Bug on Global board
In game 11921, I am playing Turkey and voted for a draw by entering "/draw" in the global box -- without the quotes. The vote was not acknowledged, however, and it doesn't seem to have registered. There is only one other player remaining in the game and he voted for a draw this morning (7:20am ET) -- presumably before the upgrade.

If you have X units, and X SCs, and you are forced to retreat one of those units... instead of retreating you disband that unit leaving you with X-1 units... do you get to build a new unit that turn?

Taking over countries should be encouraged!
When you take over a country, there is no indication, to an outside observer, that a country was taken over. That is to say, if you take over a country with 1 supply center at the end of a game, you are the only person recorded as having played that game.

Rammstein
Eisbrecher to a lesser extent but it's a little to much dance music for me.
Poison
Guns n' Roses
AC/DC
Led Zeppelin
DragonForce
Juno Reactor
Poison? Really?

are there 2 juno reactors? we are talking about the techno band that provided the music for the Matrix right?

Dingle, what we in the anglosaxon world dont realise is that "ballad rock" still lives strong and proud in Europe and Asia. people love Poison, Scorpion, Micheal Learns To Rock and all that

Yup same band. When I first heard Eisbrecher I heard "Komm Susser Tod" So I got the impression that they were more like Rammstein. When I heard Juno Reactor I heard Navras in the Matrix, which didn't strike me as dance music, so thats how I thought of the bands. Don't get me wrong I love Eisbrecher, but I can't listen to them for a whole day because I go crazy if I listen to dance music for too long, same with Juno Reactor.

I have assembled over 200 songs by Talib Kweli, and they're all fantastic to listen to. It's terribly difficult to memorize the lyrics simply because he makes them so complex. Picking a favorite song is impossible, but any list of favorites has to include Definition, Thieves in the Night, and Love Language.

I love rock, but Poison are god-awful. I can't list all my favourite bands, but here's a sample:

AC/DC, Boston, Bad Company, Thin Lizzy, Rainbow, Dio, Black Sabbath, Accept, Y & T, Megadeth, (early)Metallica, Asia, Yes, ELO, Rush, Journey, Foreigner, Motley Crue, Dokken, Iron Maiden, Cheap Trick, Budgie, Yngwie Malmsteen, WASP, Twisted Sister...

Outside of rock and metal I also like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, as well as J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Wagner, Mozart and Paganini.

i like AC/DC, but i cant listen to them a whole lot. good god, do i respect angus young though. as for some of my favorite bands - the bouncing souls, blink 182, the offspring, motley crue, nickelback, rise against, operation ivy, pennywise, lynyrd skynyrd, molly hatchet, JET, dropkick murphys...

I have to go with Smashing Pumpkins, The pillows, Foo Fighters, Dido, Imogen Heap, Frou Frou, Tool, Rammstein, and Lacuna Coil. Getting into Naio Ssaion a lot lately, too.

(And yes, my tastes are that eccleptic).

Bizzarely, given my other tastes I like Daft Punk too. Especially the track 'Digital Love'

Oh, and a bit of Northern Soul. "There's A Ghost In My House" by R. Dean Taylor being a particular favourite.

Onar (131 D)

Disney songs can be fun... something about that child-like innocence behind them. That, and I really, really like "I'll make a man out of you" from Mulan.

@iMurk: I've been hearing a lot of good about that song, but after Minutes to Midnight, I'm hesitant to even consider them a band worth paying attention to.
Draugnar (0 DX)
21 Jul 09 UTC
@Thucy - of your list I'd have to go with Miles. Dr. Dre and Mahler are OK, but Miles, especially his early stuff, was the King of Cool...
Draugnar (0 DX)

For my non-Jazz (and more eclectic side):

Evanescence
Mozart's Symphonies and Concertos (I love to watch his operas, but opera is meant for watching not listening)
Samuel Barber
Aaron Copland
Leonard Bernstein
Puddle of Mudd
Metallica
Rush
Staind (their new album is incredible)
Yes
Aerosmith (I know we've had the discussion, but I enjoy their music)
Moody Blues
Pink Floyd
Debussy
George Gershwin
The Who
Poseidon (121 D)
21 Jul 09 UTC
Coldplay
Muse
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Aerosmith
The Beatles
Ok Go
Maximum The Hormone
.................
I like a lot of 60's, 70's and 80's rock, but I usually can't decide on one band from the time period.
iMurk789 (100 D)
21 Jul 09 UTC
@onar- try listening to it. it honestly sounds a lot different than most of linkin parks music.
Onar (131 D)
21 Jul 09 UTC
@iMurk: But that's what I hated about Minutes to Midnight.
Onar (131 D)
21 Jul 09 UTC
Listened to the song. It was good, but not what I wanted. Not what made me like LP in the first place, and not what I want to hear from them. Did Mike Shinoda leave the band altogether?

iMurk789 (100 D)
21 Jul 09 UTC
@onar: oh ok. it didnt sound like minutes to midnight...so i figured you should give it a shot. personally, i think most of linkin parks older music is just OK, and i really liked new divide and a good amount of the songs off minutes to midnight. and no, mike shinoda is still in the band.
Onar (131 D)
21 Jul 09 UTC
Well, what I liked about the first two albums was the dynamic between the rapping and lyrical screaming/singing. That was what made them stand out in the first place, and drew my attention towards them. On Minutes to midnight, that combined effort that I so loved was completely missing, instead sounding like two different bands doing one album.

If anything, this new song sounds like a good version of what "What I've done" was trying to be.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

Draugnar-

When it comes to 20th Century composers, my favorites are all a bit later. I'm really into minimalism, and I like Philip Glass, John Adams, John Cage, and Penderecki quite a lot. Charles Ives is pretty amazing too though. Dr. Dre is my favorite rapper... I and realllly do love hip hop a lot. Old school hip hop is pretty much some of the coolest stuff imaginable... except for maybe cool jazz which also really freaking cool in its own way. So the toss-up remains lol. Except that I add a fourth contender in John Adams.

"Depth charging"
@El_Perro_Alto: Please don't do this. Cleaning it up just takes a copy&paste of a query, but until it's cleared up it wastes the time of people reading the forums, because they can't see what posts are actually updated.

The next version has code to prevent "depth charging", but I'd rather not spend time writing anti-dumbass code so use some common sense
