We're experimenting with trial by fire, abgemacht is currently working on a piece of programming that overloads the computer of a player in CD, causing it to overheat and burn down their dwelling and possibly them too. The hope is that our CD rate will plummet precipitously in short order

Keep in mind that a vast vast majority of the players that CD are one's that simply don't care. No punishment is going to be harsh enough to prevent them from quitting a game. It's also likely that they are only on webdib for a short time and after they lose game after game, they leave for good. Players that get into Diplomacy as a serious thing tend to not CD. These players stick around for a long time.

Barring that, I recommend burning the witch. Don't forget to throw them into the water to see if they float first, though.

After three CDs, make them only play with other CDers. That way if no one shows up we won't care and they won't notice.

People need to learn there are lessons to be learned from losing. Also, take triple the points bet away if you CD.

I still think a old fashion firing squad is the most efficient. Although hopefully these good points everyone made will make it into the site at some point especially the burning them ones.

@ssorenn: if they refill to 100 , is losing points really an issue? This hurts players that earn over 100 pts--and they aren't the ones that usually CD...

Well if they are under 100 they should lose said point and not get refilled to 100 therefore they can't be in as many games

Aren't the reliability ratings being implemented supposed to do just that? Like on vdip?
