Coding Boot Camps

Looking for a Modern Diplomacy Analysis.

I have never played the variant before but I have been looking at some archived games of it on webdiplomacy recently. I was hoping that people would be willing to share any thoughts on it they have. I would love a country by country analysis.

The Leagues Results!

Hi all. So with half of the Leagues completed, I thought now was as good a time as ever to update everyone with the standings and some new rules that will be in place next season.

So, first off lets go with the rules (because everyone is totally checking this thread out just for that, right?).

Starting next season, players will no longer be able to play a country more than once in a League. We had several cases this season where a bunch of neighbors each received the same country twice in a row. The Leagues already have the potential downside of becoming stale playing the same players, so this should hopefully keep things fresh.

I will also be forcing games to start on time next time around, on 4 week intervals. This means that multiple League games will be going on at once, but tough cookies.

NMR policy in the future will be like that outlined in the Masters thread. No WFO, no forced pauses. Once the NMR occurs, the player will be docked points, the game paused and we either find a sub or carry on.

With the amount of meta in this tournament, I’m going to refrain from instituting the CD GR penalty for now. Subs already have an advantage coming into the tournament by being appealing allies to existing players.

Now, onto results:

The winner of League A1, with 15

and 42 SCs is chluke! Advancing with him to the next Premier League is Caballo Blanco and TheReinvented. Mscott will remain in the A Leagues, but acornist, rdrivera2005 and Wusti are set to be relegated to the B Leagues.

The winner of League A2, with 12.4

and 33 SCs is Hellenic Riot! Advancing with him to the next Premier League is zscheck and Imhotep, who beat out Valis by a narrow margin. Dyager_nh, VashtaNeurotic and KingCyrus will be relegated to the B Leagues.

The winner of League B1, with 20.4

and 46 SCs is dyager_nh! Advancing with him to the A Leagues is Wusti. This advancement takes priority over their relegations from the A Leagues, due to the fact that they both were subs in the A Leagues.

You should all also check out the other Leagues remaining.

The Premier League (gameID=161304) – ckroberts is clinging to a narrow lead in the standings for first place. Can he hold?

League B2 (gameID=161308) – stefanodangello has clinched a trip to the A Leagues, but who will get the top seed? It’s a fight that’s looking to be a photo finish.

League B3 (gameID=161310) – Having already clinched a spot in the Premier League, Caballo Blanco has nothing to lose here. Can he make history and go for a third solo in the Leagues? Hamilton Brian has clinched a move to the A Leagues, but can canaduh join him?

Also can you stop advertising it as having "meta"? These are the rules:

"Meta-Gaming and Cross Gaming:

Players may not enter into agreements or alliances spanning more than one game, although they may consider different players’ league positions in their decision making within a game."

...which is true for all tournaments. Obviously all tournaments do not allow cross-game alliances, and, correct me if this is wrong, all tournaments allow standing to be taken into consideration, cause I'm pretty sure that GR, points, and tournament standing are all allowed reasons to propose an alliance. Are people not allowed to consider tournament standings in ODC, Masters, etc?

Heck, hypothetical: that the Leagues is the only one where players are allowed to take standings into place (>.>), that's a far cry from being a tournament that boasts "with the amount of meta in this tournament"

Those are anon, Valis. And you're competing against people who are not in your game. Leagues are non-anon and you're *only* competing against those in your game. I would think you'd notice the difference there.

Good to see the leagues going strong!

Some of my best memories of playing webdip were in the leagues, though we had a two-week schedule to keep up, so you usially had three games going on at a time ( i think this also helped stop things becoming stale...)

Fantasy Football

Requesting a Sub for an Empire Game as Heartland

How do you randomly select nations in a Face-2-Face game?

I just got an actual Diplomacy board game and am about to play my first Face-2-Face. What are the most common methods for randomly selecting nations? Draw out of a hat? Youngest picks first? Best Franz Ferdinand impression gets Austria?

Live game with the Goose

Hi all, Sort of good and bad news, in the hospital overnight with the pregnant wife, baby isn't even close to due date but I've been here for the last 3 days.
