Concerning ranks and points, is it better to be defeated completely or left with one SC?
I mean you survive, but not really.

Take over CD for free
Hi: I'm watching all these games with CDs, but nobody wants to play them because right now, they cost points just to lose. I'd actually like to play them as much as starting a new game because of the increased need for diplomatic dealings, but they just cost too much as it is right now.

How about creating a troubleshooter category that lets people who want play a limited number of CDs for free.

Need help pausing...
I've been called out of town unexpectedly, and I'm not sure if I'll have internet access until Monday. I've asked for pauses in all my games, but in some I have not-quite-CD powers or other players who have not voted for them. Is there any way I can get some help pausing? I just don't want to forced into CD by non-voters.

This site and its PPSC rules are NOT "Dipomacy" they are a bastardization of a quality game
I have now played on this site and FB for 2 full months+ and finally I'm fed up with it. this is NOT Diplomacy... its the bastardization of a quality game - and its dragging the name of the game down with it.

Problem on FB dip - maye here too?
I'm in a game on FB diplomacy where a fleet in West Med supported another fleet from MAO into Spain NORTH COAST. This is not a legal move since West Med can't move to Spain(nc). Is this a problem here as well? Anyone know?

Variant - Touch Diplomacy
Anyone up for a Touch variation game? I played in one before and it was a lot of fun but i need to be reminded of the exact rules. we had one global message allowance per regular turn(we can do without that i think) and then we could only chat to countries that units were alongside each other.
who did i play it with before?...flashman and cgwhite do you remember the exact rules?

i thought braveheart's suggestion that the no global would be fun because two allies could be strategically broken up thus hey couldn't communicate was a pretty neat idea. without the global press to get ahead you need to maintain that strategic link.
Churchill (2280 D)

I'm insistent on sean's game being no global press- as it was part of the rules that I joined for.

Are we doing once per year, no two consecutive seasons, once per season, or what?

Also, are we implementing the Single Simple Sentence rule?
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
11 Feb 09 UTC
This is what I posted in our game. I stress that these were the rules we played in the original two versions of this game, and they worked *extremely* well:

1.) A country can have one global message per turn of 200 words max.
2.) A country can only communicate with another country if:
a) An army is in a neighbouring province to another army (e.g. German army Ruhr, French army Burgundy)
(b) A 'bounce' has occured in the previous turn - (e.g. German A Ruhr- Burgundy, French A Paris - Burgundy - a bounce occurs).
(c) If a fleet is in contact with another fleet (e.g. French Fleet MAO, English Fleet Irish Sea)

3.) Fleets may contact armies at any time if they are in a neighbouring province.

4.) Armies cannot contact fleets unless the fleet of another nation is in a coastal province e.g.French fleet in Wales may contact English Army London. An army CANNOT contact a fleet in a sea province at any time

Hope that helps - these rules were well tested in Touch Dip 1 and 2, the two original variant trials.

Sean - sorry it's taken me so long to post to your original query regarding the rules! I went back to the actual games to check the press.
Pandarsenic (1485 D)
11 Feb 09 UTC
4) What if the fleet makes contact? Can the army reply? Perhaps one reply per message?

200 words seems like a very arbitrary limit. I think the single simple sentence would be easier and involve less word counting....

I'm in!

I'd like to know the exact rules so if they could be stated in the Global chat...
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
12 Feb 09 UTC
Pandarsenic - if a fleet at sea makes contact with an army on land (e.g. English Fleet MAO, French army Brest), then only the English can talk to the French, NOT vice versa.

In 'Inappropriate Touching' we are trying it without global messages (i.e. no rule 1). This is going to be interesting!
Ursa (1617 D)
12 Feb 09 UTC
I must say Italy and Austria have a somewhat unfair advantage in Spring 01, but this should prove interesting.

Q@cgwhite: Is it so that the English fleet can only talk to the French army and it cannot react or does the English fleet require to start negotiations?
cgwhite32 (1465 D)
12 Feb 09 UTC
No - it's simply that the the conversation is one way! England can talk to France, but France cannot reply.

If they want closer co-operation, then they must bounce. For example, England might say - I want to talk to you in detail. Let my fleet into Gascony this turn, and then we can talk about an alliance in full between us. Or he can communicate his thoughts, and hope that France will ally with him.

I'm a bit disappointed about the no global messages in the game I'm in - it really made the first two games, but I guess I'll have to see how these play out.
RBerenguel (334 D)
12 Feb 09 UTC
Ursa, I have copy-pasted the rules in the global chat. Also, as everyone in the game has been in this thread, we could also discuss rules questions here to avoid clutter in the global chat.

Question on Support holds.
If you support hold another unit, does it have to be holding itself to take effect? I know it can't be moving, but could it be support moving another unit but still get the support hold?

Bug - disbanded fleet still shown as existing
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=8476

the fleet in St.Petersburg was disbanded, yet it is still shown on the map. I am not sure if the fleet will be treated like it actually exists, but it would be nice if this can be fixed.
