What is lamer than people who join but don't move?
I am new to this web based forum, but holy cow is there anything than people who don't move? I mean for crying out loud, you have 12 hours! to figure out what to do and, nope, can't be bothered! Yeah, it kind of wrecks the game for everyone else when the neighbor of the lamehead grows too strong too fast, but whatevs.
And joining a live game minutes before then simply doing limp? WTF?

At least from my searching for them on the pages with the most likes to their name...leaving aside the J.K. Rowlings, Stephenie Meyers, And Stephen Kings--Shakespeare (surprise!) ranks 1st with 6.8 million, Maya Angelou (surprise...?) is 2nd with over 4 million, Gabriel Garcia Marquez is 3rd with over 3 million, Fyodor Dostoyevsky ranks 4th with 1 million, and Jane "Life Begins at Man and Gossipy Bickering" has 900K. ...Thoughts on what that says about our popular choice in classic authors?
Cool. Do top players regularly play among themselves or just join "random" games? I've been hoping to "up" the level of competition in my games lately.
shield, in case of gunboats I suggest you to join higher pot games, that usually comes together with better players. Around 200-300 bet size you will probably find a decent game.
According to your profile, you barely play games above 100 bet size at all. So maybe the problem is not with top players, right? How do you expect any top player to join games with so low pot? At least in gunboats for sure.
yeah, keep trying, it is worth it. you can always invite people, even those you don't know. Get their names from the GR list. Also I suggest to advertise it on the forum, like you'd like to create a GR top 50-100 game then you will have your league I suppose and you'll have the chance to move higher both on GR and in points.
@shield, yes, top players often setup games amongst themselves. Someone will post wanting to setup a top 200 GR game which means anyone in the top 200 could join. Often there will be a couple of games setup. These are often full press WTA classic games with 24-48 hour phases, but if you like gunboat, you can try and setup one of those too.
There are also tournaments where you usually play some pretty decent quality folk. It is a real pain being the tournament director so there can be lulls between tournaments too. I'm not sure what tournaments are currently active.
Anlari (GB rating 38), Shield (GB rating 104), I am running a GB tourney you should join the next round of... it will posted on the forum... also, regularly post higher stake GB games, too, though you should have no trouble filling out a card if you post one (I am maxed out right now)
Wow... my GB rating jumped up even though I have felt thoroughly schooled in the first round of the GB tourney... I thought I was pretty good, but I have been consistently out played so far... guess squeaking out a few draws against top guys helps quite a bit...
@Shield: I play a mix of selective games and random, but always anonymous. I've found the level of play in random press games to be very low: I've soloed both the ones I've played in the last 6 months, mostly off of very basic mistakes from the other players.
Anon, 50 point buy-in, 2 day phases. This group has played several games with each other, but we need someone to fill in one spot. Post here if you're interested. This is a pretty good group, so the games have been pretty challenging (we haven't seen a solo yet). As long as you don't have any CDs, I'll PM the password to the first interested player.
The game was paused for the xmas break, but one of the players never came back to unpause. We're probably going to get a mod to unpause so we can continue - does anyone want the German position? It's not great, but also not over yet.
