Sounds a little hypocritical whilst other threads have me agreeing to unpause, but I strongly believe it should be a total agreement

Suppose you paused and went on holiday Alderian, then the others unpaused without you? How would you feel?

He should feel great because he was on vacation and not the other ones who would all be stuck at work or doing their term-end papers.

Hrmm, good point figle. Fine, then we just need pauses that only last a limited time.

But how would we implement that and keep it as a simple /pause type command?

the BEST idea is to have a time, in hours, for a pause...

maybe a list of choices (a drop down menu): 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days.... or a variable command so a specific hour amount can be voted on by all.

then we could get rid of the whole 'unpause' command altogether and be done with this problem.

but I do think unanimous is the way it has to be...

Firstly, I think pauses should be kept simple for users, even if slightly less powerful. Thus you would vote for a pause as a number of turns (keeps it simple surely). eg "Pause 6" would pause for 6 turns.
Unpausing would be kept because then if you were back earlier you could vote to resume. Moreover, draws should occur whilst pause, but all-finalized shouldnt. A player without orders should still be able to talk to his neighbour about why he shouldn't build 2 armies and attack him!

Babak, I had previously proposed specifying number of phases to pause. So a live (1 hour phase) game could pause overnight for 12 phases. But being able to specify days and hours would also work.

The big issue is what do you do when one person asks for a 3 day pause and someone else specifies a 1 day pause?

Surely It doesn't go through - Unanimous and all that.
