@MrLimmer: You don't read the global, but you expect other people to read the global when you need a pause, eh?

I think people should be good sports and pause when asked to. When we start these game it is not always clear how long they will go for - so there is always a good chance that something will come up. If you get bored while waiting for a game to unpause - why not just start another game if you are so keen to play. This is game and it is supposed to be fun. Play to win by all means but there is no need to be petty. I would hate to win a game just because some one couldn't login for a few days and the other players refused to pause. That would be most unsporting.

I have realised another situation that I didn't mention: I've also forcible paused games where very suspicious play is likely to kill off players. I started a thread asking people what their views on this were and got resounding support.

I am now going CD in that game because the people who have benefited from not pausing will not agree to a draw. I proposed a draw on the basis that the game has basically broken down due to their actions. I know going CD is bad form, but I think I am justified in going CD on this specific occasion, aren't I?

I will generally pause only if the need for a pause is posted at the start of a game for a specific time period, otherwise I just won't do it.

No, I do not feel going into CD is justified. Be the bigger man and play it out. And put them on your 'do not play' list if you want. No one cheated, no one broke any rule.

The problem with trying to 'play it out' is that there is now too much bad blood in the game for this OOG reason, so it will be nearly impossible to have normal diplomatic discussions with some of the players.

Going CD doesn't solve that, does it? I think you should just deal with it. If you don't think you can chat with people, play it as a gunboat. No one broke any rules.

I never play gunboat. Gunboat is pointless. The game wasn't designed as a normal wargame. It makes no sense without talking to the other players and making deals, or "diplomacy" as some people call it.

Gunboat is a brilliant game, but it is definitely not the same as diplomacy

Jamie, do what you will. You have an easy time coming up with excuses for your actions. As an outsider not involved in your game, you look just as bad as the people you are complaining about.

I do refuse a draw, for the reasons I cited above. If you don't feel you are competent enough to win, which is very much still a possibility, then leave the game. I don't feel I should be made to draw because there's too much bad blood. It's a game, as far as I'm concerned, there is no bad blood.

I'd like all the readers to note the offensiveness of the posts about me here. I invite anyone that wants to to read the posts I've left on the game itself, as well as here, and note that I have treated all concerned parties with the utmost respect. just to throw my 2 cents into the pot...

1st: Jamie - you have 62 hours still to change up this game... thats a life time. take a deep breath... stay away for a day if you need to - then come back and play it out. you seem like a decent guy and a real Dip player - so dont give up - b/c then you give up the high ground.

2nd Mrlimmer - I personally think you need to eat a bit more humble-pie than you have... if these players respected your pause, and now have admitted that you disrespected theirs due to your own shortcoming (ie not reading global tab) then I dont think you have much room to be lecturing to Jamie who is justifiably ticked off.

back to Jamie - looking back at the game history, it seems your ally, Russia, benefited quite a bit from NMRs himself... taking Nwy, Bla, Ank while you yourself took Nth all b/c of NMRs... followed up by more NMRs from Austria and England which then helped France take Lvp and you take Vie among other things... this was all followed up by an NMR from italy which allowed you to take Tri from him...

so to make a long story short - this game was FULL of NMRs (and some horrible play to boot)... so I really dont think you have such a righteous case to make after all. Both you and your ally benefited from missed moves... probably more than your enemies combined... so the idea that a draw should be declared now would be preposterous on its face (to me).

now - if Russia is not coming back for a few more days, then yes, I do think the other players should pause for him... or maybe you can email the mods and convince them of the case for a pause... but to go CD yourself or to stomp your feet and demand a draw is not warranted.

as for blowing some steam here on the forum - that's cool... that's one of the many reasons this forum exists... and its also quite fun for the rest of us to read this type of thing...

If I were personally in your shoes - I would take a breather... step away from the game and go enjoy nature (go hiking or something) for a day... then come back... apologize to the whole group for my outburst, but explain why I felt so upset. then I'd ask them quite kindly (with a few 'please's thrown in) to pause until Russia comes back...

if they still dont agree, then deal with it... lose like a man... or try to convince Italy of F's danger... or offer F to be his vassal in return for 2nd place (this is a PPSC game after all)... then move along and play another game.

OK, Babak I will help you here ;-p

I think the way mods proceed on FB is better:
1. force pause games when the reasons given to mods for the pause required make sense and the pause required is not too long
2. force unpause games when one player is missing

This way, pauses never last too long, hence removing the very valid argument brought forward by Maniac for not agreeing to pauses (i.e. games stuck in the pause limbo)
Note that point 1 is a consequence of point 2, we have no problems to pause the games as soon as required cause we know that the unpause will come soon as well.
It also removes most possibility of the very bad sportsmanship of benefiting from sb refused a legit pause and going NMR.
