Coding Boot Camps
I listened to an interesting episode of On Point (probably the best radio show there is, btw) a few days ago about Coding Boot Camps. Here's a link to the episode and an older article if you don't have time to listen.

Looking for a Modern Diplomacy Analysis.
I have never played the variant before but I have been looking at some archived games of it on webdiplomacy recently. I was hoping that people would be willing to share any thoughts on it they have. I would love a country by country analysis.

The Leagues Results!
Hi all. So with half of the Leagues completed, I thought now was as good a time as ever to update everyone with the standings and some new rules that will be in place next season.

Going to brag here, and post an EoG if anyone else wants to. Good show.

WTF HR, that is the craziest game I've looked at ever. :-) Well done.

Actually, I lie, I recall looking at a game log of one of Edi Birsan's games at some convention or other around 2000 which featured him as England and every single French, German, and Russian unit moving *away* from England in every single turn all the way to 1908, whilst he casually picked up SCs behind, and they just declared him the solo winner at that point at 13 SCs. It was at that point I decided that humans are really strange and some humans genuinely have crazy level of talents at convincing other humans to do shit. It's not like they didn't know who he was or anything, either. :-)

But this board is definitely the most messed up victory log I've seen. :-)

Haha. This was a lot of fun. I did enjoy proving the mods who were watching wrong at every given opportunity.
France should've torn you a new asshole in spring 1903. And Russia was just twiddling his thumbs doing jack all when he could've taken Den without you being able to do shit about it.

I contend that you should've died by 1906

I told you they wouldn't do it. I told you I was playing for a G/R from the start; and I got it.

Only a lesser player would've died, not one of my dashing looks and calibre.

Hellenic supported me into Sweden forming our alliance early. As long as I helped Germany defeat France, I made him a solo threat and kept Austria and Turkey from ganging up on me. About half way through, Germany was the only one who hadn't drawn and my reasoning (because a solo was out of the question at this point) was that he wanted to get it down to a 4 or 3 way draw instead of leaving England in the game. He pulled all of his forces back and went to eliminate England so I assumed that if I build a fleet in Sevastople and moved on Turkey, Austria would take Spain and Tunis from him while maintaing our strong advantage over Germany in the center. Unfortunately, Austria somehow mistook my action against Turkey to get a three way draw as a solo attempt (no idea how when Austria and Germany were both way stronger than me) and drew almost all of his forces eastward towards me while protecting Turkey. This screwed everything up and led to Germany's eventual win (although I think we could have definitely still held him off if Austria didn't miss two of his moves and keep attacking me instead of trying to prevent the German solo).

The start really frustrated me too because I ceded the Black Sea to Turkey in a clear sign of friendship to go after Austria (Italy was even attacking him making it easier) and he ended up kicking me out of Rumania. How could he have possibly gained more by allying with Austria in that situation than with me? With Germany helping me in the north and us both hitting Austria in the rear while he battled with Italy, we would have had an easy juggernaut going across the map.

Spring 1911, that's where it was obvious Germany was stopping his solo attempt and just trying to lower the amount of players that got in on the draw. Turkey should have been stopped from expanding that fall.

Even as late as Autumn 1917 we definitely had the upper hand against Germany and a strong stalemate line going, but Austria made a bunch of awkward retreats allowing Germany to expand further and kept attacking me. That's enough end game analysis for now though.

Hello,
I'm new here, never played Diplomacy, doesn't have anyone to play it with IRL so I was wondering if anyone could help me understand the game better or maybe if there's other newcomers, we can create a new game so we all discover how it works together..

How do you randomly select nations in a Face-2-Face game?
I just got an actual Diplomacy board game and am about to play my first Face-2-Face. What are the most common methods for randomly selecting nations? Draw out of a hat? Youngest picks first? Best Franz Ferdinand impression gets Austria?
