Bad luck on the world map...
Which countries is it unluckiest to be landed with playing gunboat on the World Diplomacy XI map? Surely some are especially awkward to deal with. I'm looking at you, Australia...

It seems that we have many experts on here, but I'd like to find out what we don't know. Post your topics to see if we can find something we all know nothing about. I'll start.

Officials from Chris Christie's office have reportedly been linked to lane closures earlier in September as a measure of political retribution against the mayor of Fort Lee, NJ.

What is lamer than people who join but don't move?
I am new to this web based forum, but holy cow is there anything than people who don't move? I mean for crying out loud, you have 12 hours! to figure out what to do and, nope, can't be bothered! Yeah, it kind of wrecks the game for everyone else when the neighbor of the lamehead grows too strong too fast, but whatevs.

And joining a live game minutes before then simply doing limp? WTF?

The People's Choice--Facebook's Top 5 Great Authors...by Likes--Thoughts?
At least from my searching for them on the pages with the most likes to their name...leaving aside the J.K. Rowlings, Stephenie Meyers, And Stephen Kings--Shakespeare (surprise!) ranks 1st with 6.8 million, Maya Angelou (surprise...?) is 2nd with over 4 million, Gabriel Garcia Marquez is 3rd with over 3 million, Fyodor Dostoyevsky ranks 4th with 1 million, and Jane "Life Begins at Man and Gossipy Bickering" has 900K. ...Thoughts on what that says about our popular choice in classic authors?

Player needed
gameID=132903

Anon, 50 point buy-in, 2 day phases. This group has played several games with each other, but we need someone to fill in one spot. Post here if you're interested. This is a pretty good group, so the games have been pretty challenging (we haven't seen a solo yet). As long as you don't have any CDs, I'll PM the password to the first interested player.

Scheduled live games
I was thinking about we could create scheduled live games, like monday 9PM CET, or weekdays 6PM ET, and so on.
rokakoma (19138 D)

The goal is to make people, and ourselves, get used to certain times, when we can expect a live game actually be up and running, instead of trying to create them every 10 minutes, so we could join them far earlier.

The solution would be to name these games the same way, like
'Scheduled live GB/FP WTA/PPSC 6PM ET'.

Then, anyone, who knows he/she wants to play a live game later, can create the game hours, or even days, ahead. Once people are used to show up on these specific times, or at least to expect a live game on every evening, we might have more running games.

Of course I cannot pronounce strong enough, that mods, please adopt Reliability Rating, auto-disbands please!!!! They are essential for having good live games.

Opinions?
I would be happy to play most Sundays beginning in February.

I created one for tomorrow, but all I want is to create a tradition, so we will know we will find a game at specific time.

I'm planning to create the games in advance, and when a few players have joined, I leave the game, so I don't have to be there all the time to play, but the games will be there regularly.

Hopefully, later, others will follow the 'tradition'.
Sounds good man. Of course, I may hold off joining until I know I will be able to play tomorrow.

Chances are I will b sitting at home without power though :-( The terriest of forecasts is upon us atm.

It doesn't matter if the game is not starting at all. I just want regular and scheduled games every day, to get used to them.

I encourage everyone, to choose a day/time fitting his availability every week, and create games for that time, when he/she wants to play. Hopefully every day/time pairs will have their 'owner' in a couple of weeks.

The first scheduled game just finished, everyone showed up, sadly there was an NMR at the 1st phase, but the player entered his autumn orders later.

I hope creating live games like this will be a great and working tradition!

thx Draug, I appreciate your words ;)

Yeah, I'm definitely interested. I'm not available too much for live games, but if I knew there was a schedule, I could make some time.
rokakoma (19138 D)
23 Dec 13 UTC
whenever you want, I prefer everyone to create one when he'd like to play, and hopefully people will show up.

I created one for Sunday 7PM CET, and I'm planning on to create them for every sunday evening, as it fits for me the best. But that doesn't mean I won't create other games occasionally as well, probably 24 hours earlier (to make a proper scheduling).

If people get used to certain times/days I hope it will be a self-sustaining tradition. Also bet sizes, therfore quality, can also be raised with games like this. As today's was a 707 D pot size game, which is generally not easy to put together in 30 minutes. Now, it was up and running for the first attempt.

Excellent idea! I think this could greatly improve the quality of live games if players coordinate time slots ahead of time.

As a suggestion, I would recommend also adding UTC time in parenthesis after whatever local time is listed, when advertising such games.
For example: "Sunday 8pm CET (7pm UTC)" or "Tuesday 2am JST (Monday 1700 UTC)"

This might help clarify things, since some might not be familiar with the various timezones from around the world. Of course, it's all a bit redundant if a game link is provided, but it at least speeds up comprehension without having to visit the game page to figure out what time it starts.

This game is going to need a new Germany
The game was paused for the xmas break, but one of the players never came back to unpause. We're probably going to get a mod to unpause so we can continue - does anyone want the German position? It's not great, but also not over yet.
