Slow and Steady (3day-turns, WTA, 50 pts)
This will be my first game start here, if I can actually get it started. I realize 3-day turns are a bit slow for you serious addicts, but think of all the chatting and intrigue you can get done!

Paying someone to stab
In a game I played (gameID=38537), after a lot of profanity, Russia offered everybody else on the global to stab me for money. Nobody has taken him seriously (I hope - although I was the last player to be eliminated by a 2-way draw), but this really bothers me. How would you react? What do you think about this act?
Crazyter (1335 D(G))

Mods should be told. Sounds like cheating to me.
ava2790 (232 D(S))

Haha trust krellin to do something like that
groza528 (518 D)
22 Nov 10 UTC
It's certainly cheating if someone accepts, under the "no moves for reasons outside of the game" clause but I wouldn't think a whole lot of the offer myself.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

If he was serious, that would be meta-gaming, as indicated by groza. If he was just being silly, then haha.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

I mean like... until someone actually acts on his words with the assumption they will be paid, then it's illegal.

Unless he was lying all along???? Hm... no. It's still unacceptable. It's like saying "If you don't give me Spain I'll break your pinkie" even if you're not going to that's not okay.

However if they do not actually acquiesce, then that's another matter. Hm.

Yeah I'd say if he was being serious he should be banned. Of course, he will say he was not being serious, so what're you gonna do lol.
fiedler (1293 D)

take his money then stab him. this is diplomacy isn't it?
Draugnar (0 DX)
22 Nov 10 UTC
I'd demand the money wired direct ot my account. Then I'd take the cheat down.

we're all assuming he meant stab on the board, and not through the ribs with a rusty blade?

Surely he was joking
Jamiet99uk (808 D)

Ban him.

If any of the players in the game took the offer seriously, or suspected that another player would, and modified even a single order in response, then this represents illegal metagaming and even if krellin was only "joking", he should be banned.

Has anyone reported this to the mods?
ava2790 (232 D(S))

Haha there are far worse things krellin's done to get banned.
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)

Kill him off then accept a four or five way draw. It will drive him *nuts*
Baskineli (100 D(B))

I have reported it a long time ago, and the reply I got was "I don't know what to do with it".
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
22 Nov 10 UTC
This was a GFDT game and the issue was brought to my attention. To be fair, I offered a more thorough explanation than "I don't know what to do with it".

After looking at the press, I determined that there was no cheating involved. Rather, this was a case of a player with a bad attitude. As I explained to the OP, it is a shame when people act like children, but, like the mods, I will not be playing the role of kindergarten cop.
stratagos (3269 D(S))

I find the information that this was a League game to be highly amusing, as - had the dubious pleasure of his company in a game I volunteered to sub in - and his poor understanding of strategy, tactics, and interaction with your neighbors resulted in him turning a four way draw into a solo... for someone else.

The best part from my point of view was watching him go from 8 SCs to 4 in the final year.

If I recall he claimed a moral victory for refusing a larger draw... which I guess is the only victory he can get, with a combined loss/survived statistic in the 90% range.

That's just one of the things about playing with real people: sometimes they're just going to act like idiots, and there isn't a lot you can do about it, except hope the idiocy is directed elsewhere

The role of kindergadten cop is a difficult one.

I'm sure i'd like to be able to define a kindergarten group of players who i didn't play with, but that would just be self-reinforcing negative player attitude.

On the other hand, you're supposed to be allowed to say whatever you like in diplomacy. In face-to-face games i've often offer pizza slices for support (cause i made the pizza) now i was mostly joking, but face-to-face diplomacy has a history or doing whatever you want to gain the advantage, female players flirting with their opponents, 'flying dutchman' units appearing on the board (which is cheating, but of the encouraged type)

nothing you can 'say' is from outside the game, thus threatening to break someone's pinky, while cruel and unusual should be allowed. Breaking someone's pinky should not.

I don't know how much i approve of what i've said above but i'm making the case never-the-less. I'm sure i could be convinced otherwise...

True story. As I mentioned to MadMarx in another thread, one time an ally of mine kept buying his neighbor drinks so that he would be a mutual ally at first, and then be too loaded to notice the stab later on...things like these are done ftf. But in ftf metagaming is a huge possibility (in some cases an inevitability). On the other hand, since it's against the rules of the site then we need to get into the issues of...is what krelling did considered metagaming, etc.

I'm not too bothered by the specifics. But it's krellin. He's been talking trash since day one.
Draugnar (0 DX)
22 Nov 10 UTC
krellin is as krellin does. krellin talks trash because he is ineffectual and couldn't deliver a smackdown in Dip if his life depended on it. Banning him for what was obviously a frustrated and pathetic attempt to show his anger and contempt (of which he has way to much) is probably a bit much. No one, I'm sure, took him seriously as he'd never pay anyhow. But an official reprimand and warning to not cross that metagaming line might be in order.

Stabbed Woes
What is your best method to relieve stress when you log on, and find that your good friends have mercilessly stabbed you. My previous method involved drinking my woes away, kicking the dog, and beating my children, but they're starting to tell their friends. Should I just move onto my wife?

What do YOU do to vent your anger?

Is fighting terrorism with extra security good value for money?
In the last 10 years there has only been 1 major terrorist attack on North American soil. - death toll about 3-4 thousand. Is the money spent on stopping further attacks worth it?

The Greatest World Leader of All-Time (And I'm ALREADY Sick of William+Kate! GAH!)
Pretty simple--if you had to choose any past or present world leader to lead your nation--or a new one like, say, Freedonia...Hail, Hail Freedonia!--who would it be? What Kings, Queens, Emperors and Emissaries, Prime Ministers and Presidents have been the greatest in history, and who would you want to LIVE under? We look at the best of the best here (and off-topic, as much as I like the Royal Family in England generally...STOP IT, US NEWS, I DON'T CARE ABOUT A WEDDING YEARS OFF NOW!!!)

How about Syracuse NY for NE gathering
Just looking for a good place for a meeting, what about Syracuse NY as it is fairly central to Ontario and NE US. It is on the junction of I-90 and I-81 and is fairly close for us Canadians.
