Tips for Newbies
On the heads of the 'Stone Age' players thread, I figured maybe this would help. The rules of diplomacy are easy, its the strategy that makes this game difficult AND fun. But newbies frequently fail to think things through.

50 pot game
Wanted to make a game for semi-noobs, so I figured a 50 pot game would be something a newer player with experience wouldn't mind joining:

So are there any rules, and how are they enforced, for multi-account players in a game?

Uh, a bit of confusion.
In the game bunnies in the wind I am playing as Austria and I moved my unit into on the first turn. On the 2nd turn can I move that army and still keep Serbia or not?

Rules clarification
If I order a unit to support move, and the supporting unit is attacked, will the support move revert to hold?

If so, will ordering another unit to support hold the original unit provide a second defender?

Thank you.

Strange Numbers
There was a thread a couple weeks ago pointing out that I had just started game # 4444, and that I had 666 points at the time. My points have hit another unusual number today.

Rules Question - RETREATS ("Run away! Run Away!")
Okay, say I have a unit on Spain, I'm surrounded on all sides and an attack from Gascony succeeds and I'm forced to retreat. My only retreat option is Gascony, the place the attack came from. Can I retreat there, or am I forced to destroy my unit ? Thanks!

Bounce question
Say there is an unestablished French army in Spain (i.e. Spain hasn't been taken yet), that moves to Marseilles while an Italian army is moving to Marseilles as well. The two will bounce off each other, but will Spain be completely captured by France? or will the army in Spain still have that blue box around it that shows that Spain hasn't been captured?

How long does should a game stay in "Your games"?
I got knocked out of "The Spanish vol5" (game 4433) in Autumn 1909 yet it is still listed on my "Your games" page in Autumn 1910. Is this normal, or a bug?

a new 1001-buy-in game?
For us high-rollers.

I am planning on starting a new 1001-buy-in game (PPSC though, don't like betting everything but only having 1/7 chance of getting it back...)though it can be WTA if you all want that...

It should start by the end of this week...and please all interested reply here to sign up.

Could you support an attack against your own country?
Just a thought. Is it possible to support an attack against your own country?

Say, you were Italy. Could you support an Austrian attack into Italian occupied Venice?

Feature request
Usually, if a player has no choice in their orders i.e. it's a Build phase and they have no builds/destroys or it's a Retreat phase and they have no retreats, then they get automatically finalized so nobody has to wait for that player to log in and finalize their blank orders.

There is one case that is missing - if a player has a retreat to make, but there are no valid areas to retreat to (they are surrounded, or it's an army and the only free areas are sea etc.) - in this case, they have to submit an order, but the drop-down list says - no valid destinations if you choose retreat, so you must choose submit.

Would it be possible in this case to auto-select that order and finalize the orders if there are no others for which a choice must be made?

Civil Disorder
Is it considered good etiquette to go CD if everyone knows you're going to lose? (I know that only one of my games has someone CD, and I'm not trying to point fingers. I've just seen this a lot as I've looked down the games list.)
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

IMO, no, it is very rude. Going into CD can drastically slow down the game. If you can't win, you should try to turn the tide or hold on to a few SC. If you truly can't do anything, at least finalize your moves so the game moves quickly.

you could also make a proposal to end the game in a draw.

Never give up.

I've had some spectacular comebacks including a face-to-face victory after being reduced to a single center. I also think a players actions when they are losing says more about him or her then any other situation.
RogueMcGyver (455 D)

I will never put a country into CD, I think it is disrespectful to your opponents to start a game you don't intend on finishing.

I would rather draw a game I could win than go into CD.

I've gone CD twice.

Once I was held-up during a very long trip.
Once I was disgusted at the other player's complete ignoring my messages and all playing together against me.
orathaic (1009 D(B))

yeah, CD rules are there for the worst case senario that someone can't get their orders in, (although you can use it as a diplomatic ploy...) except in that very rare circumstance I would avoid going into CD.

I've been away and phoned friends to submit orders for me, which is a real pain...
Gobbledydook (1389 D(B))

It's cowardly to flee a game when you're losing...it's the 'a good captain goes down with his ship' philosophy.

Gobbledydook, I love how you refer to "my friend"...

Major Tom, there is no reason to get angry if another player has burnt a bridge entirely with you. No reason to go into CD.

Remember, even if they do not reply, they still read your messages, and you can still do something through that.
DeliciousWolf (112 D)

Even if you're down to your last center, it can still be fun to be the 'wild card' and act totally unpredictable, barter your support for survival, and just be a pain in the ass until the very end. Never give up! If you're lucky, people will remember and in a future game decide working with you is better than against you.

It's not very hard to finalize a hold...or a futile move, although you can support an attack on the countries around you.
cteno4 (100 D)

If you're _completely_ hopeless, it's more fun to become "an hero" and try to die as quickly as possible than it is to just abandon the game entirely. I've been in some F2F games when it became evident that every other country on the board has joined a coalition against me, so I just picked some countries to support into my own home supply centers. No reason to delay the inevitable, I guess.

That's a very rare case, though. More often than not I will try to hang on as long as I possibly can, and there have been a number of times when doing so has allowed me to hang on by the skin of my teeth for years at a time as I faked out whatever country was trying to attack me. It's actually quite a lot of fun that way.

UK member needed for non-Diplomacy related help
I live in the US and am trying to have a certain item shipped to me from the UK. Unfortunately, the distillery in question does not export the item in question. As I don't know anyone in the UK *not* from this site, I figured I'd make my plea here.

Is there any UK resident who'd be willing to let me use his or her address for delivery and then ship it along to me, postage and some sort of token of appreciation paid by me?

civil disorders
when i first joined this site, it used to be that in order for a country to go into civil disorder (CD), that player had to miss 3 consecutive turns. however, i just took over a country in a game that's only in the winter 1901 phase, where it is not possible for the player to miss 3 consecutive turns (none of his SC's were taken over, so he didn't have to retreat at all)... is it that if a country enters no orders for the entire first year they are replaced, or have the entire CD rules changed?
