Chat records
I'm currently involved in a game with a handful of new players, VERY fast paced. As a result, I'm getting messages flying at me, especially over the global chat, between strategizing and asking how certain features work. As a result, some of my transcripts are getting lost in the chatlog. Is there any way to expand the viewable window of press?

NPT (Nuclear Proliferation Treaty)
Just wanted to see what you guys think of this.
Iran wants peaceful nuclear energy which is allowed under the NPT
US and much of the west wont allow this and break the treaty by refusing to let Iran have it. So whose wrong the US for breaking the treaty or Iran for pursuing it (or are they lying)?

Some Questions for Mr. Birsan
Which is your favorite country to play and why?

In your opinion, which country is best for first-time players? (thinking of my girlfriend here...)

What differences have you noticed in styles of play among countries/nationalities/age groups/gender, etc?

Do draws include all survivors?
On this site, do all draws include all survivors?
For example England has 16 and Turkey has 16 and Germany has two. Can the Germans elect to agree to a two way draw between England and Turkey.
Or is it that the draw must include all survivors and then England and Turkey would have to wipe out the Germans in order to get to a two way draw?

As background, numerous Face to Face tournaments have different rules on how votes are take (some are open like here or secret)
some votes require that 30 or 29 centers be in the majority others require a unanimous vote to pass anything,
some say you can vote yourself out of a draw
some say that there is a minimum number of centers or time past before a game can be voted to an end.
some have no concept of a draw at all but only have the vote to end the game.

What are the exact details here?

What about the organizations that Iran sponsors: Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah & the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade.

Do you think that they should have access to nuclear weapons and material?

If a suicide bomber detonates a dirty bomb in Tel Aviv and no group claims responsibility, would Isreal then have the right to strike back at Iran?
Warrior (675 D)
18 Sep 08 UTC
Ed, I think that is really improbable that anyone drops a bomb again. This is hypothetical, and you can’t attack a nation because you think that maybe they could make a bomb, maybe they could give it to Al Qaeda and maybe they will drop it in Tel Aviv. It’s too much. The facts are that they never have dropped a bomb, and now they are rounded by US troops. US army has effectively dropped the bomb, and a few years ago they invade Afghanistan and Iraq with lies such "invisible terrorist threat" or "hidden massive destruction weapons”. And now they are making similar accusations and arguments about Iran. So, if you live in Iran, you have reasons to worry. But you are worried by hypothetical possibilities?

my quick input

Nuclear Iran is a good thing, for power
I do not think they should have nuclear weapons
but I also think that the USA is the last country on earth that should tell anyone else whether or not they can/should have N weapons
warsprite (152 D)

No way should we or any one let Iran become A nuclear power. The more countries dancing that dance of death the more likely someone will make a mistake. As for the chance of Iran using the bomb one must ask what would of happen if Germany or Japan had one in 1945. Hitler would have used it, and the diehard officers in the Imperial Army would have also. Even if they know the U.S. had one.
Warrior (675 D)
18 Sep 08 UTC
warsprite: how can you be so sure about Hitler's or Japan's intentions? This "evil Iran" is a construction. It will be usefull to justify invasion, so they need to convince everybody that they are "the good guys" who will stop "Iran's menace". You can be shure that it will be the same as Iraq: US will kill inocent people, rob oil, destroy the country (Haliburton will rebuild it) and they will find no nuclear weapons. Or maybe US will put one or two out of the blue just to justify.
Please take a look at history, this is a very common trick of empires, you don't need to be Einstein to understand it..
Chrispminis (916 D)

Why does everyone think that (religious) radicals are predictable?

The American population is being positively groomed for war with Iran. If America goes to war with Iran, it won't be because it's afraid Iran will actually drop the bomb, it will be because Iran is going to sell it's oil for Euro's and undermine the American dollar and because it the bomb would give an anti-US nation in the Middle East far too much local and international political influence.
Warrior (675 D)
19 Sep 08 UTC
My friend Chrispminis: the muslim countries of Middle East were progressive and open mind a few years ago. Today, they need to use religion as propaganda and control. Why? Because they will sent their people to war against one of the most powerful enemies in the world. Why? Because suddenly that army is killing them in their own country. So the government needs ignorant people who is sure and convinced that god is waiting him in paradise with a bunch of whores. And obviously they don't have mercenaries. So they have no options. But they are not stupids to attack a country, they are only defending their country during the invasion, hoping it will end soon.
But US is also looking for ignorant people. For example, I've read about a complain of US soldiers in Iraq, because in comparation with Haliburton truck drivers, their wages were a few coins. And they also need you without critical view and logic. Is so difficult to understand that Iraq is not attacking Miami? US is far away from home killing people in Iraq and you put all of them under the label "radicals".
Think for a moment that your contry us under ocupation. Your family is dead, every day bombs are falling in your city, you are scared and felling miserable, with no job, no expectation etc. Don't you think that you will be specting peace and nothing more?
Those "radicals" from Iran were in war a few years ago, you really think that they enjoy war and they are willing to suffer again? That's predicticable: they don't want to die in a stupid war as well as you. Or you think they are stupids? Maybe thay are scared because they have oil and all his neighbours with oil were attacked by US. That's predictable, because US is predictable: US have been spreading war all over the world for a long time.
Chrispminis (916 D)
19 Sep 08 UTC
Uhhh... Warrior? If you read my previous posts you'll find we're probably arguing on the same side here.

My point was that people seem to attribute some ridiculous attitude with people they deem (religious) radicals. For example, that the WWII Japanese were suicidal, bushido-code samurai wannabes that would have stopped at nothing and fought to the last crying baby armed with a bayonet in their war against America. Never mind that this was clearly not the case...

I'm arguing that given the current political and economic climate, there will not be any sort of world war in the next 15 years. There will always be war and countries in conflict, but I don't believe that the whole world will jump in.

Sorry if I misunderstood your words, it's not easy for me, I am a victim of my translations.
One writer of my country once went to Dante Alighieri's tomb. The guard told him: "have you read Dante?" And the answer was: "Of course, I've made a translation of his books". So the guard replies: "oh, you came here to apologize to him".
Let's think logistics guys. The US simply doesn't have the manpower, resources, or the support to invade Iran at this point. If Iraq gave us trouble, Iran would be a nightmare.
Unless you don't think a draft is out of the question?
sean (3490 D(B))

El perro, the Us could logistically and materially afford an air bombing campaign with Iran to wipe out its nuclear facilities, transport infrastructure, main barracks, airports and communication hubs.
off course they might not be able to cope with the consequences of such an action, an uprising in iraq, mass protests in US cities and thousands of iranian infantry crossing into iraq on foot or whatever mechanical means evade the air war.
but when has consequences ever stop the neo cons?
Chrispminis (916 D)
19 Sep 08 UTC
The air campaign would be severely hampered by the fact that Iran is one of the most mountainous countries in the world. If it was hard to get the Taliban in their caves...

Xapi:
It's important to remember that we are talking about a regime that is completely and totally insane. Iran at present is not governed by logic.

We're talking about the country whose President said there were no gays in Iran.
Warrior (675 D)
19 Sep 08 UTC
youradthere: you will never know what is happening in Iran watching CNN. If you look carefully, US have been attacking countries since second war, and Iran have been invaded by powers and neighbors since second war. So, if one country is attacking others, developing and testing new weapons while they predate natural resources of the nations they invade, supporting coups in friendly neighbor countries, increasing the money they spent in war, forcing other nations to join their wars or to support their abusive politics and laws, etc…can you conceive that country as insane too? Or just you repeat propaganda about your next victim and never take a look at the mirror?

Xapi (194 D)
19 Sep 08 UTC
"It's important to remember that we are talking about a regime that is completely and totally insane. Iran at present is not governed by logic."

I disagree. There are no crazy rulers in the world. Not even Bush. Not even Hitler. They all have their logic. It is just not the same as yours.

And I don't think Ahmadinejad's logic is worst than Bush's. At the very least, Ahmadinejad is more honest.
Chrispminis (916 D)
19 Sep 08 UTC
Hahaha, not governed by logic? Someone's been marinating in a little too much propaganda. I can't pretend to know Ahmadinejad or his advisor's minds, but I can say that they're not stupid, and they're not irrational.
Warrior (675 D)
19 Sep 08 UTC
youradthere: Xapi is right about the honesty. Why Bush can't tell us: I want more oil and I will take it by force? It would be easier to believe than the lie of “fanatic assassins who wants to kill all of us”.
@Sean: While that is a valid point, I was basing my argument on your assumption that the attack would be for oil-grabbing purposes, in which case a bombing wouldn't do much good.
And @youradthere's statement: I wouldn't say Ahmadinejad is illogical, I'd definitely call his views radical. You've probably gotta be a pretty smart cookie to rule a nation, or at the very least, have a lot of smart cookies holding you in that position.
youradhere (1345 D)
20 Sep 08 UTC
I reiterate:
I do not support American foreign policy. It is ignorant and shortsighted, and is only making more, greater problems.

That said, Ahmadinejad has threatened to blow Israel off the face of the earth, and Iran has (understandably) refused packages that would grant it the equivalent of nuclear power and more.

Iran is a major destabilizing factor on the globe today, and a nuclear Iran would only be worse.
Chrispminis (916 D)
20 Sep 08 UTC
Obviously Ahmadinejad would talk the big talk. It's the fear of nuclear detonation that gives possession of nuclear arms such political leverage. He loses that leverage as soon as he detonates. It's not that he's daring enough to do it, it's that he's not stupid enough to.

Question re the cost of taking over a country in civil disorder
Each player puts an equal number of points into the pot to join a game. Thus each supply centre has a point value.

When, during the game, a player abandons play and a country goes into civil disorder, the abandoned country is offered to another player at a 'cost'.

How is this cost to take over a country in civil disorder determined?
--
If the cost to take over a country in civil disorder is the average value per supply centre times the number of supply centres 'controled' by the country in civil disorder, since the SC counts are only adjusted after the fall retreat, the number of supply centres reflected as belonging to the country in civil disorder is often extremely inaccurate.

If the acquisition cost for a country in civil disorder is based upon the value of supply centres in its possession, does that take into account the actual SC count, as opposed to what the SC count might have been prior to the most recent spring season?
