Full Disclosure Game 1 is done.
I have emailed a copy of the press to all players involved in the game that emailed me their press. If anyone else on this site is interested in a copy of the 370 page pdf file, you can email me at [email protected] and I will send it out. I will wait 2 weeks or so to send the copies out since the players that played get first-dibs on viewing the material.

Stressedlines (1559 D)
23 Aug 12 UTC
(To: You, from France) - Spring, 1901: I'm thinking we DMZ the channel to start with. Depending on how things go for you up north this year, I'd definitely look forward to strong cooperation between us.
(To: You, from France) - Spring, 1901: You could, if this sounds at all good to you, convoy to Nor via NWG while using NTH to pick up Bel in the fall. That way the DMZ is unbroken and you've got your two builds. As long as you don't tell Germany, he won't dare think he has a shot at NTH.
(To: You, from France) - Spring, 1901: I think I'll do about half of those things, since I have my talks with other nations to consider. I'm not going to break the DMZ, but if sending the army to Yor will put you at ease, I'm not going to argue.

(To: France, from you) - Autumn, 1901: Well if you insist on that 'WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ME' then ill just fight you and give the island to the german which is still within my grasp (this was about him telling me, that he was shopping for the best profit)

(To: France, from you) - Autumn, 1901: Well, maybe i read your message wrong, but here is a fact. Germany has 6 centers. If he takes me, he will also get norwway/sweden which is 11. I dont think you want to face 11 center Germany vs 5 center france, right?

I am going to take norway, with Russias blessing, as he is very concerned about Germany, as he SHOULD be.

I can already ssupect germany will build 2 fleets , one to capture sweden one to push me from the north sea.

Here is how I see it If there is a fleet build in brest, i will consider you are going to attack me, and pull everything back to fight you.

Germany does not need france long term, and maybe not at all. England does.

(To: You, from France) - Autumn, 1901: This is an idea I'd had a little while ago. I build F Bre and A Par (bear with me) Bre goes to MAO to convoy Por back to the eastern front and all the French units (minus the new fleet, resting peacefully in some place like Spain) are poised to launch an attack east. What do you think?

To: France, from you) - Autumn, 1901: WEll, logistically, it does not make it go any faster.

Watch
Spain to gascony (assuming you build a fleet in marseilels or army)

port to spain

If you build a fleet, where exactly you convoying it then? brest? Easier to just build an army in brest if that is waht you want.

Just my 2 bits. if the fleet is in brest, you gain little, and probably force me into 100% turtle mode, and giving the north sea to Germany 9already going to be a struggle to keep it ANYWAYS)
To: You, from France) - Spring, 1902: What I don't get is I'm offering to work with you, and you seem determined to alienate yourself from everybody except a Russia who's in no position to lend assistance.

MY TWO BITS HERE> This is where France and I parted ways. He offers to ‘work with me’ by building a fleet in Brest, which of course I knew was for me, and then tried to insult me just a little bit more, by coming with some retarded strat, that I guess I was suppose to believe, and gobble up hook, line and sinker. It was here and now that I would never trust him again, as he did the ultimate sin. He underestimated his enemy . Don’t piss on my leg and tell me it is raining, ok?

(To: You, from France) - Autumn, 1902: I didn't mean to imply that at all. It was about 4:00 am local time when I sent that message and forgot to change my orders afterward. I fully understand if that sounds like a total load of bullshit to you. If you're willing to forgive that mistake, I'll be most grateful, though if not I completely understand.

This was sent to me AFTER his failed stab. Again, insulting my intelligence.

(To: France, from you) - Autumn, 1902: look, seriously. If you want to just lie lie lie. that is not really diplomacy. It is just you lying over and and over and over. Stabbing is an Art sir, not a string of lies.

tell the truth for a while, THEn stab, I can appreciate THAT. What you are doing, well, it just painful as you keep trying to make me think you are telling the truth.

Now, The german will get all of England, because, quite frankly, I am not interestedin doing anything but defending vs you.

And after failed stab #2, where he had been asking for help into Belgium from spain..lol comical really that he kept trying beat this deadhorse.

And now, after me accusing him of lying, this is the big reply…

To: You, from France) - Autumn, 1902: It wasn't a lie if you would've offered me help into Bel. I've been asking you for help for three seasons now, and you've not given me much of a choice.
To: You, from France) - Autumn, 1902: You wanna talk with people I've played before, go ahead. They'll all say the same thing, that I don't tell petty, pointless lies, and when given trust, will be a valuable and loyal ally.

I think your skepticism is clouding your judgement.
(To: You, from France) - Autumn, 1902: Hell, even just talk to Russia, or anyone else on the board aside from Germany, and they'll all tell you I've been asking you for help keep Germany in check.

...or, you know, keep relying on your oh-so-infallible gunboat instincts instead of contributing nothing but "prove yourself" to the conversation.

See, now this is what I dealt with. He tries to stab me twice, and then I got the above from him. He has been asking for help, but everytime he ‘asks for help’ he is trying to stab ME. He had a fleet in irish sea as this time, tried to land in wales. This is also the point, where I am self bouncing all over damn England.

(To: You, from France) - Autumn, 1902: I didn't want to let him grow. Ever since I told you ahead of time that I was moving into ENG to prepare a strike at Germany, I've been asking for your help and I've gotten nothing. I've been asking Russia to convince you to help me fight Germany, I've offered concrete plans of attack, and all I've gotten in return is "prove yourself." How am I supposed to do that, especially now that Germany has a strong lead on both of us individually?

I've been forced by your lack of faith to trust Germany. He knows everyone on the board is gunning for him, except for me because my plans to knock him down a peg are being held up by you

And again, here he makes it MY fault for defending, that he cant attack germany. He wont not move out of my waters, and it was MY fault for not trusting him. So, as you can see here, there is little DOUBT what I was dealing with, and he will not be able to produce anything to contradict this.

This was the reason for the problems with France, and my highly defensive play thru most of the first 6 years.

I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you. As for fall of '02, I told you it was a mistake, and it really was. I've stopped caring whether or not you choose to believe it.

Any thoughts from TA's would be very welcome!

To all the players: in my messages to you that first sentence should be "I hope you enjoyed playing in the SoW game." Also please send your messages for the game to the email I included in the pm

Thanks again for joining, hope it helped you all out!

@the TA's, thanks so much for volunteering your time, I think this game was extremely interesting with a lot of stabs, alliances, and maneuvering. Basically a great teaching game. While there were some less then brilliant turns by almost every player the overall skill level in the game really reflected the skill of the TA's helping the students. Thanks again.

@ the professors, especially Tru Ninja, thank you for the spectacular commentary and insights each year without overly influencing the games. Reading over all the commentary there were several times where you mentioned things that I had completely overlooked so it's good to keep in mind that it is not just new players that can learn from following these SoW threads.

Great game to everyone involved.

I had a great time working with Stressedlines. We discussed overall strategy to diplomatic stances to tactical maneuvers. I thought he kept his composure and played well after that initial mistake in 1901. Well done, Stressedlines.

Does anyone have the list of who tutored whom?
uclabb (589 D)
27 Aug 12 UTC
I guess I have a question for you, Zultar:

What did you think/ what were you thinking about England's moves in the 1906-1909 region? I wished they had been more aggressive, but as we both know, we have fairly different styles, so I'm curious what your thoughts were.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
27 Aug 12 UTC
There were a couple of seasons where I would not have moved the same way that Stressedlines did, particularly the moves to Clyde (twice in the game I think). I understand why he moved there, but I would have chosen to move it to MAO or NwS. At that point in 1906-1907, there was little reason to defend England proper and moving it to the front would have been more useful. I think an extra fleet near Den/Kiel might have allowed England to be more aggressive one year prior to the big stab in 1909. I don't know if I would have moved aggressively against France like I know you would have in 1906-1907. It would have to depend on what I thought France's motives and intentions were. I wouldn't have hesitated to stab France though since I didn't think he contributed much to England's progress.
I was actually hoping that my tutoree had been able to convince Russia to play for the solo because I think Austria would have given the game to England and not Russia.

As Germany's TA, why were you so offended by the disband of Finland Stressedlines?
smcbride1983 (517 D)

Kyle, I think he might have gone to Europe. But, can I ask you a question about how you mentored Germany?
KyleFC (917 D)
05 Sep 12 UTC
Who would have gone to Europe? I just think it's odd that he felt that way when Germany had both France and Austria beginning to move on Germany's southern front. It seemed like the most reasonable choice at the time.

Yeah, sure, what would you like to know?

"*Blank* Fundamentalism," "The Media," and Other Double Standards
When it's MSNBC/CNN/the BBC/ABC, etc, it's "The Media," always "out to get" the Right and praise the Left--but then, when it's FOX, it's "Fair and Balanced."
When it's "Atheist Fundamentalism" (someone who holds this view, please, tell me what you mean by it) it's to be stopped--but make them Christian Fundamentalists, and suddenly, apologists crop up everywhere...why the double standard?
