What determines the order of countries in the game screen?
It seems to change and I cannot see an obvious pattern.

btw, I'm referring to the screen where we all put orders in ect, the bottom table lists each country with various details.

Historical Question
Why was Napoleon exiled instead of executed? Particularly after the escape from Elba and Waterloo, which clearly demonstrated that putting Napoleon by himself on an island and expecting him to stay there and behave himself was a really really bad idea.

Does webDip support "unwanted" convoys?
An unwanted convoy is when an army moves between two coastal areas, BEL-HOL for example, and another player's adjacent fleet convoys them, such as a fleet in NTH. This causes the army to move by convoy instead of by land, which could allow an opponent to avoid combat and take the army's starting point -- a HOL-BEL move to continue with the example.

Circling the Drain
A long time ally is circling the drain and has run into a unique problem. They have 8 centers but only 6 units and it doesn't seem like they will ever be able to get more than the current 6 due to constant warfare being on their centers.

Is it really a stab if you take a center that they currently aren't using to try and make sure that both of you aren't run over?

In Newbs game-2 England took Sweden in the last set of moves. I then moved that unit to Finland. Why doesn't the map indicate that Sweden is held by England?

Draw Votes
They appear to need to all be done in the same phase now. Is this a good thing?
Centurian (3257 D)
25 Jul 09 UTC
Yes. Because before sometimes if you are the only player who hasn't voted for the draw you can let the phase go thorugh and then quickly draw if it doesn't go your way. This is the way it was traditionally meant to be.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
25 Jul 09 UTC
no, simply because there was no problem with letting votes for a draw occur over several phases.
Is this true for pause votes as well?
amonkeyperson (100 D)
25 Jul 09 UTC
Is this the same for voting for a pause? Because that would suck even more. A person might need to pause the game, put in his vote for a pause, ask for a pause, and then leave. But another player might get to the game in the next phase, which means the game wont get paused becaused the person who needed the pause isn't there anymore.

I'm not sure about the game implications of having to all vote for a draw in the same phase, I can think about several pros and cons for both options.
However, I think if it remains like this it should be explicitly indicated in the game e.g. with a message in general chat like "draw votes of players X, Y, Z expired" at the end of the phase.

What's kestas got to say about this?
chtalleyrand (345 D)
25 Jul 09 UTC
It's probably not a very good thing: quite often all the players can't agree during one phase, or even if they agree, someone is always too late... It's especially frustrating with pause votes (as amonkeyperson has pointed out), but gives a lot of additional hassle and pain with all other votes too. You might need to vote again and again, and try to make sure no one misses his vote within one phase... Eh!
I think we need to return to the previous system, when votes do not expire.
Besides, I agree with Ghost and others that text summary of submitted votes should be returned to the global press.
Both are frustrating because you might request it after other players have finalized. They may not revisit the game until the turn ends. (I see this a lot since I have some friends in very different time zones.)

I don't think it's wrong for them to have an expire date, but I do feel like on phase is too much.

The draws and pauses should work like they did in the old version. Sometimes someone would have an idea that he would need to pause later, and when he let us know, we could all vote for the pause except for him. Then, a few days later, when he found out when he needed to pause, he could be the last one to vote, making it go through.

Being able to vote over several phases is very useful, not only for pauses but also for draws. For example, in a paused live game, if people are having scheduling problems, players can enter their votes for a draw, and when everyone else has a chance to come back, the final person can vote for the draw and the unpause, completing everything.

Not sure why the feature was changed... it's simply less usable now.

I think that pauses should stay as they were before, but draws I think they are better this way...
Everyone has to agree with it in a certain moment and changes with turns may change the opinion of a player.
Imagine everyone agrees with the draw except 1 player... that player has a bad turn and he is the only player online when there is the adjudication of orders. With the new scenario he agrees with the draw and votes. The draw passes because everyone voted before, but the players that were not online might just not agree with it because of the new scenario.
In the board game I believe everyone has to agree everytime it is proposed and it has to be proposed again in the next phase if it didn't pass the phase before right?
grncton (672 D)

Bad idea. We've all played in games with that one guy who only makes it on every other phase, but is still up for things like draws. Does the draw fail because he logged on an hour too late?

Also, at least as it is currently set up, the existing votes don't "reset" at the end of the phase. This will make it extremely difficult to tell who needs to cast a new vote and whose was in on time. IF you want to keep the same-phase-voting rule (and I think it's a really bad idea to do so), you should have the votes reset when they fail to go through.
Jamiet99uk (873 D)
25 Jul 09 UTC
The fact that pause and draw votes 'reset' every phase really sucks. Can this be changed back?
Alderian (2425 D(S))
25 Jul 09 UTC
If everyone votes to draw but one and then the phase lapses that player can then decide to draw or not. What is wrong with that? If the other players don't like the idea of that happening, they can withdraw their vote when it is clear it isn't happening that phase and then vote again the next phase.

So I think voting should be independent of phase.
djbent (2572 D(S))
25 Jul 09 UTC
i agree with alderian, and others. voting for both pauses and draws should not be "expired" based on the phase, only when someone withdraws their vote.
OMGNSO (415 D)
25 Jul 09 UTC
It's not good for pauses. The turn you ask for a pause is certainly not the turn you need the pause: you are online and can input provisionary orders. The turn you need a pause is the turn after you ask for it, but by then your draw vote has expired.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
25 Jul 09 UTC
Pauses don't expire.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
25 Jul 09 UTC
Good.

If the draws are going to stay the way they are, then it would be nice if when the phase turns it would clean up the draw voting so it is clear who needs to revote.

Also, what about voting to cancel a game?
Jamiet99uk (873 D)
25 Jul 09 UTC
@Ghostmaker: "Pauses don't expire"

Sorry, but yes they do. You're mistaken. In one of my current games people had voted for a pause, but it had not come into effect, and as soon as the game progressed to the next phase, everyone's pause vote vanished. (including my own, which I know I didn't cancel).

I must have jumped the gun in my tiredness.

Pause votes expiring is definitely something that should be fixed.
Heck, I think a single pause vote should automatically pause the game...
Jamiet99uk (873 D)
29 Jul 09 UTC
Can this be fixed as a matter of urgency please? It is currently almost impossible to get a pause, because the pause votes are expiring after every phase.
Jamiet99uk (873 D)
29 Jul 09 UTC
Ah actually it might be working ok now. I'm not sure.

Anyone still having problems with pauses? Post here!
