Possible Bug related to taking a nation that was under civil desorder?
Hello, I joined as a nation that was on civil disorder on 1906 in this game:

http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=964

I am Austria as you can see... I am sure that I do not miss a turn of 24 hours or so. Why I was not asked to place a 3rd unit? This is what I read in the gamemaster:

Autumn 1907, Unit placing: Nothing happened involving your units in this phase.

as you can see... I really need that 3rd unit!! hahaha

Azapcapvsarthas#2
hey, kestas, can you lock that game to 6 spaces untill arthas comes? I don't know why, i told him to join, (maybe he forgot or his internet broke) but it wouldn't be much of a "azapcap vs arthas" if arthas isn't there. or maybe you could give the game an extra 24 hours and lock it for now?

thanks,
azapcap

Group of friends that play as team.
I have played on a board with 3 players that were friends and working together. The game ended in 1906!! While this isn't agianst any rules it puts the rest of the players on the board at a great disadvantage! In an effort to level the playing field post any other teams so everyone knows!
This is the team.

What the...?!
I'm England in this game: http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=1082

my orders were:
Norway army move into St. Petersburg
Barent Sea Support move Norway into St. Petersburg

THat the gamemaster output:

Autumn 1902, Diplomacy: Your fleet at Barents Sea successfully supported the army at Norway move to St. Petersburg.

Autumn 1902, Diplomacy: Your army at Norway moving into St. Petersburg recieved move support from the fleet at Barents Sea.

Autumn 1902, Diplomacy: Your army at Norway engaged the fleet at St. Petersburg head on; both units were equally matched so there was a stand off.

This happened for the last two turns. in the first of them I just thought that I mixed up my orders or something, but I'm now positive that the problem is not from my side...

Is this a bug at all? or is it some vague rule of which I don't know?

asa12 and "cheating"
Has anyone else encountered this? When asa12 is losing she accuses her opponents of "cheating." I've confirmed this with another player.

How does one "cheat" in this game?

I attacked my opponent from Galicia into Warsaw and he somehow retreated into Galicia which would be an illegal move. Can anybody enlighten me on this?

Convoy Question.
Just a quick question from a newbie:
If a fleet performs a convoy move, but is attacked, does the convoy still work?

Downtime
Sorry about the downtime. I haven't e-mailed everyone to tell them it's up because we're not fully up yet. I'm *still* waiting for a reply from support, and it doesn't seem like the speed problem has improved, but by having the site online at least I can keep an eye on the speed.

At the moment it looks like I'll have to move hosts *again*, which is getting very annoying.

Ohhhhhhh, I think I smell a rat.....
Oh I think I smell a rat!

check out this guy:
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/profile.php?uid=1948

Almost in every game he plays there's another one called "TropicanaOJ", and if you check, they always log on about 5 minutes difference from one another. I've only checked it in the game I play with them, but I'm sure you'll notive they always form an alliance, and never attack each other, even in the most crucial times...

Can the high administrator of this game can handle this? ban this fuckshit for life time or something? It really ruins the fun for the rest of us...

Off topic, but Kestas said this would somewhat be solved when the points system was implemented, when exactly will this be? I've won ten games so far, and I'm a master mind still. I certainly played a hundred games when I was a noob, but I would figure that I'd have a good enough ratio already..

And you shouldn't say such things TropicanaOJ, no one likes someone who tries to start things with players who don't even deserve a hateful thought.

Waaaaaah, it's crazy here!
All of you are crazy, Tropicana0J is a vulgar person, and OpenClickSip is also a very annoying person. If everyone just ignore the games that they are in together, they might as well not play.
Zxylon (0 DX)

In the grand scheme of things, one person using 2 usernames is pretty good considering the number of online games there are and the huge amount of cheaters in those games. This sort of thing is inevitable with the growing community. We could either ignore this or make everyone's lives more difficult bu imposing security restrictions. Perhaps instead of having one accound for one IP address you could only allow one person from one IP address per game. If someone has 2 accounts and tries to join the same game it would reject you. That would solve the problem better than limiting accounts. I like to play more than 10 games at a time so I created a second username. I will never join the same game with both accounts.

having an ally was not cheating last time i checked
Noodlebug (1812 D)

Is it not cheating?

It certainly spoils a game if there are two countries being played as though they are controlled by one person (ie they will always work together and always know there is no risk of a backstab).

They will always have an advantage over other players, who have no such guarantees from anyone. Personally, I think playing a game where you have an advantage over other players (that they don't know about) is something I would call cheating.

Why do you have to have such a relationship in the games you play anyway? Why can you not just play a fair game in which you attack each other just as much as other players? I would always rather win a game fairly than by relying on my friends for help, anyone can win if other people help them all the time but if you win where everyone is treated equally, then you know you are a good player, and no-one can argue that you're a cheater.

(I am interested to see if you can answer the questions seriously like an adult or just throw more insults like a little child!!)
TropicanaOJ (220 D)
13 May 07 UTC
lets see...i play everyday in school....and many time the same alliances are formed....and someone may be the odd man out without an alliance

and in the games im with OpenClickSip...one of us is going to have to win...meaning one of us will have to take out the other or give the other the opputunity to gain enough suply centers

but playing with a friend is not cheating...its like any game...just deal with it
Noodlebug (1812 D)
13 May 07 UTC
Playing with a friend is not cheating.

Playing with a friend you know you will never attack and who will never attack you while there are other players in the game... that is cheating in my view.

It really doesn't make any difference at all to the other players if it is two of you or just one person controlling two countries, the effect is the same, your countries only have 5 people to worry about, and all other players have 6.

I am sure there are a lot of friends on phpdiplomacy who play in the same game as each other often, and sometimes help each other, sometimes attack each other, sometimes don't have anything to do with each other, depending on their circumstances in each individual game. There is nothing wrong with that. But from what I gather, this is NOT what you are doing.

Noodlebug (1812 D)

even if it is not cheating, surely you can see why it is not attractive for a player to participate in a game where he faces 6 enemies, and some of his competitors only face 5 enemies?

I would always rather play in a game where everyone is in the same position. You like playing unfair games, I like playing fair games. You must respect my choice not to play in your games.

isbian (106 D)

Even if people use two accounts to band together on you, who cares? It's just like when two people team up in a no cheater game to mop you across the map, though admittedly the cheaters won't backstab each other. That is literally the only difference between cheaters and good allies. The cheaters could get attacked from behind by other players and get crushed.

Plus, the cheaters probably won't even end up as neighbors anyway, seeing as what country you play is still randomly decided.
isbian (106 D)

Anyway, is a "cheater" crime worth it to ban someone from this awesome game for life?

General complaint: speed
I'm getting pretty fed up with how slowly phpDiplomacy is these days.
My net connection is fine, but a single page of phpDip like my games page can take as much as a minute to load, and on average pages take about 30 seconds. That's ridiculously slow compared to other sites and compared to phpDip on other hosts we've had in the past.
Half the time when I try to submit orders or send messages I get a 500 error (Internal Server Error), and the rest of the time it's so slow I'll resort to reading a book while it loads.
Yesterday, I was even getting a 500 error when I tried to access the main page; after waiting about a minute to even get the error message; causing me to miss even more turns.

I came back to phpDip to play a game I loved, and I'm already being driven away by the appaling loading times.

Pause Game
I've got an interesting situation, a few friends and I are in a game, there's only three of us left, and two of them will be gone until next Tuesday. This means that they will probably go into civil disorder, is there any way to pause the game, so that NO turns go through?

Why can't I place new units in Sweden?
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=995

Well in the scrolling list of creating army/fleet, there doesn't seem to be the option "Sweden"... , only Liverpool, York', and London. how come? Can I only create units in the original supply centers?

Supporting a convoyed move
I have an army at Brest, an army at Wales, and a fleet in the English Channel. I'd like to convoy the army at Brest into London, and I'd like to support the move with the army at Wales. In a face-to-face game, my orders would be

A(Bre)->Lon
F(ENG) c A(Bre)->Lon
A(Wal) s A(Bre)->Lon

However, in phpdiplomacy I don't seem to have the option to support an army into London from anywhere but Yorkshire, the North Sea, or the Channel. Is there an order I can give that will support the move I want to make, or has this possibility not been implemented yet?

Thanks for the help!
