Drama Queen Rating
I request the dev's to program this rating in each profile. I'd rather not play with people who have a high drama queen rating. I dont' care how it's implemented.

Rough calculation can be made by dividing someones total points by their userID...
Divide # of 'Defeated's by # of complaints in the forum.

This is ingame drama rating, not forum. So to me, this doesn't apply to you Draugnar :)

As for the calc, I was thinking, of a 5 star post-game rating about this that the other players can evaluate. Over time, the cumulative majority should peg down the high drama player.

DJ - surely multiply? and % defeats - i have far more defeats than most drama queen's!
orathaic (1009 D(B))

no, i should be allowed to be a drama queen if i think it will help me win my game.

I should be allowed say almost anything (game related, threatening someone's family is inappropriate) i should be allowed throw a tantrum and claim i'm going to go into CD just to annoy the other players (to lull them into a false sense of security by making them think my units wouldn't move)

drama for all! (i should be able to tell my girlfriend that i only didn't reply to her message because i was sick, and when she finds out i did read it and used the information to stab her she shouldn't threaten me in real life...)

I saw a site that had a neat feature called "play-again rating". Basically, after each completed game you give the other players a rating from 1 to 5 or whatever scale you want to use. The higher the number the more you would be willing to play with that person again. Obviously, the lower the number the less you wanted to play with them again.

Each person's PAR was visible on their profile. You could also create games with a requirement for a minimum PAR.
Chrispminis (916 D)

Really? I don't think that's a good idea because it would seriously stifle the ways in which you can communicate. If you don't want to play with someone, then just avoid them yourself. There's no need to broadcast your grudge so that others won't as well, unless it's something major like metagaming.

If something like that were implemented, I think we'd see a lot more draws as people always tend to get a little angry or emotional when the final straws are pulled and they get the short one. I wouldn't want people to suppress their inner ruthlessness and selfishness because they don't want to be excluded from games.

@chris - lol it was the only one i noticed and it was kinda a biggy, my grammar is appalling, i make no apologies i have better things to do with my life than worry about grammar :p

You really need dimensional analysis for this to be done properly...

For the forum:

The unit for drama-queen-ness must be related to phpdiptime and hysterical-ness, Increasing linearly with hysterical behaviour, and inversely with time.

In the world of phpdip there are three elements to time:

Actual time =T
Forum posts =P
Games Played =G

Each of which is of equal importance:

So phpdip Time = (T P G)^1/3

Hysterical behaviour is proportional to:

Number of posts= P
Density of superfluous capitals= C/chs (Capitals/characters)
Density of swear words= S/chs
The Square of the Length of posts(for dramatic length) per post=chs^2/P
Also, the shear number of characters: chs

Therefore we get:
Drama-Queen coefficent= P C S chs^3/Pchs^2(T P G)^1/3
=C S chs (T P G)^-1/3

In game:

Time: Time= (T P Gt)^1/3 P=press rate here, Gt=Time spent in that game

And Hysterical behaviour is: (k Gl+D) P C S chs^3/Pchs^2 Where D is the proportion of press sent to one particular player and Gl the proportion in Global. k is an unknown constant (but known to be greater than 1) Which must be verified with experiment.

Simplified: (k Gl+D) C S chs (T P G)^-1/3

So, to summarise:
In forum: k1 C S chs (T P G)^-1/3
In Game: k2 (k3 Gl+D) C S chs (T P G)^-1/3
Gl and D being ratios, these two have the same units. c, k are coefficients to be found through experiment, based on the fact that Complaints, ban-calls and irritation levels are all proportional to drama-queen ness.

@ghost: I love it. Especially the definition of hysterical behavior. Hehe

@jacob: this is more what I meant. I do it by myself on the side (you are ranked high), but it's only for people to seek to play or seek to avoid. The middle I don't track.

I try and treat the game like a professional adult, and like the game is business. There are ups and downs. I prefer to play with other people with the same view, and not like we are playing for 1 million dollars and a loss or survive will mean the death of their firstborn child.

Imagine an isolated group of Prima Donas slowly moving into an old people's home, and you'll realise it shouldn't be zero sum.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

Actually, that's a bad explanation. Basically, my being a drama queen doesn't preclude you from being one.
Chrispminis (916 D)

"Hysterical behaviour is proportional to:

Number of posts= P
Density of superfluous capitals= C/chs (Capitals/characters)
Density of swear words= S/chs
The Square of the Length of posts(for dramatic length) per post=chs^2/P
Also, the shear number of characters: chs"

Actually a study from a year ago conducted at the University of Waterloo has shown that hysterical behaviour is more proportional to the square of the density of superfluous capitals and swears and linearly proportional to the length of the post, to an error of + or - 1.6%.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
05 Jul 09 UTC
Ah, but being a theorist myself, I can safely say that that cannot be correct- it leaves an increase in characters, albeit without superfluous capitals or swearing, reducing the hysteria. That makes Scylla's speech in Ovid's Metamorphoses 8 pretty close to not-hysterical, a clear counter example.

The Experimenters at the University of Waterloo are good enough that when they complete the follow-up study they will be able to fix whatever error made this happen.
orathaic (1009 D(B))

Your ungeneralised theory completely leaves out semantic interpretation of the user, while some people may interpret the use of capitals as offensive others fail entirely to use them (due presumably to a lack of a functioning shift key or caps lock button)

Furthermore the offensiveness of swearing depends on several social considerations which your simplified system completely overlooks.

With neither a semantic nor social considerations your 'theorising' is very limited. From an experimentalist's point of view it would be better to test the hystericality of the typist with a fMRI, and using this as a baseline to predict a general typing rate/heart rate relationship.

To do this i recommend a wide study of typists. first a blood pressure analysis using web cameras specifically hacked to recognise the user's pulse and a simple key logging program placed onto all internet users home machines to record the words per minute typed. (The combination of wpm and heart rate can easily be used to estimate the hystericality of the typist, though that relationship i will leave as an exercise for you)

@biddis: sadly i was talking about my hypothetical girlfriend. No that i don't know any girls, just that i haven't gotten many of them to play dip recently.

also I know some girls who specifically wouldn't play dip. They play risk and consider a betrayal of trust in that game the same as a betrayal of trust in real life (because the play risk in real life)...

Another 4th of July gone, and before the feeling of patriotism gives way to cynicism about my government TODAY (Palin resigning, and she wanted to be VP... sad) a question about the titans of YESTERDAY I've wondered for a bit-

Would you consider adding to Rushmore Reagan, FDR, both, neither, maybe a "new" Rushmore somewhere else.......?
