As an American, i'm more or less required to support Lance Armstrong, but can't bring myself to do it, he is the cause of those damned tacky rubber bracelets that assaulted all of our eyes a few years ago.

yes. but even though he did bring them to "popularity" he is not the person who decided to make a bracelet for everything. he is also not the person that single-handedly produced the demand that allowed the companies that jumped on the rubber bracelet band wagon to.

Even though it originated with him, his idea is one of a noble cause(for those of you who are ignorant: cancer is the reason he started the bracelets) and you cannot blame him for capitalist tendencies.

I don't think Armstrong can do it.
Whilst he does seem to be in good enough shape (although its been hard to see without any decent mountains) I'm not sure the team will let him. Contador is a more aggressive rider, and if he's in a breakaway Armstrong will surely be told to sit back and be defensive to keep the other GC contenders away.
I heard someone saying they felt this was one of the strongest fields in years, and the more I think about it the less I agree. We have 3 top-class GC contenders, but they're all in the same team! We have a couple of good sprinters, but on this years showing without Robbie McEwan its only a couple (Hushold and Cavendish). Of these, one has a team built to assist and the other takes more of an individual role, so they haven't competed that much either.
