"The EU was negotiating a trade deal, Russia decided to scupper it, that's all i know for sure."
That's just flatly untrue. Russia didn't scupper anything. Ukraine chose for itself. Russia simply said that it would have to take protective measures if a flood of European products enter Russia via Ukrainian market. A sovereign decision for Russia to protect its economy. The EU meanwhile is threatening sanctions and a financial blockade, and imposed conditions like rehabilitating Tymoshenko, and gave no assurances that Ukraine would be compensated for any losses it would take from losing trade preferences in the CIS.
"But yes, the EU uses soft power, because it doesn't have an army to threaten the use of hard power."
Threatening a financial blockade on Ukraine is just as damaging. Stop deluding yourselves into thinking your strong-arm tactics are benign.
" the Ukrainian opposition existed before"
The Ukrainian opposition was born in Germany. The UDAR party was formed in Germany with German money and German coordination. Klitscko would be completely irrelevant like he was in the mid-2000s if not for EU support. The Orange Revolution was a miserable failure, and that too is being propped up by EU pressure to rehabilitate Tymoshenko.
"I can't find any reference to any EU nation sending aid or selling weapons..."
