Firefox Forum Bug
This is the second time I've noticed this. Has anyone else gotten it?

When there is just one post on the newest page in a thread, my FF4 will not recognize that that page exists until that page has a second post.

No, not our beloved mod and keeper of the Ghost Ratings. But my Black Ghost Knife that I named after him. After a little over 2 years, some disease or condition has been attacking him the last few days and he is lying at the bottom of a "hospital" tank I setup, breathing heavily and listless. I don't even know if he is eating anything. I fear the end is near and yet nothing I can find on the web indicates what might be wrong. His coloring has faded, but he doesn't show any obvious signs of ich or any scrapes or other maladies and Mack, may Bala Shark and the only other resident in the tank, shows no signs of disease or illness. I'm at a loss and fear my friend may be gone soon...

Even if he were, rancher, he wouldn't be much to eat. Have you ever seen a knife fish? But no, he is only about 7 inches long. I've thought about putting some clove oil in the medical tank, then adding some vodka to put him to sleep. I just can't stand to see him suffer like this.

Hash brownies might work, just thinking this through ... I'm not really clear as to what knife fish are into, so maybe you're right about vodka

LOL. Vodka. So speciocentric. I don't know if vodka does the same thing to fish as it does to us.

Actually, the clover oil anesthetizes them, taking away their pain, and then the vodka causes them to just stop breathing as their gills can't absorb oxygen through the alcohol.

A few drops of clove oil emulsified and added to a gallon of water will put the fish under, then add 20-25% grain alcohol (vodka) to euthanize him.

Putting him in the freezer is also a humane way of ending it.

Just don't flush him.

I've thought about taking him to the lake out back where the water conditions are probably better than any aquarium and hoping that maybe he has a chance to recover. He's big enough that nothing in the lake would eat him and there are plenty of water reeds and cattails for him to hide amongst.

If he still lives when I get home, I think I will do that. Live or die, at least he'll have had a second chance. Oh, it is a man-made closed lake of 8-10 acres, so he won't be escaping to the river and mucking up the ecosystem if I do.

I find it hard to believe that a lake is in better condition than a controlled tank. The lake will be filled with bacteria and whatnot that he isn't used to. He'd be lucky to make it through the night if he isn't in good condition already.

Damn it, I was trying to make myself feel better. The lake's pH balance and ammonia/nitrates/nitrites and such should be better though. And the species is a cooler water species being found in the lake and river beds under water falls or where there is a strong current, not like your typical freshwater tropicals.

Sorry, just giving you my honest opinion. If you'd like to set him out in the lake so he can experience "freedom" before he goes, that would be nice. But that fish will die if you put it in a lake.

Also, does he have ich, or is it something else?

No, it isn't ich. No white spot, just sort of a faded coat over all - normally jet black with a distinctive white strip on the nose and white marking on the tail ( http://badmanstropicalfish.com/charts/tank_pics/lisaw1_blkghost.jpg is a good example) and extremely lethargic to the point of no longer swimming, just breathing, much like he would be if he were asleep only he never seems to wake up. At first I thought it was old age. He was a large fish of probably two when I got him so he is over 4 years old, but the references all say 8 to 10 is a common lifespan in a tank for them.

I can't wait to get a more permanent home so I can set up an aquarium again.

Fish are hard in that once they get sick, you can almost never get them well again. Too many variables that take too long to change. Plus, every time you change something, that's just another added stress to the fish.

Yeah, which is why I think letting him go in the lake is better for him. Even if it accelerates the end, it gives him a sense of freedom. I know, it's anthropomorphising him, but he and the Bala Shark have been my personal pets. The rabbits are the wifes, Sebie the Doxie is both of ours, but the fish are mine.

Leave it to the internet...

I post this yesterday after three days of him getting sicker and sicker and this morning he is out and about and swimming like a happy little fish. Must've been the fish flu. :-)

Glad I didn't let him go in the lake last night after all.

And no, there was no fin rot, Sayjo. He looks good as ever this morning. His color is back. He is swimming and breathing normally. The one primary difference is the medical tank has much better aeration and water movement. I'm going to keep him in it for a day or two more and buy a larger filtration system for the main tank so the water moves more. The Bala Shark won't mind the added movement and oxygenation.

@ Draug.. Glad to hear he recovered.. I seem to remember an ailment that tropical fish are susceptible to whereby a slimy film coats their body and they get very sedate, however it's been so long since I've kept fish (wow almost 15 years now? damn I'm old) that I can't remember what its called. Unfortunately I don't remember the treatement either and I didn't get anywhere with a quick internet search. Lucky for TheGhostmaker however, my poor memory and abysmal search engine skills were not needed..

Which CD is worse: Start, Mid or End Game?
I CDed first thing in a gunboat earlier today. My bad. Thanks to kind.of.slow for wiping me out so that 'Resign' tag on my profile stays at 1. I think the best time to CD is right out of the gates; at least the game can develop without any nasty surprises. I'm curious what the WebDip hive mind has to say on the topic.

How Not to form a Gunboat Stalemate Line
