You played well from what I see, but the tone of the game may have been different. Your opponents to the west certainly opened a few doors for you but you took advantage of that. That's just well played, not luck.

The point that Czech made above is the only luck I can think of right now.

I was lucky to have such a trusting Austria - I left VEN open forever and I also left ION open for a stab. It was a gamble that paid off.

The assured way to hold the stalemate was to have England take Spain. I supported him there from Portugal. Even if he bounced, we could have held him off forever.

Any other moves require continual gambling in which Italy eventually wins. I'm surprised that Split didn't realize this.

Nice win Lando. Wish I could have done more to stop the solo, but Turkey collapsed way too quickly for me to get anything going before you got big.

Over in the West it was a continual mess. Autumn 1903 completely blew me away. I (France) had just convoyed to England, leaving just two armies in France. England had just grabbed Sweden from Germany. Russia had left German territory, and Germany has three fleets on the North Sea. And what does Germany do? Destroys a fleet!

I really don't understand that. England is bearing down your throat, and you remove your chances of pushing him back and weaken France. I knew from that point that the game would not be going well for me. Lucky for me England didn't ever make total peace with Germany, or I would've been out much earlier.

Yes, that's probably fair. I agree that I probably should have moved away earlier. But I wanted to make sure that Italy was right on top of me so that I wouldn't get eliminated first. Remember that Germany was trying to kill me off 'til quite late.

I could argue that you lost the game earlier when you didn't let up on Germany and just concentrate on France.
