A note to newbies NEVER take over a position in a game
The odds that the existing players are colluding against you to steal your points is just to high. Better to just let the game die

Why do some players never ready up??
Thread

A number of times I've been in a game, usually 1-2 day gunboat, and there are certain players who never click ready. For example they are always the only player to let full clock run. or they have a dislodge where the only option is disband but still use whole time. What's the piece I'm missing? Are there a number of players who just feel they should use the whole time just because its there?

I know sometimes I do it for scheduling reasons. Life gets busy and that's the only way I can get a game in.
shield (3929 D)
20 Feb 14 UTC
Sure but every turn? What if you miss a move because you waited 48 hrs for your disband then you have lots of work and can't make it on the next two days?
RAZ000 (272 D(G))
20 Feb 14 UTC
There is a nice consistency to the game schedule versus real life if you let the clock run out. When life gets busy it's nice to know you still have time to get things done before needing to rush to a computer/ wifi connection to check in.
Some people like to look at the board and think on it for a while before entering orders. I know I only really enter my final orders in the last 12 hours of the phase. So it could be just to give themselves time to think it over, or planning ahead, as CF said, if they know that they'll be busy for a stretch of time.
Squigs44 (273 D)
20 Feb 14 UTC
for example, lets say that I am in a game with 2 day phases, and I am going to be busy for the next 3 days. If I click ready, then it is possible that the next turn will expire in 2 days. But if I let it sit, I know for sure that the next turn wont expire for 4 days.

If you don't like playing the full phase, don't join the fucking game!
mendax (321 D)
21 Feb 14 UTC
In gunboats, i tend to ready up quickly. In press games I rarely hit ready, even if I'm not in ny discussions myself in the latter half of a phase.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
21 Feb 14 UTC
There are a endless reasons why someone would need an entire phase, but the theme of it is, it's very possible that they only can check the game one time a day, so they need the time the phase goes through to remain consistent. Otherwise, if everyone readied up they may not be able to get to the phase in time or have as much time to review it as they'd like.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
21 Feb 14 UTC
If I sign up for a 2 day / phase game, I don't get mad when people take the full amount of time. They're perfectly entitled to that. If it's a build or retreat, it gets annoying, but no big.
Ogion (3882 D)

It also allows for time for press. Sometimes it takes a while to work things out
josunice (3702 D(S))
21 Feb 14 UTC
You should assume that each turn will take the full time alloted, and if that is too frustrating, play only shorter phases. Don't waste energy on whether that guy is an ass or has a real reason. I often only have time late at night and not every night, so sometimes in a 36 hour game I need to wait a part of a day so that the next phase will take me through the following evening... better than a high risk of NMR, I think...
shield (3929 D)
21 Feb 14 UTC
thanks guys :D I agree with Chaqa. It would be nice if they ready up sooner but you play the duration of the phase no problem.

Here's a question for religious people
Why did Jesus perform miracles? Wouldn't he be a much more palpable and credible figure if he *hadn't* performed miracles and just did *good deeds*? Another one: *why* doesn't the bible a) tell what we know to be true about the Universe or b) remain silent on it instead of c) say things that are simply contradictory to it?
