The games I have played recently have only allowed me to build on my 3 starting sc's is this part of the game or is it some sort of glitch?

Most and least destabilizing early CDs?
No Civil Disorder is good, but they seem not to be created equally. CDs by which countries are most likely to kill a game outright? Which can be reasonably successfully incorporated into ongoing diplomatic exchanges?

England needed
We need a replacement player for England in gameID=41423.
You would have 3 SCs left. Not in a great position, but still playable.

This is the 3rd cd there will have been, and it should have been cancelled, even drawn a long time ago but Germany was being a twat and didn't and now Turkey and Italy have withdrawn those votes cos they think they have a chance of winning- fucking pointless selfish petty and worthless, just cancel or draw that shit

Another Ebay Challenge game!
Yes that's right. I'm looking to start another high caliber, high stakes, password protected, Anon game. So, if you've played in one of my games before, missed one before, played me at some other time or would just like to play a good game then post interest here. Once I have 7 players I'll create the game. I'll be looking for the best players possible so it's not first come first serve.

marvelous backstab
I was Persia and I was allied with Greece who left his back totally vulnerable. I stole from him 4 sc with one single stab, lol:

@ava2790 - how did you bet 10 and win 420 in that game? Probably super secret awesomeness backstabbing points I am guessing, but just wondering ...
ava2790 (232 D(S))
12 Nov 10 UTC
If I recall, I didn't win 420...I won 32.
Ooh, aah. What, are we supposed to get on our knees or something? Seriously, any amount of 'coolness' in that stab just got negated by bragging about it. That's not even remotely spectacular...
ava2790 (232 D(S))
12 Nov 10 UTC
I just put it out there to say that his wasn't even remotely close to the best on this site. Not that mine was the best one. It's just the first one that came to mind.
Rancher (1652 D(S))
12 Nov 10 UTC
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4910

but it does say you won 420 for it, so you're plenty up on Kev_nst "irregardless" of coolness ... that is, if we're still doing points around here
podium (498 D)
12 Nov 10 UTC
Have to agree with rancher here ava it does say bet 10 and won 420.Do you have some kind of secret powers or investment advice that can yield that kind of return if so please share. As I will only play small pots from now one with the hopes of winning the lottery.
@podium: Check the overall pot. 70 D. There's an extra zero in each payout.
ava2790 (232 D(S))

Ok guys you got me. I hacked the server.
Kev_nst (998 D)
12 Nov 10 UTC
the point is to have some fun, laugh at stabs, be amused by stupid moves. not to compare 'coolness'. and it is fun to see what ava2790 did. and there are many more. so, go ahead and post a crazy move for everybody to enjoy. that's why a posted it. diplomacy is a game to enjoy after all.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Wow you guys are very mean :_(
figlesquidge (2131 D)
12 Nov 10 UTC
Who's mean?

Kev is laughing at someone for loosing, I and others have pointed out that that's not being a good winner.
Kev_nst (998 D)
12 Nov 10 UTC
Again, let me clarify, I'm not laughing at anybody. When you play, you think hard and come up with smart moves. Often with stupid ones, and rarely with crazy ones which turn either real good or real bad. And I think one has to enjoy them, enjoy the game no matter what the outcome. That is it, I wanted to share a move as I'm sure there are many more out there which will surprise us given the very simple nature of the rules of diplomacy.
Nice backtrack... considering there was absolutely no mention of anyone else sharing moves, I tend to suspect that wasn't the initial intention. ;P
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
12 Nov 10 UTC
@ Kev_nst: You may or may not be laughing at anybody, but you're certainly being boastful and self-congratulatory.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
12 Nov 10 UTC
@Kev: "I stole from him 4 sc with one single stab, lol"
You are laughing/showing off that you stabbed him, which in turn means you are laughing/showing off that he didn't pick up on the fact you were going to stab him, and thus you are laughing at him for not being as good as you on that occasion.

Actually, I have no idea if it is accurate or not. Fully granting I don't exactly attempt to write elegant prose here, I have no way to judge if what someone else writes is also the best they can bring to the table.

Obviously, 'knows' is not the correct word, and that sentence does not convey expertise in written communication - but it was not meant to.

I also never use "lol" outside of instant messaging, and only if I am literally laughing out loud. As shorthand, I feel it is grossly abused, but I'm a business guy, not a language geek, so the casual butchery of the language doesn't really bother me. Annoy, sure, but I also get annoyed by *so many things* on this site that it would be hard to single one out ;)

Hirsute (161 D)

I don't see why anyone would brag about violating an alliance based on mutual trust. Obviously the worst stabs are going to be against people who you've convinced to trust you completely. These stabs are not against stupid people, but are probably against people who are trusting and believe in good sportsmanship. If another player trusts you enough to expose that many SCs then they were probably playing for a 2-way draw. A 2 way draw as result of a great alliance should be just as satisfying as any solo victory - unless you have no sense of good sportsmanship.
Ebay (966 D)
12 Nov 10 UTC
What? Bah! I think that's just ridiculous. Anyone who leaves themselves that exposed deserves to be stabbed. It's just bad play.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

Regarding the points in ava's old game, that is just how older games show up. Other older games show the same thing. For example: gameID=4908 or even gameID=46.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
13 Nov 10 UTC
@ Hirsute: " A 2 way draw as result of a great alliance should be just as satisfying as any solo victory - unless you have no sense of good sportsmanship."

Rubbish. Absolute fucking bullshit. The game of Diplomacy is all about treachery. If you don't have the guts to backstab a trusting ally occasionally, you'll never be a great player.

Abgemacht!
Quantum mechanics question: could you explain to me "quantum suicide" in a little detail? You mentioned it a while back, and the assumption seemed to be that once an observer is observing, he will always do so in his own set of universes. Does that mean (according to the theory) there will always be some universes out there, for each observer, where a particular observer has never died?

How about a waiting list for members wishing to join "live" games
Would it be possible to have a statistics list for those who are logged on who are for example waiting for a live gunboat game. Too many times I have set up a new game but only to fail because I could not get to the required 7 people.
