This is the second time I've noticed this. Has anyone else gotten it?

When there is just one post on the newest page in a thread, my FF4 will not recognize that that page exists until that page has a second post.

Ankara Crescent anyone?
So many threads lately have been dark and angry... How about we all lighten up with a game of Ankara Crescent? Standard map and the '46 revisions, if you don't mind.

Although I know this will devolve into communist/capitalist "debate" (ranting), i just want to know if you think this is an accurate representation of what happened. (with the exception of tetris blocks everywhere)

Which CD is worse: Start, Mid or End Game?
I CDed first thing in a gunboat earlier today. My bad. Thanks to kind.of.slow for wiping me out so that 'Resign' tag on my profile stays at 1. I think the best time to CD is right out of the gates; at least the game can develop without any nasty surprises. I'm curious what the WebDip hive mind has to say on the topic.

The UN prosecutor for Balkan war crimes speaks outside The Hague about the tribunal staff after the arrest of Ratko Mladic...

"Their efforts are specially impressive given that we are working in the shadow of the tribunal's completion strategy and the resulting lack of job security for our staff"

How Not to form a Gunboat Stalemate Line
Maybe it's a good teaching point, maybe it's sour grapes after putting in three hours in what was a solid gunboat. At anyrate, gameID=60516 has an endgame that some of you might have to see to believe.

Um...you gave the game to Russia. Rather poor play, imho.
That's not even close to a good game.

You seriously just came on the forum to brag that you gave Russia the win so you could kill the little people. Just wow.

Yep, i'm bragging and proud of this game. Made a few mistakes so I couldn't win it, but it is nice to be second. What I like about the game is that we whipped the board clean of 4 opponents in the last year. something I haven't seen before!

But maybe i'm just the noob that still needs a beating from some experienced players ;-D

No offense, but I hate players like you. Playing for a strong second, when you could have stopped the solo, is weak play imho, and should not be rewarded.

And this is why PPSC is a bad thing, it rewards this kind of play.
I would like to quote Will Ferrell here and say "If you're not first, you're last." Very appropriate with this game. If you can't win, draw. Survives are failures.

Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

By the way, when Will Ferell be funny?
You intentionally cleaned out the gun cabinet of anything to shoot the Bear...
It would be strange if a game called "noob's heaven" turns out to be the best on the site...

That said, we shouldn't chastise sgt_brennus too much. One of the cool things about diplomacy (especially Face-to-face, but ppsc in lesser amount) is that different players can have different goals. It was his goal to eliminate as many players as possible, and obtain a strong finish. In that respect, he has succeeded, so congratulations are in order.

What you should take away from this thread, sargeant, is that ppsc and wta are very different types of play. I strongly recommend you to play a WTA game (at least to try it out). The endgame is so much more intricate and fun.

Guys,

Reading back the comments, i shouldent be bragging about this game. I just started playing (web)diplomacy and this was even the first time i played france and enjoyed the end-game.

As I said before I made a couple (2) mistakes that cost me victory. Looking back it were rookie mistakes.
1 - I misinterpered a fleet as russia instead of england. cost me the momentum in england.
2 - I didn't minded the retreat from italy which hampered my attempt on turkey.

You always play to win but aim for the best (at least in this game form), in my case it was second after these mistakes.

I sure will try my hand on other forms, but I just got 6 games under my belt and haven't played all the coutries yet.

and to put a nice quote on the forum as everybody is doing:"second place is the first loser..."
Kingdroid (219 D)

Your mistake was not seeing that Russia had an easy win on his hands, and letting him win it.
But actually, bas is right. We are chastising him a bit too much. He is new, and I think he's got the lesson already that draws are better than survives. That said, thinking back to my first couple of games, I would've been content with that type of outcome. I was murdered as my first couple of games as France, so I think we should scale it back a little

Win>draw>survive>defeat
Technicaly you had the 2nd worst outcome possible... Nothing to brag about...

If you worked with the opponents that you claim to have eliminated... you could have got a good draw... that would be better.
By the way... try to play WTA and you might change your way of thinking about a GOOD game...
