Who will win the Heisman?
Statistically, Griffin III should be a shoe-in.

Richardson would be the #2, but he isn't even in the top 5 in rushing this season.

Disturbing trend
I'm playing in a few anon games (well, more than a few), and I've noticed that the game has changed over the years. It got better for a long time, then towards the end if this year, something has happened that has taken some fun away.

What is the mods general opinion on the following subject?
One of our mods <*cough*>abgemacht<*cough*> has just stated that outside of the game deals (threats, bribes, etc.) aren't "a big deal" to him and he wouldn't do anything about them. I have a problem with this. What about the other mods? How do you all feel? Is this a tolerable activity?
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Dec 11 UTC
I ask, because it might be another source of income for me. I'll happily meta with other players for money. Biggest bidder gets me as an ally the whole game! I'll set up a paypal account and we'll start negotiations as soon as the game officially starts.
taos (281 D)
05 Dec 11 UTC
who will pay for that?
Draugnar (0 DX)

I don't know, but the subject came up and a few people said they were open to accepting and/or making bribes, so...

Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Dec 11 UTC
It's a points auction! Everyone jump in!

See, abgemacht, you've opened up a can of worms by saying you don't have a rpoblem with this.
taos (281 D)
05 Dec 11 UTC
so stop this nonsence acusations against mods
abgemacht is good mod and good player,he was only sharing you on what he thinks about it and i am sure was missunderstood
and if someone is stupid enougth to pay for a win let him lose his money cause he deserves it for beeing stupid
you cant buy experience so this buyer will have alot of points and lose it later to the big guys
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Dec 11 UTC
It's not an accusation. It's a condemntation of an attitude I don't think a mod should have and I will continue it if I so choose, taos. You can go sit and spin. I have my opinion and I have every fucking right to express it, asswipe.
its not a problem
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Dec 11 UTC
And it is easy to make certain the bribe is followed through on. there are escrow services that will work just fine. The money goes in the escrow along with a letter outlining the details of the deal. The escrow agent follows up and determines if the agreement was kept and either returns the money less his fee, or sends it on less his fee.
is this seriously being discussed?
Diplomat33 (243 D(B))
05 Dec 11 UTC
Yes :-) I would take money over points that have no real value whatsoever.
Geofram (130 D(B))
05 Dec 11 UTC
If someone emailed me telling me that a player received actual currency for giving up in-game currency, I'd virtually pat that player on the back. And then I'd deal with the rule breaking.

Entertain the idea all you want, but in the "grand scheme" it is still against the rules, if only the most stupid way to break them I've ever heard.

"While monetary rewards and personal threats are metagaming, I'm not convinced they're a big deal. As I said, they are empty promises. Even if they've done it before, there's no reason to think they'll do it again." -abgemacht

"One of our mods <*cough*>abgemacht<*cough*> has just stated that outside of the game deals (threats, bribes, etc.) aren't "a big deal" to him and he wouldn't do anything about them. " -Draugnar

Do you really think any mod is dumb enough to come into a thread and start a mod war?

(and, yes, Abge paid me money to say that) ;-)
Diplomat33 (243 D(B))
05 Dec 11 UTC
Yes, civil war might be fun. Take it out on the diplo board. All mod game. They can spy on one another.
fortknox (2059 D)
05 Dec 11 UTC
except for the fact that we can't spy on anyone in game. And it is coded that if we ARE in a game, we can't use our mod abilities in it (beside draw and cancel, I believe).
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
05 Dec 11 UTC
1) I've opened no can of worms. I believe in limited moderating, which means I'm not going to make a rule against something unless it proves to be a problem. Seeing as you are such a strong proponent of limited mod intervention, I'm surprised you're trying to strong-arm me into making more rules for the site. Like anything, if paying people becomes an issue, we'll put a stop to it. But I doubt it will, even after this little display.

2) What you're doing is inappropriate metagaming, because you're discussion alliances before a game even starts. Again, not a huge deal, because I don't think you'll follow through with this. But, if negotiation started before a game, there would be problems.

3) I'm not sure what the point of this thread was. We were having a civil discussion in the last thread and I was actively engaging you in conversation. You're acting like I'm making some sweeping changes to the site without consulting anyone. That isn't the case. Posts like this do not scare me; I'm confident in my reputation on this site. If anything, they just make you look foolish.
Diplomat33 (243 D(B))
05 Dec 11 UTC
THat is good then. That is why fasces said he couldn't mod his own games when he was in a game with me.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
05 Dec 11 UTC
From the original thread, since you clearly want to finish the conversation here:

"@abgemacht - I am *shocked* that you, a mod, would condone outside of the game deals. I'm tempted to ask Kestas and the other mods what they think of that view and to see if they want youto continue to be a mod with that particular view. It's no different than refusing to unpause because you are losing. *Shame* on you, abgemacht! Shame!"

I find this mod vs. community mentality to be very harmful. I'm not sure where it stems from, either. I value everyone's opinion on the site, regardless of their mod status. It makes me sad that I can't be part of a discussion without someone starting a campaign to remove my mod status. It doesn't have to be like that.

For the record, if you actually believe a mod is abusing their power, you should do something about it. The other mods will handle it. We are not the Catholic Church or Penn State Football. We don't let those in power abuse it. For instance, if I was using mod tools to cheat in my own games, or giving points to my friends, you absolutely should start a campaign against me. But, you think I should lose my mod status because of my wishy-washy opinion on a situation that has never happened before? Take a step back and think about that.

But, if this is what you want to spend your time doing, no one will stop you. You can't be banned for mudslinging the mods. But, I will defend myself against criticism.

And, if you are successful at getting the only active admin fired, I'm sure one of the other mods will thank you for the promotion : )

Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Dec 11 UTC
I don't want you fired, I just don't like the "it's not a big deal" attitude. When it comes from a mod, it is tacit approval to do the undesirable. You'd have been better to stay silent on that topic than chime in with a tacit approval.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
05 Dec 11 UTC
"You'd have been better to stay silent on that topic than chime in with a tacit approval."

People complain when the mods are silent, too, so it's a lose-lose situation.

I stand by my claim that it's not a big deal because there's no good way to follow through and I don't think people would be interested anyway. Go through escrow for a dip game? Seriously?

Plus, the problem really would solve itself. If you were known as a person who sold themself out, I bet you'd quickly be ostracized from the best games on the site.

Again, if it becomes a problem, we'll consider it. Until that time, it really isn't worth making a fuss over.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

"And, if you are successful at getting the only active admin fired, I'm sure one of the other mods will thank you for the promotion : )"

Indeed. One might even say I'd "pay" for it.

And, on the subject of threats, how the fuck else do you think i win games? I just do what phoney psychics do.

I collect personal info from conversations in games and in the forums. and then i make people think i know them in real life. and then i threaten their loved ones or property, and bam, solo on a silver platter.

it's really all too easy. i encourage this wholesome practice.

The mods do the best they can being understaffed and underpaid. It can be fun to rant on them sometimes but there is a limit and people often do not respect what they do for the site. And they are people too not dictators or overlords. They are taken from the best of the community and do all they can.

And yes, i was PAID to say that :-)

I have noticed that there tend to be a lot of games that have only public messaging or no messaging at all... I was wondering why people would even play this type of variation in the first place. it seems to me to be equal to playing a game of poker with only half a deck of cards...
