Looking for top 50 WTA GR sub
Turkey went AWOL in gameID=98520. We caught it before he CD'd so it's not that bad of a position at all. We're looking for a top 50 WTA GR player to take over.

Missing a key build
Last turn I took 3 SC's. I specifically remember building an army in Sevastopol, and there is nothing there. I checked the orders and there's nothing there. Im playing as Russia.

100 questions
I will provide a scenario to you all, and then ask you a question. You may all ask as many questions as you want to get to the answer to my question, but I'll only answer "yes," "no," or "it doesn't matter." If you already know the answer, please don't spoil it for the others. This is a group activity so read what others have asked and work together (in my experience, 2 people solve it much more quickly than 1, and a group of 4 usually gets it in 20-30 min. of so).

As many of you know I'll be on vacation October 1-7. At that time I will request a sitter. Please keep in mind I have a rather high volume of games that I'm playing as well as high quality so i don't need someone like fortress door or dubmdell being my sitter... If interested apply within

So I got a question, but I'm afraid it will turn into a debate.
Hey guys! I wanna have sex. So instead of doing something normal, like, you know, asking my parents about it...I'm gonna ask a whole bunch of strangers on the internet. 'Cause, you know, I'm gonna be this big badass college guy who has sex all the time. Oh, yeah, how do babies work again? I don't want to get those innocent little girls pregnant right after I've sexed 'em up...

More maps!
Why wouldn't mods add more variants of game? At least these: Europe 1939, Colonial Diplomacy, Modern Diplomacy II, Youngstown - Redux.
May be these maps aren't balanced as well as existing ones, but I think they would be popular.

Sure, but what I'm saying is that, as far as I can tell, you haven't provided a counterexample. I think you may have shown that using the Olympic rings style works on a certain rectangle with big circles but not small ones, but it doesn't show that a different strategy on that rectangle with the small rectangles wouldn't work, right?
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
23 Sep 12 UTC
Ahh crap. You are indeed.
ghug (5068 D(B))
23 Sep 12 UTC
Yes.

Take the rectangle, cover it with big circles, and then scale everything to 1/4 size (divide side lengths by 2, change circle radii to 1) and now you have 1/4 of the rectangle completely covered by 25 1-inch circles. If 1/4 of the rectangle is covered by 25 circles, the whole rectangle can be covered by 100 of them.

Am I missing something?

^This.

Edges. Size of rectangle. Amount of overlap. These factors need to be specified or accounted for in the solution.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
23 Sep 12 UTC
so obvious... now :)
ghug (5068 D(B))
23 Sep 12 UTC
@Mujus, nope, doesn't matter. It just has to work for *any* rectangle that can be covered by the 25 circles of radius 2. The amount of overlap is entirely dependent on the rectangle.

A magician's assistant gets five audience members to draw a card each from a standard 52 card deck. He looks at the five cards and then hands four of them, one at a time, to the magician, who immediately identifies the fifth card. How is this possible?
uclabb (589 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
Ok, so maybe this is cheating, but he is handing the magician 4 cards, so there are 4! = 24 ways he can pass them on. In order to get another *2, he can either pass them all upside down or right side up (the audience doesn't know whether he was planning on passing them right side up or upside down). This gives 48 units of information. Any function from these 48 choices to the 48 remaining cards would work.

Yeah?
ghug (5068 D(B))
23 Sep 12 UTC
The only thing that can be changed is the order of the cards, so no, that doesn't work.
uclabb (589 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
So he chooses which one is the card to be guessed?
ghug (5068 D(B))
23 Sep 12 UTC
Yes.
uclabb (589 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
Ok, I have an idea:

Since there are 5 cards, there are some 2 of the same suit. So we should for sure choose one of those 2 as the card to be guessed. That way, we can put the other one first, to give suit, and then still have 3 cards of freedom. That is still 4!= 24 units of information, but we still have choice between those two cards (which is first and which is to be guessed). I haven't yet figured out how to choose between them, and I am getting distracted by my Chargers getting taken apart.
uclabb (589 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
Ok, I think I have it.

I'm pretty sure that the first card shown can narrow the secret card down to 6 cards as follows: There are certainly 2 cards of the same suit. One of those is going to be the secret card and one of them is going to be the first card. Also, one of these cards is 6 or less "behind" the other. I.E. if you have a 4 of spades and a king of spades, the king is 4 (ace, 2, 3, 4) behind the 4. So if you make the first card the one that is "behind", then you hve narrowed it to the six cards after that card, and can encode the choice from there with the last 3 cards using permutations.

Yes?

I'd love to know who was playing Russia, saw an Austrian CD and played until 1906 until he was stalemated. I (France) wasted two fucking hours for a game which should've been canceled at the beginning.

Really, I hate this kind of player...

How does Drawing affect Ghost Rating?
If I draw a game with very bad players, due to somebody CDing or cheating, and it ends in a 6-way-draw with players that have really bad GR, my GR will probably decrease, or will it? And in winner-takes-all games, is drawing less equalized than in PPSC? thank you in advance.

Help with a player who wont vote unpause.
Hello, I was wondering how I might get a hold of the mods to help get a game going again. We have one player who wont vote unpause, and as a result the game has been halted for well over a month. Are we screwed or is there still hope of recovering our match?

Thanks

Italy/Austria
I am a firm believer that if the two attack one another early, both will end up losing in the long haul. On the other hand, is it necessary that Italy and Austria support each other?
