What if the internet shut down on holidays?

A random 4th of July thought. Why do servers still run on holidays? Pretty much all businesses are closed.

I work on call. Exiting Gunboat gracefully

How does one exit a gunboat game most gracefully?
Can one find a replacement player to minimize game disruption?

Please don't play live games if you can't dedicate the time for them. There is no graceful way. At best going through the mods to put out an anon forum post asking for a replacement but it's not graceful nor quick nor should be relied/expected on.

Live games are much more difficult to leave gracefully than non-live. Best shot would be to PM a mod and see what the options are

You can always try Pause along with the PM to a mod.

I, and I'm sure many other live players, would never accept a pause without some sort of GameMaster announcement. Without ability to know why and when/whether it will ever be unpause there's absolutely no reason to and 99% it just cancels.

I would strongly recommend emailing the mod email [email protected] over pm'ing a mod. Many of us have the email open all day, but not the site. PM's are also easy to miss, and we ask that players not pm us about issues for that reason. We will always reply to emails though.

Yes, I emailed and Goldfinger kindly reached out to me, which I appreciated.
I will try and avoid entering a gunboat in future unless I have at least 3.5 hours in front of me secure.
This one lasted around 4 hours all told and was way away from finishing.
Most gunboats on this site people ready up: not this case today. Every turn went its full 5 mins.
I wonder what the average time for a gunboat is.

@goldfinger I understand what you're saying, but I was under the impression that there's no global chat in gunboat games. At least I haven't found any. Unless the mods could create one and issue the notice, there seems to be a communication problem

On The Forum

As some of you may know, I have been a strong proponent of a one forum system. After some careful reflection, though, I've decided separate forums are better. I have a proposal that would allow for the separation of topics without the segregation of the community that many fear. Fun Fact

Lots of people assume I'm a musician due to the way I look. Compliment? Insult? Fun fact for sure!
