Just an FYI
There was a thread announcing someone was new here, in response to a bunch saying that someone was leaving, and I would just like to announce that I've been around a medium amount of time (7 months). You can find my exact join date on my profile, userID=10479, if your ever wondering.

Dislodging yourself?
Are you not allowed to dislodge one of your own units in this version of diplomacy? I supported an attack on one of my own fleets so I could disband and place an army, but the order failed. Any idea why?

New games are not working
Since the 'new' look for the site, I've tried joining 3 games with my mates, all of which have failed to show up once the entrance time is done.
Does anyone else have this problem? Know of any solutions?
Cheers

Two-way vs. more-way
Why does the argument about a two-way draw being more unstable than a more-way draw keep popping up?

I am rather new
Since everyone feels it popular to announce when they leave, I have decided to announce that I have recently joined and I thoroughly enjoy diplomacy.

Just in case anyone had the impression that more people left webdiplomacy than joined.

Will a mod please clear this up?
A player in one of my games is accusing me of multi-accounting. I wanted to shed some light on this, and verify that I am not, indeed, a multi, and/or a meta-gamer.

if i did i'm leaving the 13th(tomorrow), and coming back the 19th
i probably should have thought about this and posted earlier.

A player takes over CD. Immediately backstabbed.
Let's say you have an ally but due to Civil Disorder someone else takes him over. Would you consider it a back-stab if they attack you since they can read all your previous conversations?

it happened to me recently it seemed that austria (i was turkey) seemed to be in good relation with me but then attack bulgaria and allied with russia against me

? Interpret it out how you want. They were with you, now they are against you :) Whatever you label it, it is the same outcome..

Interpret it how you want**, not 'out' how you want - typo :)

If you take over a CD and immediately attack someone who had been an ally of the previous player, that's not a backstab, because you had made no promises to them.

Someone taking over a CD is under no obligation, in my view, to honour any promises made by the person who went CD.

If your allies go CD, better prepare for trouble.
Its not a backstab. They owe you nothing.

Jamie and Dingle +1 each.

It's happened to all of us (happened to me in a league game) and sometimes it is the smart thing for the other guy and sometimes it is totally stupid. So if your ally is going CD, grab their SCs before someone take sit over.

who cares if it is a backstab or not the game is about backstabbing. If a player is allied with you and then turns on you yes it is a backstab but what are you going to do about it. if someone wants to win a game especially a solo victory they are more than likely going to have to backstab some people.

I agree with DJ.

I'd say it's a stab; the alliance is between countries, not players.

But as paulsantac points ou, there's nothing wrong with a stab, so what does it matter?

(And if you have some personal rule that you never stab people on odd-numbered Tuesdays, then you can modify that rule as you like to cover this sort of situation, so again it doesn't matter.)

anytime someone makes a break for your centers and youre not expecting it is a stab. enemy and ally are relative terms and your enemy one moment can become your ally one season later.

a good rule of thumb is that an ally is an ally as long as you can force them to remain your ally. my guess is that you totally left your guard down with the previous player of austria and were begging to be stabbed at the switch if not earlier.

its an extremely rare case that austria and turkey can remain allied after the downfall of russia as it is.
Excuse me, but I take extreme exception to this thread and the following clause in particular: "due to Civil Disorder." Let it be noted that I have never made or been a party making this alleged stab against the aforementioned accuser, `ZaZaMaRaNDaBo`. It is a sad day when a random ruffian accuses an upstanding and innocent player such as myself of such malicious activities. If it was your intention to use the phrase commonly used to refer to those poor sports or unreliable quitters, please do so and avoid incriminating me with such a mistake. I patiently await an apology.

Civil Disorder!!!
Seriously, I think that the rationality of the move should be taken into consideration. If it is clearly not in the new player's best interest to move against what was previously an ally, then I think the move could be considered a stab. In such a situation, there should be an implied alliance that is broken.
With all that said, it would be very much appreciated if someone could pick up Russia in A Storm of Swords, gameID=12142. While England and/or France will likely run away with the game anyway, I want to make the win as difficult as possible for the bastards. You will have my (Austria's) complete cooperation. I'm sure that this must be the thread to make this request.

I've had many-a-games where the CD replacement didn't live up to the agreements his predecessor promised.

Best bet: On a CD replacement, start new dialogs and either try to recreate the same agreements or come up with new ones... different players == different strategies.
