So what's all this talk about league play?
I've been skimming through some forum topics about leagues here on webdiplomacy. I signed up for a newbie league about a month ago, but I passed the maximum points threshold and I don't really feel up to tanking to get back under. =P For those familiar, can I get some info?

classy games.......
Don't you love it when there are three inactive players in a game, two of them basically huge superpowers and the rest of the game refuses to draw.

Add to that the fact no one in the game readys up, ever.

Gunboat diplomacy
I want to know how i can signal alliances in Gunboat games. Like how does Turkey ally with italy or Turkey ally with Austria. And how does France give alliance to Germany. Basically I want you to tell me the best way to signal all alliances that can be made early in the game

Should all foreign forces be withdrawn from Afghanistan?
I am intrigued by the defence to the vacuum argument here,

and the thorny problem of how to include the foreign parts of the Taliban etc in such a move.

Wow. I've discovered the worst diplomacy player ever.
Italy in gameID=32920.

And astonishingly enough, England was giving him a run for his money.

And I know it's still technically ongoing, but it doesn't matter at this point.
ava2790 (232 D(S))
05 Jul 10 UTC
I think it does. Your commentary on an ongoing gunboat that you are in puts you once again in exactly the attire of those you are complaining against (in this case, bad diplomats). Actually, I don't think it's evident what you're talking about. I don't think you understand communication in gunboats at all.

Now you're just trolling ava.

Talk about glass houses and stones. Sheesh.
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
Look at the moves ava. Instead of helping set up a stalemate, Italy just hands the solo to Austria when Austria stabs him. And instead of helping me set up the stalemate, England decides he'd rather let Austria solo in a WTA game just so he can have the satisfaction of eliminating Italy. Truly, I sympathized with his anger at Italy, but we still had a chance despite Italy's lack of any sense whatsoever.

Who are you calling the worst gunboat player ever?
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
I fully admit I troll sometimes. I troll threads I don't respect. But to honestly argue that Italy's moves were good tactics is just stupidity, and everyone knows it.

killer - WE COULD HAVE SET UP THE STALEMATE. WE WERE SOOOOOO CLOSE!!!!
ava2790 (232 D(S))

And this couldn't have waited until the end of the game because?
killer135 (100 D)
05 Jul 10 UTC
Rlumley, I fail to see how I could have stopped Austria. All I could do was not stab you and try to stop him anywhere i could. I couldn't stop him completely though.
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
It was already the end of the game. The outcome was certain.
killer135 (100 D)
05 Jul 10 UTC
I did all I could, I couldn't stop him in taking Marseilles, I tried to support you there but you weren't moving there
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
It would have been difficult (and admittedly hard to see), but it was possible on a number of occasions. If in Spring 1913 you had moved to Mars was the only way to do it at that point. You must have known your support would be cut...

And Autumn 1912 made NO sense to me...
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
I supported you to Mars that turn because I knew your support would be cut. All you had to do was bounce him out of spain and move into Mars from spain. Boom. Stalemate.
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
And why did you take spain in 1912? I would have moved to NA to try and get units on the stalemate line...
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
(By the way ava, if you can argue logically for any of these moves and think my complaints are invalid, I invite you to chime in...)
killer135 (100 D)

I took spain so I could take portugal and hold Iberia. I tried to stop Austria but he played alright in the end. Ava, Rlumley is a good player and an epic campaigner
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
Do you have any answers to my questions killer? XD
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
I guess you did answer one of them.

Iberia is irrelevant though. It's past the stalemate line. Getting to 18 is all that matters, and in order to do that, we needed the Mars/GoL/WM/NA stalemate line. And we could have had it, but for some reason you retreated instead of advancing to it...
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
*And in order to stop that.
killer135 (100 D)
05 Jul 10 UTC
If i would have known you supported me to Marseilles I would have moved there. Western med was impossible to hold so I backed out to get a better position where he couldn't get through
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
I guess my point is that you should have seen that that was the only way of stopping him. Admittedly, it was hard to see, and it was tactical genius on my part, but it was quite literally our only option.
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
If you had moved to NA in 1911 you might have had a chance at holding WM. Especially if you eventually took Spain with a fleet.
killer135 (100 D)
05 Jul 10 UTC
Well it sucks that we couldn't stop him because of a bad Italy. if he had tried to stop Austria we might have had a better chance.
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
Yeah. That pissed me off to no end. I was frustrated at you for not seeing what I saw, but ultimately, it's understandable why you didn't.

But it baffles me as to why you didn't at least try for the stalemate, even if you would have been pushed back. It might have delayed him long enough to where we could have figured out how to hold Mars.

At any rate, it doesn't bother me so much if you've learned from it and will see the move to Mars next time. :-)

But I will say that I'm glad that at least he didn't get a survive. That's some small solace.
killer135 (100 D)
05 Jul 10 UTC
next time I am playing a gunboat and I support a unit and it doesn't move I will bring up the big map to see why. There were a couple times where I thought you were going to stab but I realized Italy was a bigger enemy and then Austria became the bigger enemy. i thought you were going to lose though but you managed to hold out. If it wasn't a WTA I doubt you would have been so lucky
rlumley (0 DX)
05 Jul 10 UTC
If it wasn't a WTA I wouldn't have been in the game.
