Really? Are you a girl and heterosexual? I mean that in serious way. To call her "boyish" looking would be a kind way of phrasing it. I've personally never thought of her as having "nice" skin. But that seemed to be the point of the add. I mean I've noticed Isabelle Adjani's skin before.

Trying to appeal to the male rationale: Maybe there are women who would want to appeal to Portia DeRossi, regardless of orientation, vanity is a funny thing.

More reasonably (From an advertisement POV): getting Ellen's line might make you a powerful woman. Its faulty logic, of course, but all advertising is based on showing you something shiny and giving you a reason to want it, even if it makes no sense.

Thirdly: Regardless of what Ellen looks like (because really, we spend too much time thinking about looks anyway), she's proven to have a level of intelligence and integrity that might lead some to say "Well, if she backs it, she must know what she's talking about."

Ellen Degeneres is pretty and charming and funny (unlike most spokesmodels for such products). ...and my completely hetero and very pretty wife loves those ads. No whether liking an ad means that you'll buy the product is another thing.

I just remember, during the Anne Heche phase, a friend of mine while predicting that Anne Heche was going to have a crazy re-conversion once she achieved personal fame. But the most memorable part of his rant was that Heche was not really a homosexual because he did not associate sleeping with Ellen DeGeneres with a sexual attraction to women. In all of his rant's un-PC glory, it all played out exactly as he said it would.

@gopher27, this last post about Anne Heche suggests to me that this thread really is about lesbians in general (particularly your opinion of them) rather than advertising or Ellen. Please clarify. As far as my opinion... only Anne Heche knows her sexuality... and being bisexual - or being heterosexual but willing to overlook the mechanics of the situation when you fall in love with someone (or being homosexual but willing to overlook, etc.) - each of these approaches seem valid enough.

So, we have determined that Yakoska is, in fact, a troll. Not a troll as in a lurker of the internet bent on raising hell in forums, but is a truly hideous looking creature - which is why he claims we focus on looks too much.

Perhaps Covergirl Ellen is in fact going after that niche market of homosexual males that like to wear make-up, but who have are in fact latent heterosexuals, and thus have some strange unexplainable draw to the female, Ellen, who looks so much like the man they want to be...

Yes...yes we are. All in good fun, I hope you know Yakoska. But...seriously...looks don't matter? I must disagree. I think looks matter to most people whether they admit it or not...but I also believe that people tend to be realistic and shoot for their equivalent....ghouls for ghouls, good looking for good looking, etc. it's so rare to see a true troglodyte with a babe o his arm...unless there is a significant estate overshadowing the gruesome appearance.

And I say this after spending a eye-gouging couple of hours on the beach today. I think my retina's are damaged, but it has nothing to do with the sun.

Well, we are not so removed from lesser animals that there isn't an element of "what's good for the species" in our decisions. What I am referring to, is the importance. In today's environment, intelligence, and arguably other factors should count for at least as much as symmetrical features, child bearing hips, etc.

@dexter morgan....No, contempt for Anne Heche as a psycho witch and fame hungry starfucker is a truly natural reaction in my opinion. SNL made more or less the exact same comment in their mocking of her a little bit after my friends particular rant. And completely unrelated to lesbianism. And the concept of lipstick lesbianism exists precisely because of what I'm saying about Ellen DeGeneres. She is a rather boyish looking woman who for all of her "charm", "integrity" or "intelligence" is not generally associated with girly-ness, vanity, skin care or make up.

Generally people choose brands that either reinforce their own image of themselves or what they aspire to in some way. So, Ellen DeGeneres' "charm", "integrity" & "intelligence" are very important when a person makes a purchase decision. That she is a lesbian makes her an interesting choice to front a make-up range but I would be surprised if the manufacturers are focused only on that group.

As long as I can beat you at diplomacy, it is immaterial whether I am a girl and heterosexual.
