GFDT round 1 underway
Now that all games of the GFDT are underway, I've updated the tournament site at: http://www.llamanation.org/gfdt2008. Links to all the games as well as the seeding list and game draws are present.

The observant among you may note that there are numbers missing from the seeds, that's due to the dropped out players. Seeding was recalculated with them still included, however game draws stayed the same.

Login stopped working?
So... I went on vacation and while I was gone my login wouldn't work. I am on now because this computer never logs off of the site. Was that what was preventing me from logging in while on another comp? All of my countries went into CD and it cost me an awful lot of points. Has anyone else had issues?

Spanish translation
Well, after reading the developers forum and thinking about the pros and the cons, I'd like to offer myself to do the spanish translation. All I ask is having the literals clearly pointed. I get a little bit lost looking through the code... ;-)

Does anybody knows about this site? In my opinion the graphics are worst than phpDiplomacy, but it seems to have a lot of work on it. The most curious thing is the Diplomacy National World Cup =P

1 convoy, 2 armies
I couldn't find the answer to this issue anywhere. Namely, if I am France, and I have a fleet
convoying in the English Channel. Is it possible to transport 2 armies across the same convoy?

GFDT 2008 - Round 1 - Game 14
We had paused the game waiting for the 7th person. Since we have a replacement we all voted to draw the first and restart with the new player. Unfortunately when we all voted for the draw the game still thinks it's paused and won't process.

New to Diplomacy - Greetings from Portugal
Hello,
This is my first message, as I've just registered on phpDiplomacy. It seems to be just the site I was looking for. So far, I've only played a couple of games offline - and have always been defeated - but I like Diplomacy very much and I would like to play a lot more. Hope to meet you soon.

'Oldest' Players
Kestas, please would you do a database query to find out something that I've been wondering about: who are the oldest active players (in order), where by active I mean currently in a game.
Obviously I could work my way through by changing the UserID on the profile page, but that would take an awfully long time!

Question: "Support hold" for a "moving" unit possible?
Hey folks, got a beginner question...
Is it possible to support a hold for a moving unit? I want to move with a unit, but it will be blocked 100% (it is already an enemy unit there, I want to avoid a further enemy units moving there). So it will be a 100% block. Is it possible to give a "hold support" for that "moving" but in fact staying unit? Thanks in advance !!!

GRRRRR i hate sore losers
god in like almost all my games i have played when someone starts losing they wait until the max time to put there turns i so everyone else suffer and then they say if u dont let me win i will keep holding up the game.

what do u do wen so\umone does it?
EdiBirsan (1469 D(B))

Stop complaining, the game deadline is the deadline. No one has an obligation to finalize their orders early for the convenience of the other players. Often the players on the losing side NEED the max time to work on the other players to break things.
nah but when they tell u that unless u pull out of there territory they will keep doing it then it isnt fair
i meen they are online and so is everyone else

People have the right to spend the entire alotted time to make their moves. Its bad form but if its just retaliation but it isn't against the rules.

What you can do though is play games with shorter time limits, kill them quickly, or wait that bit longer.
It may seem petty, sometimes it may indeed be petty. But, as Edi said, the game was established with a deadline. As long as they are within the deadline, they are holding up their end of the deal. Far better I might say than going CD.
tru i guese but what really is annoying me though is i one of my games we all voted for a pause and one guy wont un oause and hes bee online like 5 times and we all have been telling him to go but he wont
Invictus (240 D)

I see what you mean. In one of my games Russia was holding out to take about 8 centers on his last move, even though he only needed one. France got real bitchy about it and let the game run even though he had hardly any units to move. Russia did a dick move but he can win however he wants to. France ought to have shortened it and not been so petty.

But I can see both sides. If I had done better as Turkey it wouldn't have been an issue...

Refusing to unpause is a more serious issue. If he takes this attitude, you can ask one of the administrators to manually unpause your game.
kk thnx

just say you will pull of of his territory or whatever hes demanding you do.
of course don't actually pull out >:)

what i find to be a more annoying (and unfortunately re-occurring case) is after you execute a well-planned stab, and the the victim proceeds to insult them and cuss them out. I have literally had a game where a person said something along the lines of "your mother is a f*****" after i took 3 centers from him in one turn.

I've talked to a few people that NEVER finalize their moves.
They said it is because it forces other players to communicate and be diplomatic with them
ldrut (674 D)
21 Nov 08 UTC
And I'm one of them. I want to be able to think about my moves, so I calculate how many moves I have time for in a week and join games with time limits that add up to that many moves. If I finalize, turns will start coming too quick and I won't have the time I need. If I'm sure of my move and its only a few hours left and my week is not too busy, I'll finalize, but not otherwise.

The number of people who whine or cuss to me because I won't finalize though is surprising. If you don't want to wait, join a quicker game.
Crashless (424 D)
21 Nov 08 UTC
The only problem I have is when some one doesn't finalize their moves to spite the rest of the gamers(in addition to the cussing). I'm fine with people who are on when the turn is about to end and are putting in their moves. Or they are using the non-finalizing to help them make the next turn.....

he he

I was russia in that game :D I really have no problem if people want to wait the whole time limit for their moves sometimes I do it thats why I join the games with 24hr+ time limits really all it does if someone tells me they are holding the game like that is remove my respect for them no more no less

I'm in a game where the winner is now giving away centers to his 2nd place friend so he can get more points at the expense of those who had managed to survive. He had actually gotten his 18th, but then gave it away before the recount. Delaying happens by losers and winners--both are unfair. But if it's good for the goose......

I hate weak losers - by which I mean, the moment things are going their way, they bail. It's far more damaging to have one turn of a guy with five or six units go into disorder than it is with one or two. There ought to be a law.
Fidobot (100 D)

This is tiring when people who are losing in a 168-hour game wait the full time limit.

Is it fair play a 6-way draw?
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=6254

They are asking for draw, even with players with 1sc. It is the extreme case of playing with PPSC. I know it's legal. What I want to know if that is fair.
