The Speaker
Since House Republicans are having a difficult time finding someone for them to elect as Speaker that actually wants the job, do you think we could get them to nominate someone from webDip? It could be a brilliant way to kickstart a political career, especially if we aren't Republican yet by some miracle actually make it there. Are there any willing among us?

Bugged Country Draw?
Hey guys,

One of our friends (http://www.webdiplomacy.net/profile.php?userID=62648&page-games=1#top), out of 6 normal diplomacy games (one in progress), has drawn Germany 6 out of 6 times. That has a 8.49 * 10^-6 chance of happening. It seems like his account is probably bugged somehow?

Favorite alliance in western powers:
It seems all so often on this site either France or England do their best to side with the German against the other. But I like. EF, what about you guys

How do you join a private game
I have created a private game for my friends to join...but I can't figure out how to send them a link that would easily enable them to join (i.e. a page where all they have to do is enter the password). Please help.

Unbreakable alliances
I hate them.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

1. How many games have you been in, where it is clear that two powers in the game are allied so strongly that one will never stab the other, no matter what? Effectively, an approach valuing a guaranteed 2-way solo over a risky solo.

2. What strategy do you employ when you realise you are facing an unbreakable alliance?

3. If you are someone who would use this approach, agreeing to work for a 2-way or 3-way draw from early on - WHY do you favour this approach?

I really do hate when people literally throw away the guaranteed solo for a two-way draw. For example, when a power with 17 SCs supports a power with 16 SCs into that tiny single-center power, with like forty support (meaning he could have taken it himself easily)

I distinctly remember a (live, 5 min/phase) game in which I was Germany, and EF formed an alliance ...

It seemed to be completely unbreakable. Despite all my diplomatic efforts to persuade them to split up (I honestly believe that England and France are much better allying with Germany than with each other), they ignored me and proceeded to destroy me. After I had been completely eliminated, I left the computer table and did other stuff.

Anyway, a few hours later I get back on to figure out that the game had ended. England had 18 centers, France had 16. Just let that sink in for a moment. England was actually sitting in Ankara, with France owning Constantinople and Smyrna. England in particular had tons of opportunities to stab France for the eighteenth center, but he never did. I never understood why.

Anyway, that would be my answer to your first question. England and France never attacked each other no matter what the circumstance was.

For your second question, I'd recommend trying to get as many other nations as you can to ally against the unbreakable alliance. If you can prove that a particular alliance is virtually unbreakable, it should be relatively easy - the problem is that you often don't know which alliances are simply good alliances and which alliances are unbreakable alliances until it's too late.

For your final question, I cannot truly answer that because I believe that winning is the point of every game, not drawing.

Thanks Drummer. In terms of your answer to 2., yeah the issue is letting the other powers spot it quickly enough!

I was West Canada, and Brazil-Argentina were butt-tight bros, but I convinced Brazil that I could be useful, and I ended up making it into a near- 3 way, but we got shut down.

I'm going to now discuss an ongoing gunboat game. http://www.vdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=23934#gamePanel
France will probably win. I am not involved in this game.

If i see an "unbreakable alliance" i will try everything in my power to either break the alliance or the people.

The only correct answer here is to find the people who like to make unbreakable alliances, convince them that you're one of them so they ally with you, and then stab them for the solo.

+1 @peterwiggin

Also, no matter what one thinks about metagaming, if the game is non-anonymous (and sometimes even if it *is* "anonymous"), reputation matters.

Players who *demonstrably* can be relied on not to stab *ever*, *can* form a legit two way alliance from day one, and be almost certain they can roll the board together.

The logistics and tactical advantages to *never even have to think* about guarding your flank from your "ally", are not exactly insignificant.

Yeah I hate these games.

The only one that comes to my directly is at a f2f tournament I was at. I was in a game with the organizer and a long time friend of his. They were extremely close allies from the first. I poured a ton of energy into every negotiation phase trying to get either of them to split. (I was F, they were E and G). Finally one of them said, "Man, these are really good ideas. You're trying hard, which is great. But there's really nothing you can do. We go back too far."

So that was that.

I don't really know what you can do.

The solution there is to stick with anonymous games. Of course, that doesn't apply to ftf. I've only played about 4 ftf games ever, so you'll have to ask somebody else for advice there.

Yes be in the 2 way alliance if you can , but the stab should never be off the table..

Too try to break an allaince I pick the one I can slow o weaken most in the hope that the other will stab or other players get involved ..Global messaging if you can..

If Identified early enough, treat them as one country, and encourage everyone else band together and eliminate them.

Penny stocks
Penny stocks have recently caught my eye and was wondering if there are anyone here who have had any experiences with them. From what I can tell they have the tendency to be quite risky but also can be quite rewarding if one knows what they are doing.
