The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.

Happy Easter everyone
On this auspicious day I would like to share with the community my belief that the resurrection of Jesus was figurative, and not literal. The "risen" Jesus is the one that won the greatest person in history tournament. Respectfully, that's what I believe. He is risen, risen indeed.

I uploaded SunZi's "Little Dipper" Android application to Aptoide
Our very own SunZi (userID=19506) once created a useful Android app Diplomacy adjudicator based on webDiplomacy code. SunZi publically published this adjudicator app ("Little Dipper") on GetJar, where it is still free to download.

For the sake of archiving SunZi's work, which our comrade gave the bare minimum of advertising (threadID=879472 & threadID=882356), I uploaded the app to Aptoide.

What do you do when you're playing with an asshole that has the chance to draw, but refuses to do so when it is obvious that another player is going to get a solo? He's so annoying it hurts I really don't know what to do I mean it's obvious that if we continue the game will be a solo for another guy. He simply REFUSES TO DRAW

But this needs to be handled carefully. I would say that the law should be amended then, so as not to explicitly prohibit entrance to the fields, but perhaps put a toll in place? This way, we could collect more wheat and fish, but without using our workers. The separatists would be, in effect, working for us. In order to use the fields, they have to give us 10% or so of their crop. How about it?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
30 Mar 15 UTC
I am happy with that.

Magistrate, were you expecting me to write a letter for the separatists? I can, but I believe it should wait until next month. It would be better if we had some time to arrange it as a group.
KingCyrus (511 D)
30 Mar 15 UTC
Bo, happy with what?

And yes, I think one of your primary goals should be to woo the separatists back.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
30 Mar 15 UTC
Happy with the toll surrounding the fields. Personally, I think we should repeal the law that prohibits separatists from entering our buildings and just add a toll for all of them. We can say that we are trying to ensure their health and happiness by providing them access to all of the commodities on the island while also taking their coin. It seems like a win-win.
KingCyrus (511 D)

I agree. It is a win-win. But they don't have any gold.. It will have to be resources.

The Magistrate informs the Council there is little time remaining and still some proposed policies that need to be decided on.

Tasks:
Offer prisoners clemency in exchange for fealty
Assign 4 Pearl harvesters to wheat
Have the Mason build a small jail
Have 3 Pear Havesters farm Wheat
Use rancid chicken for fishing
Deliver letter from Councilor bo to Separatist Elders. (BELAYED)

Policies
Allow Separatists to enter all buildings but take a 10% tax of relevant resources (PROPOSED)
Allow Loyal Elders to handle punishments including prison of up to 1 year (PROPOSED)
Make it illegal for colonists not loyal to the King to approach buildings marked with a banner (ENACTED)
Lower the age of the workforce to 12 (ENACTED)
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
30 Mar 15 UTC
True, KC. Let's belay that and have the full month to decide instead of rushing that through.

I am happy to let the loyal elders decide on prison sentences.

Is this pear or pearl? If it's pearl, we already have 4 transferring to wheat.

I would also like to propose that the mason work toward building a small school facility. If the missionary wants more resources, we are effectively compelled as education is one of our most obvious motives in this venture. We made that clear simply by bringing him along. Let's help him out so he can be more useful and let's try to educate loyalists that want it first.

Wait, has the mason finished the jail? He needs to finish that before we can have him start the school.

30 Mar 15 UTC
Mason: I will prioritize the jail over the school

Magistrate: I will enact the will of the Council
KingCyrus (511 D)
30 Mar 15 UTC
Mason, can I get an estimation on how soon the jail and the school will be finished? Can I also get an estimation on how quickly you could construct a guard house at the docks? And how might assigning workers to you speed up your proceeds?

Prado, how is the labor situation? Are we making any surpluses?
TrPrado (461 D)
30 Mar 15 UTC
We'll have a pearl surplus, but we can only spare one more worker since I had a number of other pearl harvesters moved to wheat. It would be that we could spare 2, except that I want to get a head start on our next quota.
TrPrado (461 D)
30 Mar 15 UTC
Wait, Magistrate, just realized there was supposed to be a total of 7 pearl harvesters to wheat, not 4.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
30 Mar 15 UTC
Oh, so those two separate tasks should have been combined. Make it 7 then.

@Tr ... assuming that we attract a few more separatists and don't lose as many defectors, will the mason be able to gather a little bit of a workforce? We have a lot of construction in mind and we could use his help. Honestly, I think agriculture takes a back seat to construction for the coming month, but let's leave things as is for this one.
KingCyrus (511 D)
30 Mar 15 UTC
I agree with bo. Any labor we can spare should be put on construction.
TrPrado (461 D)
30 Mar 15 UTC
I would like to wait and see if we have solid numbers to work with first, given how deep we're cutting into our wheat supply.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
30 Mar 15 UTC
How bad are we? We can bring in more on the next ship.
TrPrado (461 D)
30 Mar 15 UTC
Our supply in the granary will drop by nearly half.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Magistrate: I have enacted the Council's tasks. The current state of the town can be found in the Scroll.

Magistrate: 13 of the 14 prisoners have sworn fealty and have been released.

Mason: I have finished the Palisade and am beginning construction of a Jail.

Alchemist: I have discovered Preservation; meat and fruit will no longer spoil.

Captain of the Guard: Councilors! The starving Separatists are uprising! They have stormed the Palisade trying to reach the granary. We have held them back without casualties on our side. 29 Separatists were killed.

Lt of the Guard: Councilors! The Separatists have stormed the docks! We have held them back without casualties to the Guard, but 1 Loyalist has died. 3 Separatists were killed.

Lt of the Guard: Councilors! The Separatists have accosted Loyalists in the Woods! We have ended the fight but one Guard has fallen along side 2 Loyalists. 16 Separatists were killed.

Lt of the Guard: Councilors! The Separatists have accosted Loyalists in the Woods! We have ended the fight without casualties to the Guard, but 1 Loyalist has died. 2 Separatists have been killed.

Captain of the Guard: What are your orders, Councilors?

Missionary: May god have mercy on us.

Magistrate: Councilors, the trade ship has arrived. Below are the items the vessel has for sale and is looking to buy:

For sale:

20 Rifles: 1 Gold ea
Salted Beef: 1 Gold per 1000
Journeyman Carpenter: 10 Gold / month
Templar: 20 Gold / month + Old Faith
20 Casks of Ale: 25 Gold ea
20 Bolts of Fine Cloth: 50 Gold ea
5 Crates of Tobacco: 25 Gold ea
Newly-trained Physician: 15 Gold / month

Looking to buy:
Pearls: 10 Gold ea
Wheat: 1 Gold per 200
Iron: 1 Gold per 50
Fruit: 1 Gold per 200

Magistrate: The Steward to the King sends his regards and has instructed the Merchant to give a bonus of 2500 Gold if you meet your quota of 1000 D.

Magistrate: Councilor Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz has arrived on the island.

There was a separatist uprising and no separatists came our way?
KingCyrus (511 D)
31 Mar 15 UTC
Hold on now, why were the separatists starving? I was under the impression that they were making a subsistence living. I thought we were just skimming off the top.

Bo, you have a heck of a project to take care of now. We need them back ASAP. Meanwhile, we HAVE to protect our Royal Guards and our loyalists. I will take care of that.
KingCyrus (511 D)
31 Mar 15 UTC
Prado, can we spare any workers to train as militia men?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
31 Mar 15 UTC
Hardly, KC. I can't turn around an uprising with a letter. We have to beat them.
KingCyrus (511 D)
31 Mar 15 UTC
Welcome Councilor Maher!

Rifles might be in order, if we are to train a militia. I also think the physician and the carpenter are a must. What exactly is the Templar? We should consider trading goods as well, to help our working with the Loyalists and Separatists.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
31 Mar 15 UTC
Magistrate: The Council restricted access to the docks and the granary. As the Farmer mentioned, this severely restricted their ability to produce food. This was exacerbated by the Guard taking food from the Separatists last month.
KingCyrus (511 D)
31 Mar 15 UTC
Bo, are you suggesting war? I think we need to keep an open dialogue while we hold out two hands. One with food, the other a sword. They can choose to die by our guns or starvation, or join us. But you, and the rest of us, must make sure as many join us as possible.

Convoying Question - the roundabout
Let us suppose someone has an army in Yorkshire and a fleet in North Sea. However, the army is beset by enemies in London and Liverpool.
Our army in Yorkshire is going to be pushed out. If we assume the attack will come from London supported by Liverpool... could our army in Yorkshire, convoy through the fleet in North Sea and land again at the newly vacated London?
