Hot to find a player who played a particular game.
Hi,
I played a anonymous game. In that game one player resigned and he was replaced by another one.
In the game page I can only find the new of the replacing player.
How can I know who was substituted in that game?

Have we had a fracking thread? If so I've missed it. What do you all think?

Pretty dull thread, don't you think?

(Adopts stereotypical history teacher voice) Fracking was pioneered after WW2 but wasn't seen in widespread use in UK oil fields until the 70s. Today all UK oil production in the North Sea uses the fracking process.

Aside from its similarity to other fwords, the entertainment value will be pretty low.

@fulminator, then maybe you can explain a bit about it to me?

My understanding, off the top of my head. Frakking allows more gas to be extracted. (Natural gas, not oil/petroleum - which they call 'gas' in the US) it describes a process where a substance is pumped into a well hole and this break up the area freeing lots of gas which is trapped near the hole.

The anti-frakking propoganda claims that it can also release gas which is not collected from the well and which contaminates water supplies, endangering residents.

Care to illuminate me?

@flum - "the propaganda against fracking." Is that the way you genuinely see the 'anti-' camp?

@Octavious "Today all UK oil production in the North Sea uses the fracking process." - Is this true?

@brainbomb - do you want the gas price to go higher or lower? Are you betting on the listed price or something?
brainbomb (290 D)
25 Jan 16 UTC
No but that is a good point. I know that Fracking in general is not the least bit sustainable. For once its directly linked to earthquakes in Oklahoma. Secondly it is not cost effective given the current oil market. Fracking in North Dakota is shutting down in record numbers because these companies cannot afford to keep paying people 14-24 dollars an hour to do this work. (Which is labor intense)

I also am of the opinion that blasting high pressure water into bedrock to get small amounts of oil makes little sense considering water shortages in states like California.

@maniac, in the investment world, MLP= Managed Limited Partnerships. Most are involved in the energy sector and have tax effiencent ways to own energy related equity like risk and have gotten pummeled as the price of oil has declined- you have been better off owning My little Pony's :P

i live and work on the piece of property that has artesian springs and streams pouring out of the hillsides and bedrock all over it, bubbling straight up out of the aquifer. This piece of land is also part of a shale deposit that some people desperately want to frack. if water forces it's way up out of the ground through all kinds of cracks and crevices naturally, I can only imagine that injecting that same bedrock with noxious chemicals and "freed" natural gas will follow the same path. for once i am siding with brainbomn :-) fuck fracking.
Lethologica (203 D)

Water shortages in California are completely irrelevant to fracking discussions. Run the numbers some time. Issues of cost, quakes, leaks, and waste management are worth discussing, though.

Brainbomb, the companies shutting down has way more to do with OPEC strangling competition.
ssorenn (0 DX)
25 Jan 16 UTC
no, not really. OPEC can control supply on market, which if theres not enough demand, will drive oil prices lower. Also, Iran just had embargo lifted and flooded more supply to market. Shale and Fracking miners need a certain price per barrel to not lose money, thats around $42-$45 a barrrel

Here's a fun little link :)

orathaic (1009 D(B))

OPEC decided they wanted to drive newly economic shale oil exploration in north america out of business; the massive drop in oil prices made new exploration uncompetitive (though currently exploited wells continued, or is it still a well when you extract from tar sands?)

OPEC is actually acting as competition for the US oil industry. But they usually limit supply so the price stays high (that is artificially jeeping the price higher than it needs to be) Current OPEC policy doesn't seem to he following this trend.

And the resulting massive loss of oil profits for Russia, whose national budget relies heavily on oil exports.

I have no idea what the price is anymore, as I drive an electric car. I figure not buying petrol is the best way to prevent fracking.

The best way to prevent fracking would probably be to convince governments to properly fund alternatives.

Congrats everyone
Some of you may recognise my username - I haven't played here for a fair while now but I used to be a regular member here. One of the reasons I left was because of how toxic this forum used to be, and I'm really pleased that it's got better, to the point where I might even play another game or two on here soon. Really though, this is just a big props to the mod team.

Do you guys think the map of the classic diplomacy is the perfect balance? Are their any locations that are to powerful and should be needed in your opinion? Obviously there are strategic spots that give you an advantage.

Deleting an account
Is there a way to delete an account? I forgot my original username/password combo and created a new one, but was able to get logged back in under the old. The usernames are really similar so I don't want people to think that I am doubling up (I haven't put any in the same games). Just wondered since I would like the stats to all go to this account, and most likely won't use the other one at all.
