Looking for a decent game (RR96%)
I'm looking to join a game with players that will actually play. I haven't played for a couple of years and was quickly reminded why I stopped when in Autumn 01 3 people failed to submit orders in my first game back. My RR is 96% (I'm still ashamed it's not 100% - I CD'ed once before RR was visible and didn't know it would negatively affect my stats). I prefer to play classic. Other than that, I'm not too bothered on rules or phase length. Also, I love players that "ready" often.

Throwing a game
What is everybody's opinion on players throwing a game? There's a debate going on in a game of mine whether it's a form of metagaming or a valid strategy, or just unsportsmanlike, and I'd be curious to see how everyone feels about it.

But its glad to have a lot of fresh faces here. Its good so that these games don't become too over-laden with meta.

Speaking of meta though, I see this is page four. We're usually onto something semi-substantial by now. Typically, by now, some newbie has said something stupid and there's already a bunch of votes on them for it. I'm actually fairly happy this isn't the case this time around. Too often a new player ends up swinging on day one just because they're a new player. Perhaps we can actually have a useful D1 lynch this time around and lynch a veteran.

BRAINSERVATION: What would be useful this time around by lynching a veteran? Who are the veterans? He says no names, proceeds to tunnel me exclusively and try to catch me in logic loopholes that don’t exist at all. Tries to claim im using species logic to catch godfather. Says im making things up. Says im falsely identifying the veterans vs newbs but he himself never clarifies who any of them are. Nor does he actually make the first step to do what he is suggesting.

Wow, D1 and its been 45 minutes since I posted, with no response.

Where is everyone?! Where are our usual questioners and instigators?

@brainbomb, I feel like I was preaching to the choir since you're the only one who was actually trying to get discussion moving in a productive area. There's lots of people who've yet to make a serious vote. The majority, actually. Also, your one vote on civwarbuff doesn't equal a bunch of votes, so my point still stands.

As for civwarbuff's comment, you have to ask yourself this
1) Is civwarbuff just an awkward person?
2) Would a new mafia player (he is new, right? I haven't played with him for sure) assume that they have to immediately steer questioning away from their buddies?

The answers to those two questions will lead you to a conclusion. If you're leaning to a yes on #2, my hunch would be moreso on he balduran and snowy interaction. Personally, I lean towards a yes on #1, since that's the case probably 80% of the time.

BRAINSERVATION: the first part of your post applies to you too bitch. You haven’t voted.

"brainbomb, what are you smoking. Most of those players have played multiple games already. If there's anyone being irrational here, it's you.

Rdrivera, I said I wouldn't lynch them, not that I wouldn't pressure them. Why are you ignoring part of my statement? "

Hey guys, nice to see we've got our first walls from Brainbomb against one specific guy.

Start time (2300 for me) is inconvenient, so I hadn't the opportunity to post. I'll get my thoughts together when I get home. Any questions?
Balduran (119 D)

Err, newbie question here, is it important to drop votes during discussion?
I was avoiding it because I didn't quite understand what it means if I just throw a vote at someone.
"BRAINSERVATION: What would be useful this time around by lynching a veteran? Who are the veterans? He says no names, proceeds to tunnel me exclusively and try to catch me in logic loopholes that don’t exist at all. Tries to claim im using species logic to catch godfather. Says im making things up. Brainbomb, you're really not helping yourself there. I mentioned exactly who I considered the newbs to be. I also really don't appreciate you insulting the other players. I wasn't tunneling you, we were the only ones online and we were having a conversation. And you are making things up because I don't believe I mentioned godfather at all.

And finally, I achieved exactly what I wanted. We are having a semi-productive conversation, and have drawn out Moscow, Jamiet and Bo. And of course, yourself. You're acting quite slimy this game so far, bb.

Also, I hadn't made a vote until now because nobody had done anything I merited I worth a vote.

COME HERE AND FUCKING FACE ME YOU COWARD. TALK TO ME AND I DARE YOU TO TRY TO WIGGLE OUT OF THIS.
I'm sorry, bb, the use of logic and reasoning doesn't really come off as defending me.

In fact, pretty much every player who has mentioned the matter appears to have come in more on my side than yours. Your reasoning is terrible. I never brought up godfather. You mentioned it first, and I responded. I said it was specious logic because imo the whole thought of trying to find the godfather using your method is ludicrous.

It's not omgus if you're giving me genuine reasons to find you scummy. You overreacted to a statement of mine, have continued to overreact to my line of questioning, have broken down to insulting other players and cursing at me.

You're a hot mess, brainbomb. This is not who I'm used to playing with.

Brainbomb, once you calm down, can you tell me if these two statements are different.

"You are using specious logic to find the godfather"

"You say you're doing this to find the godfather? That's specious logic"

The top one is what you accused me of doing. The bottom is what I did. I am not lying.
The top says "brainbomb, you are using poor logic to find the godfather"

The bottom says "brainbomb, you are not being truthful about your actions"

@Balduran I'm not sure how it's usually done around here, bu early votes in the middle of inconclusive discussion is a) used to apply pressure on a scumread with the hopes that they'll slip or b) bad play. In brainbomb's case, I'd definitely lean towards the latter as he's voted for 5 people so far, and it doesn't really apply any pressure to a player when you let them know "oh, all I have to do is ride this out and he'll switch his vote to the next person who catches his eyes." I will mention that the kind of play you're doing right now where you ask mechanical or strategical questions without ever going into what you think about the current discussions or your reads on people you have a feel for is usually strongly indicative of scum behavior.

@brainbomb, I'm inclined to agree with nearly everything goldie has said so far in your little duel. His statements have been consistent while you yourself have, in fact, been a hot mess, and the only reason I'm not personally accusing you of PR hunting is because I think your interpretation of Balduran is wrong, as previously mentioned. But as I said it would be a piss poor move to lynch either of you day 1, and it's curious to me how you've glossed over this (what I believe to be extremely important) point in favor of mindlessly devolving to vitriol.

Your plays have not been logical this entire game. You've focused on the first and least scummy comment of a player whose response has instantly placed him on my scumdar, rather than the response itself. You hammered civwarbuff (premature, but reasonable imo), unhammered and switched to Balduran on the basis that he's probably not PR, and are now on the most talkative player aside from you and I with unintelligible frothing. Considering how much advice you attempted to dispense to me before the game started, I have a hard time buying that you're actually this bad. And if it turns out that you really are town who suspects goldie of being mafia, all you're doing right now is alienating voters from that bandwagon.

That being said, I must emphasize once again what a terrible idea it would be to vote between you two. We must vote for the lurkers and quiet people, draw them out to conversation and judge between their statements. Otherwise we will enter a stage later in the game where there exist no prior information and no reads on the players, which is decidedly bad for town.

civwarbuff is the obvious lynch, but I'm hesitating on the basis that it's a bit too obvious since I'm operating on the basis that everyone here is at least competent. For this reason I express my mild scum read on Floodgates.

@Brainbomb I just don't get this constant flying into a rage concerted against one person. It a) doesn't convince anyone of your point and b) makes it look like you're tunneling.

Who are people going to believe, the guy who looks like they're being persecuted or the over-reactive guy who is unnaturally fixated upon him. I just want to know why you're pursuing him in a way that blatantly undermines your position.
This is my first substantial post of the day.

@snowy801
"For this reason I express my mild scum read on Floodgates."
Please elaborate, the structure of that sentence implies that you're scumreading Floodgates because you assume people are competent? How are those two ideas related?
Also @snowy, thanks for the tip, and I'll try to avoid that, but I figured asking was worth the risk rather than being conspicuously without a vote, if that was an issue.
Vash, would you care to explain your reasoning for that?

Brain - I won't be able to listen to that for several hours.

##Call GM - are audio recordings such as that allowed? Because I rather don't like that I'm allowing brainbomb to spew off whatever he likes without the ability for me to respond until I'm off work
Balduran (119 D)

@drivera Has your position on goldfinger changed at all, given his clarifications and his conversation with brainbomb? If not, is there anything but "this stupid 'will not vote newbies' thing" that makes you think goldfinger is scum?
snowy801 (591 D)
07 Feb 17 UTC
I will add that I wasn't defending goldie in my penultimate post, and was simply mentioning how it's bad to lynch him out of policy. But now I suppose I am defending him, since I think what he's said makes sense and what you've said doesn't.

What you were doing with Balduran could definitively be interpreted as PR hunting, and his definition of newbies was not as murky and comprehensive as you're making out to be.

I will add to the sum of your inconsistencies inexplicably clearing Rivera, which still makes 0 sense to me. It's not like he's shared any great insight so far either, and gave chaqa an excuse to "joke vote" him which further muddies the field.
snowy801 (591 D)
07 Feb 17 UTC
For reason stated above, I believe it is not a good idea to lynch civwarbuff, in which case my next best guess is Floodgates.
Durga (3609 D)
07 Feb 17 UTC
##GM Note: They are allowed.
snowy801 (591 D)
07 Feb 17 UTC
Of course, this can all change depending on civwarbuff's response, or lack thereof.
@snowy and @balduran - Just because I said I won't vote for you today doesn't mean I'm not noticing your behavior. Just be aware of that

##Call GM - does that not constitute conducting arguments/conversation/press off-site? I thought that all discussion was meant to stay in-thread. I *don't* like being disadvantaged artificially.
5. All in-game communications should be kept within the thread.
snowy801 (591 D)
07 Feb 17 UTC
I have no concerns regarding my behavior. I'd be interested in hearing why you felt the need to mention it, if you'd like to share.
Durga (3609 D)
07 Feb 17 UTC
##GM Note: That is a fair point. There was a time quite a few games ago where HR used voice clips. But I suppose brain is using this more seriously. Brain, if these posts are meant to be substantive please post them here - otherwise they will be deemed out of the scope of this game.
