One tomato does seem a bit of an insulting offer though. We have no monthly consumption of tomatoes yet, so we can afford to be generous this month. We're getting 3000: I propose we donate 1000 to the Separatists and 2000 to the loyalists. If the separatists don't come over, we won't be spending any more food resources on them anyway. And whilst they can get their own wheat/meat, they can't get their own fruit as we brought all the seeds here.


Regarding wood production: we have a stockpile that would last us over 4 months. Lowering supply a little is fine, and perhaps Councillor Prado can look at possibly transferring a few workers away from wood to something we are more in need of.

Magistrate, do we have any ability presently to communicate with the separatist elders or do we need to establish a communication channel?

Councillor Baz: Let us give them this one final olive branch to end it peacefully. If they reject it, we can go with your plan next month. The more workers we have the better, and we can't predict how they would react to your plan. Further violence costs our production quotas in future.

I'm fine with that. I would prefer peace but I'd like us to formally ratify my proposal in the event that the final peace negotiation fails.

I agree with Maher. Hellenic, your word is about as valuable as my comedy is funny. (which apparently isn't alot) I am in favor of ratifying the proposal. I think we should consider failure as any situation in which the separatists are still violently assaulting our holdings or a situation in which at least half of the separatists haven't sworn loyalty to the crown.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:
I again propose that we offer the separatists a single ration for every 10 pearls they deliver us. That would earn us some production out of them, while limiting their own ability to produce on their own.

I agree that we should offer one last chance of clemency. With the assurance that refusal of that clemency would lead to destruction.

I also agree that those who refuse should be dealt with severely, not to exclude assassination or execution, preferably the latter.

I also agree with offering separatists food for defecting, though why they would do this and not join is beyond me.

@KC- They may have family still in the separatist movement who wish not to leave. Imagine if you are a mother who must feed your children. Your husband wishes to stay in order to fight alongside his father and brother. Well during the day you and the kids go looking for pearls and turn those pearls in for a few rations of food to be added to your meal. In desperation people are odd.

I don't think that's feasible, Maher. As the royal guard said, we can maintain guard of the main buildings, but the huts are too spread out over such a wide area that it isn't possible to maintain guard on all of them.

We wouldn;t be able to control them. The population isn't armed, and we have no shackles, cages, etc. Also, I am against slavery, as is the King. He doesn't forbid it, but expressed a desire that we did not pertain to it.

Ok look I'm being a little ridiculous on this. I think the loyalists just have to live with the economic realities of the day. I think they would be pacified if they saw we cleaned up the civil disturbance mess. That might inspire some confidence that we will be able to give them the promised goods.

Have some of the Loyal Elders go out and make speeches about the problem of scarcity.

I wouldn't feel safe asking the Loyal Elders to show their faces in the separatists' residences.

The Loyal Elders can't just hide behind our walls and manage to cultivate any respect among fence sitters, either.

@ Bo - I actually think that was the only bad suggestion I offered. I think my ideas are a lot more viable and realistic than "Let's insult these folks by offering them gold and pretending that they're going to betray their people and their culture for our dirty money."

Give this peace offering a chance, and see how many separatists we can woo over with it. We can choose which method of ruthless persecution of remaining separatists we want next month.
