Are countries assigned randomly?
New to this site here, so sorry if this is answered elsewhere that I didn't find. Are countries assigned randomly when a game starts? (I'm noticing in the Championship Belt Game Series that xorxes always plays Austria and captainmeme always plays France, but have not found any setting for choosing a country or assigning preferences or anything.)

Uber is kind of cool
So, I dont actually plan to spend money. But I downloaded this cool app called uber. I think its like, taxi cabs or toy cars or something. But they move. They wiggle around and travel places on this cool map that looks a little like real life. I watched this one car strolling down a highway. This is neat. How do I take over one of these cartoon car thingys

Former interim DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazile has come out exposing the Clinton campaign of taking over the DNC prior to her getting the nomination as the party's candidate which gave Clinton the control over the party's finances, strategy and all the money raised.

Incomplete orders on the small preview map are a problem.
Not all orders (most notably support orders) are shown on the small preview map of a game and, especially in Gunboat, this is pretty problematic.

Former Trump friend Manafort has 3 different US passports under his own name and at least one under a fake name that's he's used to travel and possibly move money. The first to be indicted and a step up the ladder of Republican lies about what was happening during the election campaign.

Detailed rules for a game
I am in a game and one player has either held all his units or been absent for 7 consecutive phases (!)
Is there a way to see for the game I am in what the detailed set up is?

Axis & Allies general discussion thread
See title. I started playing it about a month ago. It's quite fun and a very different challenge from Diplomacy. I'm still getting my head wrapped around the editions, but I believe my group plays the "Classic" version (Spring 1942 start and there are no artillery, destroyers, etc.)

A friend and I are also working on a "present-day" version.

When players die
if you think about it any of us could die tomorrow and the site would never know. The games would go on and nothing would change. In a month people may say “I ausverkauft seen so and so around.” But then nothing.

Turkey in a Gravy boat
So given Turkey looks juicy but its dry, I think a solution could be to just dip the turkey in a gravy boat. in a GB, I think dryness is minimized. I want it to be moist.

A geopolitical forum game set in 2009
There's a forum game that will start sometime this month called "Balance of Power 2009." You can find it here: http://eregime.org/index.php?act=idx

Some users on eRegime also play on webDiplomacy, which is why I mention this.

Turkey in a Gunboat
So given Turkey looked like it was the least fun to play especially in a GB, I decided to look trough past games where turkey won. What I noticed was many of those wins happened when either Russia or Austria CD'd the first turn. If Russia cd'd they'd move to Armenia vv
SkiingCougar (1682 D)

And if Austria CD'd they'd bounce in blk sea and bulg as normal and move to con instead of arm. The obvious moves when someone CD's. However which is the best one for a normal GB

I actually really like turkey in GB because you need such finesse. In press you have to hide the juggernaut but in GB you have to let arussia know what you're thinking without letting Austria know. You can ride those two alliances for some real success

So in a Gunboat as turkey u suggest jugg Everytime unless something else happens which affects it? I did also notice that it was the same people winning over and over. vv

So I guess that shows that people have turkey down to an art

Turkey is arguably the strongest power in gunboat. I'd personally say 2nd to France.

The ability of the other powers to dig out Turkey is so small, you can stick around in the game at 4 or 3 centers for years and years and nobody can successfully attack you. And if your neighbors give in to infighting, you can likely attack 2 or even all of them simultaneously and still do well.

In a press game, your neighbors can make deals and coordinate their moves to dig you out - but it's extremely difficult in gunboat. For example, if Russia controls Rumania, Austria controls Serbia, and Italy controls Greece, you might be able to keep Bulgaria without even doing any support-holds, even if all 3 players are hostile to you. You'll almost certainly get into Black Sea in 1901 and are rarely ever forced to leave it. With this kind of defense, it's probably impossible for your neighbors to take you out unless another of your neighbors has first been wiped out (e.g., Austria often has to crush Russia and/or Italy in order to invade Turkey).

Even if there is a strong alliance somewhere on the board, you'll probably be the last player eliminated, so if one of them goes for a solo win you have a chance to make it into the draw.

With good guesses and clever tactics, you can turtle a very long time until some situation appears where you can make a powerful guess and EXPLODE, expanding very quickly. If the 3 western powers are still at war when this happens, you have a good chance of a solo win.

@Yoyoyozo, your game's name and players are very compatible.

That's a good point swordsman, I never thought about the 'turtle' idea/tactic? Before. Which probably shows how new I am still to the game. Although the more I think about it the more it

@swordsman - I totally agree with your analysis. F is top, T is second. But the corollary of what you said to me is that with T is easier to draw and very easy to survive, with F is easier to win as it's harder to stalemate whereas T can be stalemated relatively easily.

Has anyone got an win draw lose stats for GB broken down per nation?

@yavu

Yeah I believe Maniac created the game. funnily, there was only 1 new player and several highly ranked players in that game. That always makes for a good time.

On a serious note. I agree totally with swords. Turkey lives to 1905 unless they get extremey unlucky

I had an example before where swordsmans idea was clearly evident (lost it now) but Russia was getting large and everyone attacked him, giving the small turkey a chance to expand

Yep. First rule of Turkey in GB - don't die.

You could say that of every power, but it's hard to dig Turkey out of that corner.
