Technical Issues in World Diplomacy Game
In http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=47406 it appears that the convoy feature is broken. Of the 4 players left in the game, 3 of us encounter errors when we try to submit orders to convoy a unit and are unable to access the feature.

Is there a way to repair this without breaking the game?

Explain why these moves work
Germany: F Sweden to Norway, A STP S F Sweden to Norway, F GoB to Sweden.
England: F Norway to Sweden (fail) (dislodged)

There was other stuff happening too, but the relevant question is: why did GoB succeed in getting to Sweden if Norway was going there too?

Jumbo and Memilio BANNED
Thank you, finally! I had seen this coming ages ago and avoided his games. Trip and I had had a good private discussion about this one. He has just, presumably also been banned from a 200 D game, he was clearly building up points with Memilio, his other account.

Cheater!
frankfitzer in gameID=105443 is quite obviously cheating!
I would like this game cancelled and frankfitzer banned along with all those who do not follow the rules of the game and the site forum!

It is terrible that someone would register at this site and not follow forum and game rules, they just ruin the experience for everyone!

The Prince
Quotations taken from gradesaver.com....

Our friend Niccolo M. says that there are two possible power bases for a prince: the nobility, and the common people. But he goes on to say the following: “In fact the aim of the common people is more honest than that of the nobles, since the nobles want to oppress others, while the people simply want not to be oppressed.”

Cheaters are Pathetic
Pathetic and illogical, but mostly just pathetic.
The only shame is that they waste the time of the rest of the community.

A solution was once proposed in the form of making new players read the site rules when they joined the site, but it wasn't taken up.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
14 Mar 11 UTC
That is a good idea. They could be asked to read the site rules and then be asked to click an "I accept" tab before they become a member?
Draugnar (0 DX)

I think wea lla gree that is a great idea, but we need to get it porgrammed and Kestas to approve it and release it.

Before we do that I still think the rules themselves need to be looked at. No use in shoving someone in front of everyones' faces if that something isn't the way you want it to be. Should we start a new thread or keep this one? I would vote for a new thread since it will be cleaner and have a more appropriate title.

New thread vote here as well. Of course, rules changes require the mods and Kestas's backing, but lets discuss them and come to a decision we can all get behind and presnt it to the management.
yebellz (729 D(G))

Wow, I didn't expect this thread to get quite so much attention. I really just meant it as a random rant.

I've been watching the discussion. It has certainly gotten a bit silly at times. I think it's best if we all just try to keep a cool head and discuss this issue with civility.

However, I thought I should respond with a few points:
1) I don't get overly worked up about cheaters, but I do believe that the quality of the community benefits if we all do our best to remove them. There is certainly value in making the games more fun and preventing people from wasting their time.

2) I don't see the efforts of occasionally observing and reporting blatant cheating to be a waste of time or (paraphrasing what has been said by a replier) accomplishing even less than those who cheat. I'm simply doing my part in attempting to improve the quality of the community and I hope that other people would try to do the same in a reasonable fashion.

3) Some repliers seem to be jaded by having seen baseless cheating accusations that have been posted on the forum. I think that it is highly inappropriate to make accusations on the forum and I have never done so.

4) The cases that I have personally brought to the attention of the mods happen to be situations where I have been an impartial observer to blatant multi-account cheating. This is the case for all of the reports that I have sent to the mods.

kislikd: what rules in particular do you think should be reconsidered?
Draugnar (0 DX)
14 Mar 11 UTC
I can't say I have been "an impartial observer" in every case as I was in some of them games which, by definition, means I'm not impartial, but I have done my best to not let emotion get to me and accuse just because of a set of moves. One of the times involved a player who created a new account with a similar name to take over a CD. It was an obvious case and the mods did ban the new account. The player then promptly CDed himself. But I tend to only report anything if it is beyond obvious.

ybellz, I don't have the time to right now, but I'll start a new thread to begin the debate, and I'll post the issues I come up with. Forgive me now, it's going to be a long and dense read :P

I agree that cheaters are pathetic. I've noticed, and mentioned, some alarming trends in here and although I made the mistake of calling out a player in the forum, I've taken to calling them out in PM's to them directly. As a result, I've received some interesting responses. One respondant, in particular, stated that he and the two other players whom he always seems to play with in GB games, play via laptop in the same room. I tied to inform him that communication of any kind is against the rules in a GB game, and that their moves were far too coordinated to be without such. He replied, "that's one interpretation." I think a very clear and succinct delineation of what CANNOT be done need to be more prominently posted. Obviously, communicating with other players via IM, phone, or talking (if in the same room) isn't appropriate in GB games. But, another trend that I've noticed is players who, in press games, refuse to communicate with the internal system, yet are obviously communicated and coordinated via other means with other players. Again, I don't feel that this is no in the spirit of the game. The is nothing wrong with choosing to communicate with one player and not another, but going outside the system to do so seems wrong to me.

I've never understood why people feel the need to cheat at something which you gain nothing from -- cheat at blackjack where you can win money, not for worthless points.

One thought I had was doing away with ANON games, that way, players will have a much harder time hiding their bedfellows, and others would be able to avoid those players and eventually they'd either stop cheating, or leave the site for want of games.
yebellz (729 D(G))
15 Mar 11 UTC
@MichiganMan: getting rid of anon won't absolutely prevent cheating. cheaters could also just join a non-anon game after others have already joined, and not everyone is on top of checking out profiles to look for suspicious behavior. anyways, after a game is over, everyone can see who was playing. cheaters do still play non-anon games.

also, it's always an option for any player to avoid anon games if they want to avoid cheating.

also, anon is also a good feature for preventing certain types of behavior, i.e., communication during a gunboat, meta based on personal preference. when it comes to games, i am a "clean-slate purist": i believe that people should go into games without any personal biases for their opponents based on their past history and record. anon makes that possible. this allows players to try out different styles of play and avoid falling into certain labels.
