters which he plans to pass on to moderators. He can't really describe what it is without compromising it's integrity I imagine. Other than that, our detection comes mostly from community watchdog threads such as this one. I would say most multiaccounters are caught fairly quickly.

As for prevention, we're certainly lacking a little in this area. All we really have is the threat of detection and removal... but honestly, I'm surprised we need prevention at all. What drives multiaccounters? You don't get anything from winning points, there's no material gain. There's just a sense of satisfaction of excelling and having succeeded, but that itself is lost when you cheat by multiaccounting. I'm at a loss to explain why people continue to do such things, there's absolutely no point. The problem with instituting more preventative measures is that it's difficult to do so without also creating difficulties for new players which we want to encourage. Eg. Forcing e-mail confirmation.
