I mostly hate when they start playing carols and hymns. Can't we have one month a year without all the religious bull? Where we can enjoy Christmas, family, and gift-sharing, without some ancient book being shoved down our throats?

They just never give up.

"Enjoy Christmas [...] without some ancient book"

You must realise where Christmas comes from, surely?

If the religious origin of Christmas bothers you so much, why celebrate at this time? No one's forcing you. Have your family celebration in another month if you want to avoid the religious celebrations -- but if you're going to celebrate during a festival that is religious in origin it seems only reasosble to expect religious forms of celebration to be taking place.

If it's just family and gift-sharing you want, you don't have to acknowledge Christmas, you can instead focus on birthdays and create your own secular occasions.

Yeah, Christmas music is really offensive. They should censor all the mentions to it and change it to holiday music instead.

I thought Christmas was originally the Roman festival of Saturnalia that the Christian church appropriated for their propaganda,
So if you want to then have a party with family and friends, and celebrate the old God's, Jupiter, Mars and Hymen, God of marriage, et al

@Changing "Christmas" to Holiday"
you guys, you do realize that "holiday" means "holy-day"?
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)
13 Dec 15 UTC
It's never been about "changing" one word to another. It is about acknowledging that this time of year has holidays for everyone, not only Christians.
@MM Also the Christmas tree isn't secular, it comes from the Germanic tribes' worship of Thor

I mean, he died like almost 20 years ago. But at least you'd get charged with something like mutilating a body rather than battery. Ironically, mutilating a body is a felony, yet minor battery is not. So you can get charged more for doing something to a dead body than to an actual person.

At this point we know basically nothing certain about Jesus anyway, given that the Roman Catholic Church meticulously destroyed all but four chosen gospels.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that historians speculate Jesus' birth around March. The church chose December to pander to the Romans, and the lit trees is an ancient pagan ritual. The birth of Christ is a lie and the only true thing you can trust is consumerism. This winter I will be praying to the one true God, Hallmark.
KingCyrus (511 D)
14 Dec 15 UTC
I had heard two lines of reasoning for the timing for Christmas that put it in December, but I haven't actually fact-checked them.

The first was that ancient Christians believed that martyrs died on the day of their conception, and they knew when Jesus died. Wasn't hard to figure out the rest...

Second line of thought was that they knew what kind of priest Zacharias, so they knew what time of the year he would be serving in the Temple. Then they knew when John the Baptist was conceived, and I think Jesus was supposed to be six months after that.

But there is no concrete way to prove exactly the line of thought, as I doubt any documents survived from that era regarding it.
