why not an even 50? that makes it decent in size, but not too much, and its easily afforded by all those who are going to play.

for those who suggest 36 hour games, i must say 24 hours seems very slow especially when you have retreat/build phases.... i'd prefer 24 at most. Am still ready to jump in...

@ orathaic - some of us have careers that don't involve sitting in front of a computer. in my case, 24 hour phases would either leave me with incomplete diplomacy (not being able to reply or get replies before phases ended), or nmr-ing.

@trip: i imagine that 20 minutes before work, 20 minutes at lunch, and 20 minutes after work would be enough to send and reply to a few messages. (and i understand sometimes things take more time to consider, but those are the exception rather than the rule)

I can't join the game for some reason. Is the password cap sensitive or does it have the inverted commas or what?

'game 5' is the password... I got confused at first, too, centurian...

@ orathaic. my comment before may have come out a bit terse. i didn't intend it to be that way.

i just think its easier, and makes more sense, for players who like short phases to bend a little bit for those who need longer phase lengths than the other way around.

i don't have a lunch break :(

@trip, i'm fairly sure where i live lunch break are a legal requirement(for people working a long enough day) and i appreciate why you may need a longer phase, though i do prefer to keep the momentum going in a game and not be stuck for, say two 48 hour phases (retreat and build) where i've got nothing to do, or no thinking/diplomacy at least....

72hr phase games where someone is on the way to cd during those two phases is even worse ;)

I do agree with trip that 24 hrs is just not enough for a serious game of diplomacy - specially w/ most people having careers and lives outside of Dip :)

one great option would be if the site disallowed any message posting during retreat/build phases (which is an actually Diplomacy rule) OR if it forced you to put in a build somehow if you logged into the game - thought that's harder to impose through code.
