Support move Question
If a unit is going to attack my army, with support, can I 'move' to the supporting unit (in this case sweden) to block the move/support move? Will doing this thwart a move into my territory since I have tried and failed to take the unit he was supporting the move from, causing me to still be in my land (norway)?
Does that work? Or make sense?

The case of Dominique Strauss-Kahn: Or, how I turned into Sicarius
This has the stench of a set-up, and a rather disgusting one - using rape.

Diplomacy Pod Cast
http://diplomacycast.com/

Eric Mead and Nathan Barnes have set up a site for pod casts on Diplomacy play. They just interviewed me on the play of Italy in the third segment. (I think my interview starts a little more than half way through the podcast).

Playing Italy... does anyone have issues playing Italy?
Check out this link that Edi Brison shared:
http://diplomacycast.com/files/other/DiplomacyCastEp3.mp3

start around minute 20 for a great conversation and detailed explanation of how to play well with Italy. Much of this will be boring for experienced players, but newer players or early to mid-level players should listen to improve their games dramatically.

Orders Not Being Recieved . . . .
Are any other players experiencing issues where orders after end of turn ARE NOT correlating with the orders you submitted? A couple of other players are saying “that’s not the orders I submitted” in more than one game and now I’ve experienced the same thing. I have 75+ games on this site under my belt and previously have calked up the incident as player error but this seems utterly peculiar to have actually been submitted under any circumstances.
Well, they could be lying, they could have cookie problems etc...
I myself have had an issue with saving an order, changing it, then clicking ready once or twice (it would enact the saved order) but that would be something to do with my comp rather than the network.
I have these issues pretty frequently, but invariably they're because when I go to enter them, I read the first letter and click the wrong province (as France, in Picardy, for instance, attacking Burgundy instead of Belgium) because I enter orders quickly.

I misorder all the time. It is *possible that there is a bug, but it is more probable that I am a clumsy git.

*possible: that is, from my perspective as I am ignorant of programming technicalities, but I think Kestas has stated many times that this sort of bug is impossible, and I accept that he knows what he is talking about.
From the site FAQ:
"Question: I didn't enter those orders!
Answer: Occasionally we get this complaint, but every time we have checked the input logs to see what order was actually entered it turns out to be the mistaken order. Also the mistaken orders are often the 'Bulgaria'/'Budapest' sort of mistake which are easier to imagine human error than a bug.

Try finalizing your orders and then checking them over, so you can be sure of what you entered."

When someone tells you their orders came out differently then what they put in, they're probably lying. Even worse, they're not even good liars, because it's a flimsy excuse.

@Spy - Its me who comments on it. For the *wrong* orders to be submitted would require an incredibly unlikely series of events (ie wont), but no orders received is slightly more likely. This can occur if the server is overloaded when you try to save your orders (ie the AJAX call hits a 500 error). Still unlikely, but certainly not impossible, so make sure your orders have saved.

I misorder relatively frequently. The reason is that I have a mouse with a central roller ball in addition to left and right buttons. I use the rollerball to scroll up and down webpages. Unfortunately, if you have a drop box selected (like the order box), that scrolls you up and down the possible provinces. Worse, when you hit the top of the province box, then it moves you up the page, so I dont actually realize that there was a problem becuase the scroll function seems to work. If there were any way to lock this, that would be lovely.

But I agree with the consensus that its highly unlikely to be a programming bug, and more likely to be a either a weak excuse or a legitimate human error.

ditto mrlentz.. just did this last night actually and screwed myself over in a game.. switch a support hold order to a hold order and lost a key territory... :(

mrlentz and lief: try getting in the habit of clicking on the background of the page after selecting the order. I believe in most browsers that should remove mouse focus from the drop down box. Then you'll be free to use the mouse wheel without messing up your orders. Also, get in the habit of double checking your orders before you hit ready. Once you orders are readied, they cannot be accidentally changed since any edits requires you to unready first.

To all: By the way...
1) Claiming that you mis-entered orders is a valid diplomatic tactic. You are allowed to lie claiming that you made a mistake.
2) However, falsely claiming that the website made an error is against the rules since it creates unnecessary work for the developers to track down bugs that aren't there. Also, such lies are usually less believable.

At what point does a game become officially drawn, even if one of the parties has not voted that way. Is there a way to "force" a draw? (with a moderator's help perhaps?)

Provocatively Ignorant Political Thread Title With Unnecessary Question Mark?
Tired and morally objectionable claim made in the thin veil of a poorly-worded question? Mention of pseudo-scientific evidence and popularity of ignorant belief, segueing into totally absurd conclusion about the world which I seek to defend at length because I've already made up my mind. What do you think?

Anyone here tried the puzzles there?
My friends been doing them this last year, and unfrotuantely today I made this mistake of trying some. The first few pages aren't hard, but as with any programming task they really eat away at free (/revision) time!
