ConfusedI'm
I'm new here and I'm a bit confused.
When a new turn begins do all the territories you've moved in to without resistance automatically become yours?

Ok, how does this work?

Russia has only one unit and yet it captures two centers! Better be quick in checking this, they're doing their turn soon!

There's the haiku variant. :D
You mean new maps, or new variants of the classic map?

i want to try one were the 1st year there is no conflict or moving armies outside of your coloured coded territories, maybe allow fleets may move to seas? independent nations may not be moved to. its just to allow everyone to rearrange their units to their licking re their strategic aims for the game. from spring year 2 the game proceeds as usual.

any map really after the Russian Civil War I flat out ran out of ideas

are you actually makign these maps? cause iwant a map of north america alaska down to panama
denis (864 D)

What civil war was that based on 1918? Let me say not accurate
cteno4 (100 D)

North America might actually work well, given the presence of waterway invaginations (Hudson/James Bays; Gulf of Mexico, Gulf of St. Lawrence).

I could see it being done on the eve of the American Civil War. Powers could be Canada (at that time, literally the occupied portions of Ontario and Quebec), the Union, the Confederacy, Oregon Country, Alaska, and Mexico.

I'm not sure how that map would end up balancing, given how remote Alaska would be and how the Union and the Confederacy would each be sandwiched between more "corner" powers, but that's really just a matter of how you decide to draw out your maps.
cteno4 (100 D)
20 Sep 09 UTC
Or really, the Powers would have to be

Britain (Canada)
Russia (Alaska)
Oregon Country (LOL)
Union
Confederacy
Mexico.

The Union would probably start out with the most units given its dual presence on the Pacific and the Atlantic (yet without the "corner position" enjoyed by Mexico, or the possibility of nearby neutrals for the Confederacy in the Caribbean). There would have to be some provision made for the lack of a real Northwest Passage, and for the fact that the Panama Canal hadn't yet been built. Maybe all countries could build in others' home supply centers so that a country could become a naval power in both the Atlantic and the Pacific.

Or we could just accept the naval stalemate created by the Continent :)
girmo (100 D)
20 Sep 09 UTC
Maybe powers could build navis in the east and west sides of the map reprisenting help comming from Europe and Asia.
girmo (100 D)
20 Sep 09 UTC
I also think that Oragon is to small to be a Power. On the other hand I do not understand a lot about American history so I may be wrong.
Le_Roi (913 D)
20 Sep 09 UTC
@girmo -Oregon Country = Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, if I remember correctly.

And you could use the cape down in South America the way to get fleets east/west, making south armerica divided into three parts so it doesn't play a majorrole.

haha, it is impossible to run out of variant ideas. The entire world is a map-makers playground airborne; be creative!

Some ideas:
-Medieval Baltic Sea
-17th century Europe
-Ancient Mesopotamia
-Indian kingdoms

And for a huge list of interesting variants designed by others and ideas that you could possibly improve on, check out www.variantbank.org

Finally, would you be interested in commenting and offering constructive criticisms about this Modern Southeast Asia variant I recently created?

It can be found here: http://forum.webdiplomacy.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=342

The African colonial era map has potential I think. Have you thought about adding Belgium and Portugal and making it a seven-power 'scramble for africa' map?
airborne (154 D)
20 Sep 09 UTC
I don't like either of them but, Belgium can be added pretty easily

2015 - global superpowers.

1) colapse in international trade and the failure of globalisation has resulted in a return to a simpler time of independant super-powers competing for power not afraid of using militrary force.

Powers:
US - three supply centres
EU - three sc (england, germany, france)
China - three sc
Japan/Korea - three sc
Russia/former soviet states two SC
South america (2 sc)
African Union 1 SC (but starts with 3 units, one each supported by Europe and America, that is a proxy unit which AU player controls but whichthey do not support, EU and US both have one supply centre used up - this represents the continued militrary aid to these countries, which keeps militrary-industrial production in the US/EU high while keping the armed forces smaller)

Neutrals: India, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Pakistan, Caribean nations act as 1 SC together (like Balearas in the ancient med variant)

I had something like that but, it's not very good...I can upload it to the lab in a sec

when i drew out the north america map the powers i had were western canada, eastern canada, northeast, south east, midwest, northwest, south west, mexico, central america

Scramble for Africa could be further expanded: Spain (1476-present day), Portugal (1415-1975), France,Germany, Italy (1880s-1960), the U. K., Ethiopia, Liberia, Belgium (1879-1962) and the Boers could all be represented starting with one unit each. Denmark (1658-1850) andd the Netherlands might also have a part instead of some of the later powers.

Private Messages
I want to sent a private message to another user of this site.
I know their user name. But I am not currently in any games with them, and they have not posted on the forum lately.
How can I send them a private message? I can't find a way to get to his profile to do it - Is there a function for looking up users?
