Yup stabberfou is the only active stand-alone web-diplomacy app out there that isn't based on phpDip; it was started 1 year after phpDip and emphasises tournament play for people already familiar with the board game

I am very familiar with Stabbeurfou. I like it alot.
I also like the graphics there more than others.
It has a lot of features that are not found here or elsewhere and it is designed with the idea of running tournaments of which the Diplomacy National World Cup was one.

I will be running a Gunboat 7x tournament in the new year there.

when you say x7 you mean the first round will consist of all players playing 7 games as 7 different countries?
does that site have an order entry system like phpdip?
i tried playing a game, maybe it was through diplomatic pouch im not sure, orders and talks via email with the GM sending us a map every turn, god it was tough going(the system not the level of play)
sorry but phpdip walks all over that one.

the message system there is very frustrating. it's like email only worse

Wow... that message system appear to be very uncomfortable, with that information I think that I'm not going to try to play there. It's a shame, the national world cup appear to be funny at least =P

They have introduced a point and click system but typically you issue orders like you do in face to face such as

I like their email web system. as it also allows you to send a joint message to several players and keeps track of whether you have answered someone or not.

It allows for team interactions and scorings.

They also have a robust order checking system that will not allow you to make many of the sort of order errors that you can with php based codes.
Also orders are done in a rule book manner rather than backwards as here.
For example you write
F Nrg S F Nth-Nwy
rather than Fleet Norwegian support a move to Norway from the North Sea.
It has a complete record of moves including retreats, and adjustments which is missing here.

Hmm - team variant looks interesting. But current world cup tournament seems to have been going since 2007!!
