Looking for top 50 WTA GR sub
Turkey went AWOL in gameID=98520. We caught it before he CD'd so it's not that bad of a position at all. We're looking for a top 50 WTA GR player to take over.

Missing a key build
Last turn I took 3 SC's. I specifically remember building an army in Sevastopol, and there is nothing there. I checked the orders and there's nothing there. Im playing as Russia.

100 questions
I will provide a scenario to you all, and then ask you a question. You may all ask as many questions as you want to get to the answer to my question, but I'll only answer "yes," "no," or "it doesn't matter." If you already know the answer, please don't spoil it for the others. This is a group activity so read what others have asked and work together (in my experience, 2 people solve it much more quickly than 1, and a group of 4 usually gets it in 20-30 min. of so).

As many of you know I'll be on vacation October 1-7. At that time I will request a sitter. Please keep in mind I have a rather high volume of games that I'm playing as well as high quality so i don't need someone like fortress door or dubmdell being my sitter... If interested apply within

So I got a question, but I'm afraid it will turn into a debate.
Hey guys! I wanna have sex. So instead of doing something normal, like, you know, asking my parents about it...I'm gonna ask a whole bunch of strangers on the internet. 'Cause, you know, I'm gonna be this big badass college guy who has sex all the time. Oh, yeah, how do babies work again? I don't want to get those innocent little girls pregnant right after I've sexed 'em up...

More maps!
Why wouldn't mods add more variants of game? At least these: Europe 1939, Colonial Diplomacy, Modern Diplomacy II, Youngstown - Redux.
May be these maps aren't balanced as well as existing ones, but I think they would be popular.

I'd love to know who was playing Russia, saw an Austrian CD and played until 1906 until he was stalemated. I (France) wasted two fucking hours for a game which should've been canceled at the beginning.

Really, I hate this kind of player...

How does Drawing affect Ghost Rating?
If I draw a game with very bad players, due to somebody CDing or cheating, and it ends in a 6-way-draw with players that have really bad GR, my GR will probably decrease, or will it? And in winner-takes-all games, is drawing less equalized than in PPSC? thank you in advance.
Tantris (2456 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
You can read more about it at the ghost rating site, but in general you put a percentage of your ghost rating in the put. If you are much higher, it will be higher. Draw splits the put evenly.
Tantris (2456 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
Put should be pot in two places.
Yonni (136 D(S))
23 Sep 12 UTC
It depends on the type of game.
In WTA, it's a very simply formula.

Each player contributes 1/16.5 (iirc) of their GR into a pot. All drawing parties get an even amount. If the draw size is big enough a you contribute enough points compared to everyone else, it is possible to lose poin over all.
Yonni (136 D(S))
23 Sep 12 UTC
For PPSC, it's slightly more complicated because your share of the pot depends on how many centres you have but if you follow it through, the same cases exist.
Draugnar (0 DX)
23 Sep 12 UTC
No it doesn't, Yonni. Even PPSC splits the GR pot evenly in a draw.
Yonni (136 D(S))
23 Sep 12 UTC
Hmm. Thought not. Not sure how GR accounts for PPSC (if it does at all) then.
I'll have to check out TGM's site later.
Tantris (2456 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
It does, but only in wins...not in draws.
Yonni (136 D(S))
23 Sep 12 UTC
K, thanks. I assume its actually only in survives - in a win you should always be rewarded for 18sc.
Tantris (2456 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
Yeah, in wins, I believe it is limited to 18. So, if you did something tricky and were able to capture 30, you would still be awarded only for 18...I believe.
Yonni (136 D(S))
23 Sep 12 UTC
This is all a little funny because there's a disconnect in the way that webDip points an GR deal with PPSC draws.
At any rate, WTA is *real* diplomacy of course. ; )
Tantris (2456 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
webDip points work the same way.
Yonni (136 D(S))
23 Sep 12 UTC
Really?!
God, I was confused.

So the only advantage of playing for more centres in PPSC is if you're planning in getting survive?
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
GR, misunderstood since 2008
Tantris (2456 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
The advantage to playing PPSC is that there is less risk. As long as you survive, you get something.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
Yes, Yonni
Tantris (2456 D)

There was discussion of a hybrid system at one point. In it, some part of the pot would be awarded for a win, with the rest split by supply center. When the discussion was going on, I advocated throwing away that part in the case of a draw, to penalize draws and encourage wins. There was talk of having that part split evenly in a draw and the rest be ppsc.

My way of dealing with PPSC, is I try to play more WTA games. PPSC kind of encourages some bad behavior
Tantris (2456 D)
23 Sep 12 UTC
Hey Ghostmaker, thought you weren't around anymore. Good to see you..
Alderian (2425 D(S))

@Tantris, I disagree.

In PPSC there are a lot of times someone will let another player win just so they can gather up more points for a strong second than they would get in a draw.

Whereas in WTA it is less likely that someone will win because that is only a good result for the winner and there is therefore a higher chance of getting a draw even if a small country.

Way back when, I feared WTA thinking it was riskier. But I found it really isn't.

The only way PPSC is less risky is in the case a game is ruined by a CD that gives someone the game.

IMHO
Yonni (136 D(S))

So, there are cases where someone can have a strong second in a large draw situation where it would actually be to they advantage to throw someone the win rather than take the draw?
orathaic (1009 D(B))
23 Sep 12 UTC
The alternative to drawing and losing GR points is to cancel.

The alternative to letting a game be ruined is to play on without the quit/banned/missing player - and to take this imbalance as a factor in game which you must overcome (using diplomatic skill to counter the imbalance)

@yonni "So, there are cases where someone can have a strong second in a large draw situation where it would actually be to they advantage to throw someone the win rather than take the draw?"

Yes..

a 16 point survive is more rewarding than a 3 way draw in PPSC.

It's the fundamental "flaw" in the variant for hardcore dippers.

Help with a player who wont vote unpause.
Hello, I was wondering how I might get a hold of the mods to help get a game going again. We have one player who wont vote unpause, and as a result the game has been halted for well over a month. Are we screwed or is there still hope of recovering our match?

Thanks

Italy/Austria
I am a firm believer that if the two attack one another early, both will end up losing in the long haul. On the other hand, is it necessary that Italy and Austria support each other?

Builds in W01 that signal that someone wants war to the knife.
Are ther any builds that another power can make right off the bat which says to you that they have decided on entering into a state of permanent with you?
