Flyover showdown
The lovable rascal Matticus13 here, wanting to put together a game with my fellow Diplomancers in the "Flyover country". RR of at least 80 preferred. Game phases will be at least two days. Open to what map/bet/etc.

Comment below with where you reside in "Flyover country" and what you prefer to undecided aspects of the game.

mobile press view window problem?
Did the format for mobile press display recently change? Press text on my Android Galaxy S7 Edge no longer fits in window and is now cut short on the right hand side. Is anyone else suddenly having this new problem?

Germany attacking Austria in 1901 Spring
Is there any rationale for doing this under any circumstance? I've seen this more often in my newer games and it really perplexes me. Can there be any justification or situation where this is worth doing?
Same goes for Austria attacking Germany in 1901 Spring.
I'm talking full press.

Ftf in NYC
The biggest city in America. And yet, I can't find any Dip groups that play Ftf here. Does anyone know of any groups in NYC, or if we can get enough people, to make one?

Diplomacy: Convoy Chains
This thread is purely for fun and entertainment. Convoys can make for really interesting, exciting, and unusual moves in Diplomacy, allowing armies on one half of the board to reach the other half in one turn. My question is . . . What was the longest convoy chain you ever successfully made?

Speech about the role of government

Not a perfect speech, but still a fairly good one. Perhaps it will help those who claim to believe in freedom and liberty but have lost their way recently to see the error of their ways.

Excellent Player Names, clever & witty
Some members have chosen very witty, clever player names, here's a thread where we can share & celebrate those names

Recently I was most impressed with the player name "Chairman Meow" which I think is an excellent player name, it parodies the name of a successful, ruthless, significant leader in the real world..Chairman Mao of China. There's Ishirkmywork, which I like. Then "orange toaster" that's so "lateral" in it's thinking..I wonder if that's a name chosen at 4 am after a long hard night of partying, when the mind is reduced to looking at the simplest things around.
It'd be good to start a thread that didn't end up in huge controversy, so here's one that celebrates the creative talents of other members

My own player name is the name of an Australian galah, which I chose because I'm Australian, and in our slang, a galah is used to imply someone is noisy, a bit of a clown...which sort of suits "lovable me"

Ha ha Captain meme, no wonder those names got shut down, I like the way, for the last two, where the Almighty Mods started getting their own revenge, where the reason given for banning the Multiaccounting person, included "idiot" with Multiaccounting
MajorMitchell (1600 D)

All of those suggestions are player names that got banned, what about some who made it through, and are usable ?

Is "Capt Brad" a subtle use of "Brad" ..a sharp nail with a small head ? comes to English from the Norse "Brod".. A sharp, pointy instrument.

What do you think of my name? I first started to use it in games like tanks multiplayer because I was curious whether people would shoot at you less often when the word 'Mercy' floated above your head.
MajorMitchell (1600 D)
16 Feb 17 UTC
@mercy, if you have played those multi player tank warfare games, then I'll bet you have played against a young blighter I know who is obsessed with those games, sorry, no names broadcast here. Some of those tank warfare games are impressive, the variety of tanks you can choose, the "team" options etc. Impossible without this newfangled technology of the internet and small, powerful computers.... Never forget Alan Turing, and what those in power did to him.
MajorMitchell (1600 D)
16 Feb 17 UTC
I'm not sure about the tactic of using the player name mercy, there's a lot of players I can easily see shouting "None given" as they launch their attack.

I do like the ban reason given on this one userID=53213 that jmo posted.

Other than my own username (gotta like your own, no?), I like this one for the alliteration: userID=80911, this one for the fictional supreme leader reference: userID=2547, and this one 'cause long live the Queen: userID=80939.

Least liked - anything where the person sticks some number of x's on the either end of the name. Just unimpressive.

My name is my character in a super long role playing campaign in the 1990:ies. He was a tall, god fearing viking style hero looking for the lost sword of the god Trinx in the world Waumark.
We had a similar character named Vidalf in one of my campaigns. Also a long one where we could do a lot of character development. Lots of fun.

I like Tom Bombardil's player name, because the self correcting script software changes it to Tom Bombarding, and an attack by Tom in a Diplomacy game is like an unrelenting bombardment.

Tom Bombadil...imagine playing Diplomacy with that guy.

My favorite is Peter Wiggin, because it's a name you should only pick if you have the game to back it up.

Well we are a entitled to have different opinions, So I think Chairman Meow is a witty and clever player name, & Ishirkmywork is rather good. As for names like "Donald Trump's hair" ..that's just a fad that will blow over...ha ha Hardy ha....hair...will blow over...nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Aubrey Plaza is not funny
I keep thinking that she was so funny in parks and rec. Now shes like the new Dane Cook. Her humor is so 1 dimensional - apathetic - nihilist.
Look at her movie roles: grumpy cat, (some film with adam sandler) and now shes playing Daria.
