I want to sent a private message to another user of this site.
I know their user name. But I am not currently in any games with them, and they have not posted on the forum lately.
How can I send them a private message? I can't find a way to get to his profile to do it - Is there a function for looking up users?

Yes, the shortest routes are St. Petersburg (North Coast)-Norway-Sweden-Finland-St Petersburg (South Coast) and St. Petersburg (North Coast)-Norway-Sweden-Gulf of Bothnia-St Petersburg (South Coast). So, assuming there is no obstruction (unlikely), it takes 4 turns or 2 years.

There was actually a rule for this in the board game. It took 5 or 6 years to dismantle the entire fleet and manually move it overland, but it was a legal move to go directly from one coast to another overland.

It may very well have been a house rule. Whether it was ot not I do not have access to that particular set of rules anymore so it's not something I can verify. It was from the first Diplomacy set I played (back in 1981 or '82?) I think the game was a 70's version. Each of the units was a wooden block and France was a sickly light green (teal?) even though the rules said it was light blue. I seem to recall my brother pointing that clause out in the rules, but it's been nearly thirty years. Who knows? :-)
