I'm fucked otherwise...I'd love to learn another language (Spanish would be the most practical, but I'd much, much rather learn Italian, that'd be my first choice, given the fact I love Italian operas so much, and it'd be great to read Dante in his original language) but can't find the time.

What about a different attempt on this, in which we all agree to use a language NONE of us speak, so we *have* to use a translation tool to communicate? I think that would be loads of chaotic fun.

I propose Greek, then 2WL could play.

(Because otherwise, in the original proposal, if a native Italian speaker who also speaks fluent French, say, happens to draw Italy, he'd be at a huge advantage)

I do think it would be fun if each player had to use Google Translate for the country's language they are playing -- and perhaps England has to use Gaelic or something.

So is this playing a variant of Dip communicating in just these seven languages? If so I think Public would be more fun as everyone can see the badly translated conversation.

With regards to translate - you must only translate words NOT sentences. You must then piece the words together yourself

I'd just like to say - what a great game so far

I've always wanted to try a google translate interpretation game. The message has to be translated through 5 different languages, the 2nd of which has to be the language of your country (Gaellic for England and Hungarian for Austria), and the final language has to be in the language of your opponents country. A minimum of two of the other languages cannot use the European alphabet (increase the chances of a fuck-up by google.)

Google often slightly misinterprets messages, which when fed though multiple languages will cause said misinterpretations to magnify.

For example:
I propose an alliance and will be supporting you into Tyrolia.

Got turned into Italian (via German, Arabic, Spanish, Russian and French):
Offrendo Union e sostenuta dal Tirolo.

Which according to google translate means:
Offering Union and supported by the Tyrol.

These misinterpretations may add an extra layer of fun to a diplomacy game.
