Results of Ukraine-Referendum in The Netherlands.
A referendum was held about the pending association treaty between the EU and Ukraine. My country is the only country that hasn't agreed yet, because of a referendum with the unofficial outcome: "no" to the treaty. Some 32% voter turnout.
I voted "yes" and the general thought is that many people voted "no" against the EU in general, with Ukraine as collateral.
Thoughts?

Oh, btw, if you ever wonder why Russians love and need this "dictator" - just look at Libya, Syria (Syria is an example of a civil war to overthrow the dictator going horribly wrong) or Iraq. They were rather stable when they had dictators, and then West comes, installes democracy and then chaos and civil war starts. I'd rather live under a dictatorship which stabilizes the country than with "democracy" during a civil war.
Russia tasted "freedom" during the 90-s. Corruption became a norm, busynessmen used unlawful methods to eliminate their rivals, the moral norms stopped being a thing, education got ruined completely, army disorganised, economy got entirely skrewed, and all the government wanted was to get more money out of Russian citizens.
How did the West react? "Yeah, keep up the good work! You are getting closer to democracy and freedom!".
Thanks, I'd rather stick with a dictator than live through the second 90-s.

Yes and who is doing more to save Palmyra from being destroyed, your anarchist protest which says that Putin and Assad are evil or the Russian air force and Syrian Arab army? I'll wait.

Wishing death on people seems to come natural for you, Thucy.

If a killer dies, it isn't a happy event, but it isn't sad either, because more have been saved by the death. Killing a killer is another story though - there's no place for the death penalty or for murder in the world.

But seriously though, you're a fucking moron if you think that just because Putin is anti-West, and the West is bullshit, that Putin is worth defending. Fuck him and fuck you, fuck all the governments of the world. They exist to serve themselves.
TrPrado (461 D)

@maks-s15 Your last post makes me sad, since it seems that you have lost all hope of a better future. It is sad if young people, which I guess you are, looses hope in a better future. The worst thing about your dictator in Kremlin is that he behaves in a very aggressive way towards other countries. If he only would guarantee stability that would be one thing, but now he is a threat to world peace.
Octavious (2802 D)

Is he a threat to world peace? I am not Putin's biggest fan by any stretch, but whilst Russia is wielding a big stick on the world stage, I don't see any danger of a major conflict. Indeed, in Syria it is hard to come to any conclusion other than Russia is helping to bring the war to a swifter end. You can argue that Putin is doing it by helping an evil sod restore his power, but given the West's inability to offer anything better it's hard to criticise. And the joy and gratitude from many parts of the Syrian public to Russia is real.
Putin33 (111 D)

Putin represents peace, you and Peterlund represent war. Indeed you've been advocating war and interventionism on this forum for a long, long time. Russia is literally surrounded by NATO bases and NATO troops. The West has orchestrated coups or attempted to in virtually every post-Soviet republic. His economy is being economically suffocated based on bs sanctions. NATO has destroyed Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen, just to name a few of their disasters. And Putin is the killer? Putin is the aggressor? Putin is the threat to world peace? Putin is the only real force for world peace that exists. Putin in a just world would be getting a Nobel Peace Prize every single year. He literally just stopped *another* war *this very week* between Armenians in Mountainous Karabakh and the Turkish government in Baku.

"They exist to serve themselves."

You exist to serve yourself. People are dying because our government is destroying the planet, and you think the victims are just as bad as the aggressors because it makes you feel morally superior.

Yes magically now there is a consensus against unilateral declarations of independence but in the 1990s all these same countries who sanction Russia were just fine with such things.

"You exist to serve yourself. People are dying because our government is destroying the planet, and you think the victims are just as bad as the aggressors because it makes you feel morally superior."

Whoaaaaa whoa whoa whoa. What? No I don't. The US government is the most evil and damaging institution in the world today, followed by almost every Western corporation and government. Thing is though, here's the sticking point - none of that makes me want to suck Putin's dick like you do. He's an asshole and I will not side with him ever. I don't line up behind monarchs like a bootlicker.

About Putin being the threat to world peace, no he's not, not any more than Xi Jinping or some other shit head oligarch. He's just a symptom of a disease. The disease is industrial capitalism. It afflicts every country in the world these days. It even afflicts Antarctica these days.

See, what Putin is doing is watching the corrupt elites have a little feud amongst themselves and he is quite pitifully picking sides, saying "my oligarch is better than your oligarch!!" Whether it's true or not isn't really interesting or important. The main point is how sad and stupid it is to view any of them favorably. Every last one of them is an enemy of the global public and are the chief perpetuators of a global system that is threatening all of our lives. Endless war and imperialism, neocolonialism, corruption, environmental devastation, vacuous consumerism, predatorial capitalism, these things are as much Putin's game as anyone's, it's just that he isn't as impactful as the US is because he leads a second-tier country, and apparently has a Napoleon complex about it. Poor baby. I don't give a shit. If he had an ounce of courage, if Obama or Cameron or Xi did, they would go rogue and undermine their bullshit governments from within, whistleblow on it and all the rest. But they won't do that, because it's scary and they're cowardly pigs. There have been like, probably less than 5 times that national leaders have done that kind of thing in history, maybe none at all. All serious and lasting changes come from the bottom up. In America, we Americans have a responsibility to get our government dethroned. The way we do that does not involve licking Putin's boot. Let the Russians overthrow Putin, and we will overthrow our government. Lord knows Western Europe is ripe for another round of revolutions - let us pray they aren't fascist revolutions. If they are, let us pray the antifascists can beat them back.

What Putin's problem is is that he doesn't see that fascism and authoritarianism are everywhere. It's like a disease, it's a cancer on industrial society. The only way out is for the host to reject it completely. The population, the general public of the globe - we are the host.

About my past support for interventionism - to hell with statist intervention. Intervention as a general principle, to defend human rights and destroy authoritarianism - yes. Hell yes. Intervention by authoritarian governments - hell no. Disband all national militaries. People's self defense militias are enough, we don't need fucking massive gangs led by megalomaniacs squabbling over fucking oilfields or scraps of coastline for their doomsday subs. All that shit can go to hell, both sides. Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, all of those were bullshit.

When something like Rwanda happens, it is naive bullshit to think that the "international community" (which actually means the global elite class) will step in and do anything. If they do, it will be for some cynical reason, to pursue some political objective, using the crisis as a prop. Absent that, they will do nothing. It's for average people, collectively organizing, to stand up in solidarity and offer assistance in crises to groups that are in trouble. We are a long fucking way from that, but groups like the foreign fighters in the YPG seem to me an echo of what is possible in that regard. Less bombing campaigns, more international solidarity.

The Right to Bear Arms - A Repudiation
So it turns out that the right to bear arms was actually only intended insofar as the usage by paramilitary militia groups in the event of a prolonged and protracted occupation by an enemy. The modern day interpretation of our gun laws is a fallacy perpetrated by the gun lobby to keep people dying, and keep their coffers flowing.

Is there a place for Diplomacy statistics?
I've been casually reading through Richard Sharp's "The Game of Diplomacy" and he keeps referencing statistics he got from somewhere. I know the book is very dated but I was curious as to if there was still somewhere I could find these statistics and if they've been kept up to date.

Is it possible to have exactly one electron sent through an electric circuit somehow?
What I ideally want is two power sources which send one electron each at the same time into one single electric circuit, observing which route is taken (indirectly).
Thoughts on whether this is possible? Thoughts on how to do this?

How statistically possible is it to only get France or Turkey when you play on classic?
Throughout my 20 or so games that I have played, I have been France and Turkey a disproportionate amount of times. I'm not complaining, it just seems weird. In 2 recent games that just started, I drew Turkey in one, and France in another.

So I met this girl
She is moderately attractive, and plays board games. She is very close to my age and is a soil scientist. I was thinking I would play it slow and do the whole friendzone thing for a while intentionally but with an M. Night Shamalyan twist at some point and I surprise her with a new board game we can play or something.
